I’m only going to have a peek down the rabbit hole…I’m not going in…really…really!?

This obviously has early origins and is a very minimal kit. I never had one as a child, so I didn’t know any better when I bought it.?  But I got a bunch of kits for less than $3 each so…? Anyways, I want to build a stock-looking ‘32 to display next to my other modified ones. I figured this would be a good candidate? I’m only doing minor fixes, a good cleanup and some lipstick… One thing that needs a bit of correction is the stance. I drilled new wheel locations just above the stock ones and added styrene stubs to the wheels. As always, all comments welcome.

Filled the slots in the backing plates

And added a 5/16” disc of .010” styrene as a pattern for trimming the kit part.

Right side has the backing plate trimmed. Just so it isn’t too obvious after paint.?

It’s minor, but I think it looks a bit better.

And I spent a ridiculous amount of time whittling down the spokes on the wheels, and cleaned up the steering wheel a bit.

And painted them with Tamiya TS-7 racing white. The tires I sand blasted lightly to get rid of the sheen.

I think you went over your minimal fixes limit just on those wheels? Looks like a nice start, interested on seeing where it goes.

Gonna look good. New stance is nice. And trimming those spokes looks good.

Tidy work there Greg, I have a couple of original issue kits in the stash, I’ll watch along and see what other tricks you have up your sleeve.

Thank You all Fellas! building this kit as a kid would have been relatively easy…but as a critical thinking adult, it’s a bit frustrating. The trick is not to get carried away.?

Sorry folks, I am trying…but this is just not acceptable.? So I scribed a recess on the body and made some new glass from a clear container I fished out of the recycling bin.

WOW! You are a great modeler!

I love how you make kit parts into better parts, that's awesome.

This will be a fine AMT built, better than AMT could've imagined!

(there's no such person as AMT, but I hope you know what I mean)

AMT I believe is either a benevolent or malevolent entity…I’m not quite sure which…depends upon the kit I guess??

It's a little late now, but those cars really stood up on tippy-toe in reality, and the wheels are 18" rather than the kit's 15-inchers.

image.png.b03079f19bdf812108877eb3ca379850.png  So, ummmm...so much for "stock".

The other major problem with ALL the AMT '32 body shells is the height at the cowl.

Here's how you fix it.   image.png.bdd237871cdafc1e74a1aebc3c8bb6dd.png     image.png.c3acf758f13b65943c2b3d6ae3a52e98.png

Great work on fitting new "glass", which is a much needed improvement.

Also, I love the black & green color combo. Looking sharp!

Thanks for the tips Bill.? I really don’t want to get that involved with correcting this thing. Like I said, I’m not going down the rabbit hole….just a few easy fixes.?

Edit: This kit is close enough for me, but is there a more accurate or more detailed kit that can be built completely stock?

Thanks DJ.? Yeah the glass thickness and fit is REAL bad, but relatively easily fixed too.?

Not, That I am aware of, but others may know more.

Tim Boyd, or Dennis Doty are much better at Kits History than I am.

Nope.

You could take one of the well-proportioned Revell kits and swap in the best of the available interior and undercarriage guts, and mashup a correct engine from all the flathead bits out there, but that's your only option.

The lack of availability of a correct stock '32 Ford anything has been a long time gripe in the model car community.

One of the most important, most iconic cars of the '30s, or among hot-rods, and no good stock kit.

Oh well. Everyone who gives a rat's rump will be pushin' up pansies in not too long anyway, right?

Yeah that sucks.? It’s even difficult to research a stock build. Type in “original” or “stock” and you get a whole whack of custom stuff.? The Ford Barn Forum is the best source I’ve come across for technical information.

Got the interior finished. Pretty simple, I didn’t even bother adding any door handles or window cranks.?

I had to whittle down the tabs on the spare tire holder that fit into the slots on the frame horns and bend the mount a touch to get it to sit closer to the deck lid. I needed to do that, and also trimmed the  rim flush with the inside of the tire to provide clearance for the bumper. Pretty much just the bumper mounting left now.?
