Wasn't the flat box version only the custom?

You might be right, Andy. I do believe I held the box in my hand at my LHS a few years back. Pretty sure I saw an illustration of a stock Monza on the side. Found this pic just now of what I think is the box bottom. Looks like custom and stock wheels, multiple fascias, etc. are included. Hope this helps, thanks!

No it was just an "Art Car" boxing with the big "painting" of the box art.  But just like the original 1975 kit it has both the stock & custom parts.

Now I am bummed.... I found it at a LHS on clearance and passed because I thought it was custom only.....

Oh yes, a lot of us keep mentioning the MPC Monza; that makes me happy that I'm not the only one! I do hope it can return.

IIRC, the yellow "Pro Street" version was the last one, dated 1984. I butchered it and "Hot Streak" back in the day, heh.

The AMT Monza came out a few years ago in a flat box, I believe. I missed that one; was holding out for the MPC version. Let's hope!

Due to the graphics IMHO the '79 spider version would be neat.

What was the last mpc anual, the '80? And if there is, what's the difference between the '79 and '80?

With the MPC kits, probably no difference between '79 and '80.  Not much, if any, difference in the actual car.

Since '80 was the end of the line for them, being replaced with the Caviliers for the '82 model year, as far as I can see the only differences that would apply to a 1/25 scale model would be the decals and front air dam. Even the interior is the same.

Collectible Auto on X: "#Chevrolet's #Monza entered its last year for 1980. The 2+2 hatchback was still available with sporty Spyder trim, with one advertisement describing the #Spyder as a “corner-clawing, buck-saving,

Probably not, as all of the mpc kits and promos have the '75-only 2+2 dash that has a gauge cluster shaped more like a '70-78 Camaro. I assume the only difference would be the year stamped into the rear license plate. Even the 1:1 '80 models were mostly leftover '79s if I'm not mistaken. (or maybe I'm thinking of '80s being sold in '81 until the Cavalier came out for the '82 model year) it's readily available, but I refuse to look it up! To test how badly my memory had faded! :D

That said, the mpc Monzas are more accurate overall than the amt version...in terms of the body, at least.

I bought a '76 promo earlier this year because they're still fairly cheap. and I figured although they might reissue it sometime in the future, it would most likely be an '80 if they do it at all.

The 78-80 front fascia looks good, but I like the 75-77 one more, personally.

I wish round 2 would bring back the Monza and even a Pinto or Chevette. They had nothing that I had any interest in since the 60 Ford truck…

Round 2 has managed to put out 3 different versions of the AMT Pinto coupe, so that one has been well covered.  However, the MPC "Pony Express" Pinto Wagon seemed to have a short run, so I think they could do well by putting that one out again.

The AMT Pinto leaves a lot to be desired as far as details/proportions, so if they could manage to reissue some version of the MPC Pinto coupes, I think those could do well too.  Seems to be a lot of interest for some type of pro stock reissue of the MPC Pinto, but it sounds like that might require at least a retooled body similar to the Vega pro stocks (I'm basing this on discussions from others on this board that are more knowledgeable than me on that subject).

They did reissue the AMT Monza, but that also was not as proportionally accurate as the MPC version.  And I think there is just more nostalgia for all the various MPC Monzas.

I also fully agree on the MPC Chevette.  There is a certain amount of nostalgia for the Chevettes, since so many people either had one, or had friends/family with them.  But I think the real interest would be in all the crazy V8 swap possibilities.
