What a cool car!!!!! This hits me right in the nostalgia. I miss PHR, R&C and CC. Online mags are just not the same. But yes, Project X was one of the coolest long term, long running builds a magazine ever did. 2
Bullybeef Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 So many variations to choose from, you can’t go wrong. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 I'm with you. Being a '70s and '80s kid, it was a GREAT time for a young fella to work at a Phillips 66 station! These cars were sill being driven! The owner of the station had a few '63 Impalas. SS hardtop, and a convertible as well as a 9 passenger wagon. Good times! 2
Vettegasser Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Loved that 57. I’ll be watching this for sure 2
Radretireddad Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Great idea! Unless it’s the electric version.? 2

While I've seen some electric conversions that were cool from a performance standpoint, this car is hot rod royalty, and they jumped on a bandwagon when they did that. 2 1

gtx6970 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 The ULTIMATE version that car has to be as it appeared in Hollywood Knights. With Michelle Pheiffer in the seats .. Oh yeah 5

You mean kind of like they've done with every iteration of this car? Every time they've rebuild this car, they've done what is trendy in the world of performance. The various drivetrains, the suspensions, the wheel choices. All reflect what was going on at the time of the build. 1

When I seen that, it was as if they cut up elvis's cadillac, or burned the two lane blacktop car if it even still exist. I'm intrigued with the performance capabilities/ potential of e.v.'s, just think sometimes certain things should be left alone. 1 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 Here's the preliminary mock up. In the Tradition of our Beloved X, here's a Blown Hemi sitting in the engine compartment. It's not glued in place, so keep your pants on. I wanted to get a feel for a '60s Blown Fueler Vibe. Can't you just see Baskervilke wringing his hands in Excitement looking at this????? I used one of the '66 Nova chassis to put those wide wheels in the rear. Still PLENTY of carving and gluing to do.... 5

When I was growing up in suburban Houston in the sixties, the neighborhood gearhead guy bought a ratty ‘57 Chevy 210 2-door sedan roller. He dropped in a 327 vette engine, painted the outside white and the gutted interior yellow. He left off all the external bright work including the grill and front bumper, welded in a length of cast iron pipe in place of the rear bumper and mounted a pair of cheater slicks in back. That car eternally imprinted on me what a ‘57 Chevy should be. Especially after he gave me a ride in it. For anyone who hasn’t already seen it, my Spirit of ‘57 gasser build was inspired by the memory of that car. Edited October 11, 2024 by Radretireddad 1 1
gtx6970 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) Best part , is there isnt a man or women alive thats a die hard gear head that isnt familiar with that car . Regardless of said persons brand loyalty. But oh what a view to behold. So in reality, just about ANY version of the car is ok with me, Except an EV version Edited October 12, 2024 by gtx6970 1

EV or not, others can still find a way to screw one up.
Zippi Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Nice kit for the stash. Anything Tri-Five looks good anyway you spin it.
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 I've got the upper control arms mounting figured out. Hacked the frame and lengthened it 1/8" to get the front wheels more centered in the wheel wells. The back seat fitted with the tubs as well. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 The more I look at that Blown 392 the more I like it! 1
NOBLNG Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Nice! I had a PHR subscription back in the 70’s and I looked forward to every issue.? 2
