Why ?   Has Shapeways stopped trading ?

Yes, they have been gone for few months now.  We had a thread about it.

I've been hoping for some kind of news on where all those people are selling their goods now. Relied on Shapeways for figures and other items for many years.

I applaud Shapeways demise, I mourn for the many good casters they ruined. Their website was awful, it was NOT oriented at all to model cars, it was nearly impossible to use. They didn't even list 1/25th in their scale search parameters.

i was, and am a fan of Mapleaf Modelworks that sold through Shapeways, I have heard from the owner, nothing new has transpired. They are out of business. The vendor supplied the files, Shapeways did the actual printing. These guys sent a rather expensive order to a vacant lot, insisting it was my address despite EIGHT email attempts to correct the situation. The said tough luck. They used any old delivery service, including ( in my view) several incompetent ones. Lost several orders too. Again, tough luck. Really bad customer service. There are reasons they went under. I'm sure I'm not the only guy they screwed over. I am really hoping Mapleleaf products return! A decent printing service for al these guys who can't devote full time to design, printing and sales Shapeways was NOT that service.

Does anyone have info on where to find the vendors that previously sold on Shapeways?

Yes I was wondering too

Was hoping to order some parts from Basement Resin

There was a nice set of  replacement 3D printed wheels that was on Shapeways website for the Heller Bugatti T51 kit.

If anyone knows knows of the original designer I would be interested to know.

The vendors only supplied the files, the printing and selling and mailing were by Shapeways. The vendors , for the most part either cannot or will not have the time for both things. That was the whole idea. Shapeways ruined it. I KNOW the reused to fix the site, they did NOT care about individual vendors or customer service. The took the majority of every sale.

What do think the reason they went under might be?

Not sure who designed those. Someone in Japan has a set for sale at a very steep price. I've pasted a link and photos from that evilbay listing below. Alternatively, sometime next year there may be a far better alternative from Jack Modelling. It's a future project on Jason's to-do list. 😃 It should be something similar to what was offered through Shapeways in the past, but at a much more realistic price.

Thanks for that feed back Tim.

I was rather hoping that the originator of the Bugatti wheels files might be a user of this forum to establish contact with.

That EBay offering is a tad steep money wise, so will give it a miss !

One of the 3D file suppliers who sold through Shapeways was listed as TDR. mentioned often in this forum. my net search doesn't show a web site for them. They had a wide variety of products in multiple scales.

TDR is no more.  This was on their FB group.

Just got this in my E-mail what you all think ?

Shapeways is Coming Home

Dear Doug,

I am delighted to announce that Shapeways is coming home.

Two original co-founders along with the highly-skilled leadership team from our Eindhoven factory have stepped in to steward the company into its next chapter. After Shapeways Inc. filed for bankruptcy in July, we knew we had to resurrect the company and preserve the digital manufacturing engine we all helped to build - a combination of dedicated, skilled people, cutting-edge machinery and sophisticated software. Moving forward, our focus is on rebuilding Shapeways and leveraging our digital manufacturing engine for our customers’ success.

We regret to inform you that our marketplace cannot be revived as it previously existed, as all marketplace accounts and accompanying data were deleted in the bankruptcy. We still believe in the Shapeways Shops concept and are actively pursuing new ways to replace this service for the Shapeways community. This exploration will take time and we ask for your patience on this journey. We hope to find a solution that allows you to access a similarly eclectic array of unique objects as you came to expect from the Shapeways marketplace. Stay tuned for details.

If you are a creator yourself you can upload and order your models here - we’d love to have you back.

In the meantime, you can learn more about the new Shapeways in our press release, here. We have compiled a FAQ around the bankruptcy and loss of the marketplace here. And you can learn a bit more about me, the new leadership team, and our vision for Shapeways here.

Warmly,

I'm hoping Chris Drysdale (Mapleleaf Modelworks)'s line of vintage Hot Rod accessories will return to the "reincarnated" Shapeways - The quality and attention to detail of his products were above and beyond most other aftermarket sources...
