STU111 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 I’ve been doing a little work on the Olds lately and made some progress. After doing some research on the 71 442 W30, I’ve become a bit of a fan of this muscle car. This new found respect, coupled with my botched attempt at painting it first up, made me determined to do the Olds justice.Body fully polished out and bmf around the window trim. I used a chrome Gundam marker with the beveled tip for the wheel arch trim.My first try at flocking powder for carpet. I’m happy with it for a first attempt. My attempt at detail painting the kit wheels was less than perfect in my opinion, so I’m running with these chrome magnum style. My research has shown that Oldsmobile offered this type of wheel as an option for the 1971 year, so it’s still a factory style build.A bit of an overview of things. Have a pro tech pre wired distributor for the engine as well. Slow progress as l have 4 other builds on the go at the moment. Thanks for looking. Cheers , Stuart.👍🏻 5
WillyBilly Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Great build. I love that you were able to get it back on track after a setback.
catpack68 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Looking good so far! I am currently working on a Revell 71 442 myself. I used the wheels from the Lindberg/AMT 67 442 instead of the factory Olds Rallys that come in the kit. I wanted something different.Looking forward to seeing more progress on your 442.

I'm building the same kit in coincidentally the same color as a Demolition Man Cutlass and I just have to say, WOW! I hope mine looks 1/10th as good as yours 1

I hope mine looks 1/10th as good as yours Hey Tom, it’s a nicely detailed kit and l’m enjoying it ( apart from my first attempt at painting the body! ). Hope to see your build on the forum in the future. 👍🏻
STU111 Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Got the interior together, I’m not too sure about the decal seatbelts, they’ll look ok when it’s all finished and inside the body, but they wouldn’t look any good if it was a convertible. I’m pretty happy with how it all looks though. Cheers, Stuart.👍🏻 1
STU111 Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 On the home stretch now, only drama was the rear window needed to be trimmed slightly to fit. This is a really nice kit. I added a prewired distributor, but even without that, the engine bay would look great straight out of the box. I’ll put some pics in the under glass section when it’s done. Thanks for looking. 👍🏻 4 1
Zippi Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Looking good there Stuart. Killer paint job and the interior looks really clean. 1
dino246gt Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Looks excellent! Gorgeous interior, but seat belt decals are a bit of a let down. Still a great looking hardtop! 1

Agreed regarding the seatbelt decals. In hindsight I wish I hadn’t used them but as the interior is black they aren’t super noticeable. The euro boxings of the Revell kits usually feature them. 1
STU111 Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 Putting the headlights in today and made the unfortunate discovery that the bumper mounted lights ( part number 186 ) had one of the lenses short shot. Rummaging through the parts box and had nothing close, so l mixed up some X22 gloss clear with a touch of gloss white and dropped it into each light opening. Came out okay. 6

May i ask which foil type you used and if the ”new improved chrome” where you have found it?

Thanks! I’m still learning how to use it but I’m happy with this result, better than some of my earlier efforts. Yes, it is the new improved chrome. I purchased it online from BNA models in Melbourne, ( I’m in Australia ) that was around 12 months ago, so unsure if they currently have it in stock. Hope you can track some down, it burnished down and cut very nicely.

The chrome foil seems to be out of stock everywhere in Europe so I ordered directly from Bare Metal US, unfortunately the postage cost was as much as the product (three sheets) itself!
STU111 Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 And, finished. Will post up some pictures in under glass soon. Thanks everyone for looking in. 👍🏻 1
