Beautiful work so far Mark!👍

Thanks Greg, I hope you will see it done!

I like you quote “Before I joined this forum, I thought #600 was darn fine sandpaper”

I could have said that myself!

The interior is done! Some of the added details are the metal guards on the door latch, seat belts, hand brake, metal turn signal lever MCG wheel, fire extinguisher, ignition key.

One thing I put some work into was the Wintersteen only fuel pump panel in the center. Those are metal bezels and a gauge decal.

Thanks for looking, I appreciate any comments.

Moving along very nicely!  are you gonna scribe the rest of the A-pillar seams? and did you use solder for the plug wires?

Thank you.

Yes, .015” solder was used, it scales out to 3/8” or 9mm, closer to scale. The brown paint needs a bit of touchup.

The plan for the A pillar is to add bits of plastic to hold the windscreen and side windows in place. If goes as planned, it will represent the interior moldings.

Got past the most difficult (as yet) part of the build, the wind screen. Made some inside moldings from plastic stock so the windscreen has a nest.

Right now, it’s white plastic. I have some 0.015” clear, but would like to find some 0.010”.

Took some pics of the mock-up, things will fit tighter as it goes along.

Added breathers and hoses to the engine. Also the intake on the carb with some screen.  It still needs some hose clamps and springs.

It’s slow, but I tend to work on a couple of project at the same time.

Hi Mark and everyone, I'm building the Corvette grand Sport by Accurate Miniatures (not easy), I really love what you did and I'm following the build. I downloaded (from Scalemates) the manual from Revell re-boxing, much clearer than the A.M. one... I have a question, you mentioned Historic Racing Miniatures, is Harold still in business ? I doubt it but, if yes, how do you order and is there a list of his products available ? Thank you.

Yves, glad to hear you’re building an AM Corvette, not too many builds around.

When I started my roadster project, I tried to get a transkit from Harold. No luck, so I converted an AM kit.

It turned out well though, as nice as Harold’s resin kit is, there are details not included.

Making the mods on the plastic kit is a lot easier than in resin.

The kit really isn’t as difficult as you would think. This is my second build and I’ve learned a lot.

Feel free to ask if you have a questions, just ask.

You can still create a post concerning Harold, someone might know. I do know there no web side, just private communication.

This chassis is for my next GS build, but it shows the MCG set more clearly.

The roadster in this WIP is done the same.

Just thought it might help another builder.

Mark, You got the P.E. from model round-up, it looks nice and makes a big difference on the chassis. On my next one I will remove the saddle under the lower pulley (that has nothing to do there as a starter) and correct everything else to lower the engine. I'm also planning to use 1/16 eyelets for the trumpets (see photo attached, I put 2 of them on the fire-wall, it's about the needed size.). I also often use " Beadalon"crimp tubes (for jewelry) on my models as my engines tubing "connectors", way cheaper than modeling detail parts (From Joann craft stores and or Michaels, plenty of useful stuff in there). I just got your message, it took a long time (with the front) but I did everything to have a straight chassis and it's all good. The last thing I wanted was a car on 3 wheels. I will also try to find better tires, if not, it's alright, the next one will be better.

One thing that surprise me is that you painted the chassis before gluing all the direction, A-arms and suspension (missing in the kit, by the way) stuff, it's not going to complicate the gluing of these things ?

It’s finally white!

Next is to let it cure for a week, then add the blue stripe, some clear and polish.

Man, that's looking cool!

Thanks Trevor. It’s cleared now, two weeks cure and then decals. I can’t wait to put the red stripes on.

Amazing, who needs a transkit right?

Thanks Pierre, you compliment means a lot. The nice thing about using the AM kit is that I added some details that the transkit omitted, with the work being a lot easier in plastic. Plus, the interior and chassis fit with no alteration, is was part of the kit!

A few photos to show the progress. Really nice to have it setting on it’s wheels.

A lot to do yet though, side pipes, engine detail, lenses for the lights and a front spoiler.

Hi Mark, It looks beautiful, congratulations. Did you use the decals from VRM ? I'm making the chassis #4 car #3 Sebring. I was really disappointed with the decals, very stiff, ignoring microset, I had to use Solvaset to get a reaction, still they don't conform well to the slightest curve, it says "printed by Cartograph" and I have a doubt to be honest, kind of ruins months of work... Good continuation.

Hello Yves, I agree with all you said about VRM decals, the stripes were a bear, very brittle and some sponsor decals were way oversize. I even had to “glue” some down in places with Future. The one good thing is that they were very opaque.

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Having built a couple of these kits I know they are hard to get right and somewhat finicky to say the least. You have even added more detail to a great subject matter and a fine looking model.

Thanks Rooster,

For sure, the second one of these gets easier, my first was a bear.

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate them.

Keep watching, I still have some details to add to this one.

The AM kit left alone is certainly not for beginners but transforming it like you did, well that's next level for sure. I still have one of these kits and would love to do the Penske/Sunoco roadster but realistically I can't get remotely close to what you have achieved. Epic build no less!

To be honest Pierre, I’ve seen your work, I’d say go for it. You’d do a great job.

The Sunoco roadster is a beautiful car! I doubt if I’ll do another roadster, but I see a Penske blue coupe down the road.

Love the GS cars. I have worn out the pages on the hard bound book I have. I was really disappointed with the AM kits. I practically had to scratch build the interior to fit with the chassis and align with the body.
