Bainford Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 (edited) Digging through my tire stash looking for the right tires for my current project, I came across this set of Pirelli P7 ( sized 225/50VR15) which will do the job nicely. I have no idea what kit they are from, probably not something I have built, maybe something from Monogram. They will work for a couple other projects I have in mind too, and if I can identify the kit(s) origin, I can hunt for another set. MPC wheel, which fits slightly loose, is just to illustrate size. Not a large tire. Edited November 28, 2024 by Bainford
Straightliner59 Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 They look familiar, but I can't recall what they're from. Monogram seems a good bet.
Straightliner59 Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 (edited) I found 'em! They're in Monogram's Porsche Carrera RSR. It's one of those real basic kits. No engine. Rudimentary underside detail and an interior tub and body. I have one, and have actually built one, as well, but I replaced the running gear. It's hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago. I got thinking about it after getting up this morning, and recalled Monogram having a Datsun 240z kit back in the day, so I checked it out online and it has the same tires. So that's two options to look out for. Edited November 28, 2024 by Bainford 1

Can-Con Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 The most common kits with those tires are the Monogram Lambo Countachs. I love those tires for street rods and compact cars like VW Rabbits. 1 1
Bainford Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 (edited) Cheers, Steve. I have just discovered them, and yes, great for smaller cars. In addition to size, they have nice tread and sidewall detail, and evoke the look of a proper Pirelli. They are still a little large for my Lotus Europa project, but very much closer to an acceptable size than the kit tires. I have been having a hard time finding size-appropriate tires for smaller or vintage cars. Almost everything out there in the aftermarket is at least 17", which just won't work when you need 13" or 14" wheels/tires for a vintage sports car. Edited November 28, 2024 by Bainford 1
Bill Eh? Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Trevor, I know that some of the Fujimi wheel/tire sets came with Pirelli P7 Cinturato tires. They are old enough that they probably came in the 14" range you are looking for.
peteski Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Back when they were still around, American SATCO sold a wide range of rubber tires which were used by various Japanese kit manufacturers. They had Pirellis, but none in scale 14" size. Here is a listing of their tires. They show up on eBay from time to time. 1
