Just starting a build of my buddy Norm's mid/late 70s GMC stepside pickup that he had when we were in our late teens in the late '80s. I have these two models to use the GMC grill with the stepside bed of the Chevy, but I just realized that they are both 4WD and my buddy's was 2WD. I looked through ebay for 15 or 20 minutes and haven't seen a sure thing for a Revell model of that era GM truck with the IFS of the 2WD. Does one exist that will be "plug and play"? I do enjoy scratchbuilding stuff, but if one will "bolt right in" it would make sense to do that.

Also working on Revell's '83 Hurst Olds which was our other buddy Wayne's car at the time which was (and still is) like new as it was only about 6 years old which was 10-15 years newer than most of us had at the time LOL. The '71 Skylark in the background was mine which I recreated from Monogram's GSX. The '76 Firebird was Norm's also and was pretty mint. 400 4BBL 4SPD. What a blast.

Anyway I digress, any help on a 2WD IFS would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there was ever a 2WD version of those 1/24 scale (ex-Monogram) pickup or Blazer/Jimmy kits.

My plan for one of these is to use he front suspension piece for a Monogram 64 GTO or 70 GSX. You could even add a set of spare upper A arms from something. Its not 100% correct but will look pretty factory and since it's one piece it should be easy to get to sit level.

Get the front suspension from a 1/24 Chevy van. Most, if not all the parts on the 1/1 are identical. The lower A-arms even have the same part #.

I'd just cut the frame off behind the suspension and graft it onto the pickup frame. That would even give you the crossmember. The all you'd have to do is slightly trim the crossmember where the engine sits so it would sit in the center, not slightly off side like in the van.

BTW, even though the old Revell custom only vans say 1/25 on the box, they're actually closer to [or actually are] 1/24.

Great info, thank you guys! I appreciate the help. Going shopping... and checking out the parts pile. I have nothing to do this weekend but work on models and plow snow. I love it when that happens!

That one (the blue van) started out as a Monogram kit with no engine detail.  Revell later made extensive changes to it.

The Revell van I have says 1/24 on the box. This is the front suspension from it:

I take it that's a version of this van, Sean. It's Monogram and dates back to the mid '70s even though it has Revell on the box.

I was referring to these ones when I said Revell. Note it says 1/25 on the box and always has. It's also from the mid '70s.

Yes it's that exact issue. I was just showing an option I knew of that I have. I wanted to compare the custom ones with mine but never got any as I prefer to be able to build stock.

Yes, they always were a nice kit. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't been reissued in quite a while.

The NASCAR chassis is completely fabricated on anything 1981 and after, plus some back to the mid-Seventies.  One could be used as the basis of a street machine chassis, but it's nowhere near to stock for anything.
