Claude Thibodeau Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Hi! The famous Boyd Coddington built a series of remarquable phantom hi-tech rods in the early 80's for customers such as Vern Luce, Larry Murray, Don Smith and others. It made great impression on me. Then lately, Roy Brizio grabbed an AMBR with a semi-traditionnal Ford 32 Phaeton. The gods of styrene were talking to me in my sleep! So... Take an AMT 32 4-door Ford phaeton (which comes already sectionned!), transform it into a 2 door, create longer hood & side panels, a roof mixing the kit's front and a Cord 810 rear sections, scratchbuilt a custom frame and floorpan with inboard front suspension & dropped axle, a reverse-opening hood, shorter grille & shell, 351 Cleveland V8, Dodge Sidewinder IRS and rolling stock, Jag XK-120 seats, scratchbuilt door panels, pedals, windshield, mirrors, scratchbuilt gas tank, intake, electronic ignition, headers, exhaust, wiring & hoses, brakes, etc. 59 Caddy tail lights. Krylon almond gloss coat, with crusty rust weathering + Testor's dull coat lacquer. custom AK Lacquer mix interior. Revell's (spray) and Molotow's chrome accents. Remember: "all that shines is not gold, all that rusts is not rotten"... Hours of fun with styrene. CT 15
espo Posted March 18 Posted March 18 The rusted finish on the body looks great, but the interior details are what really caught my eye. The engine and chassis are both well done as well. The tread pattern on the tires is cool looking. Thank you for mentioning all the different parts used as it does give a formula for someone to follow.
Muncie Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Excellent! So many well done, cool details - needs just a touch of salt on the tires and an SCTA crew sticker on the windshield because we all know where this one is going!
karbuildr Posted March 18 Posted March 18 What a great concept, and very well executed. The longer I look, the more cool stuff I see. Outstanding.

Rattlecan Dan Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Off the wall! Great enginuity. The rust effect really bends the mind a little. Nice work. Good Luck at the shows.
BK9300 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Another very well executed build! I need to study your engineering on the hood opening mechanism!
STU111 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 One might think the rusty, crusty finish is at odds with the plush interior and superbly polished engine and drive line components. But it all works for a really eye catching look. Top stuff. 👍🏻
alan barton Posted March 19 Posted March 19 The contrast between hi-end and crusty finishes really works! Cheers Alan

At first I aimed at a flame paint job, to match the tires... but since i had not done a distressed finish in a while, I went that route. CT 1

I was short on salt at this time of the year, but you are right: I WOULD like to drive that thing on the salt! LOL CT
Stef Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Another phenom reimagining of a classic, Claude! Your super clean builds are inimitable and always instantly recognizable, even without the green valve stems, ha ha! You are a true designer at heart, and one of the few who focus on the full package! Fantastic work.

ea0863 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Another beauty Claude! This one really shows off your weathering skills. Thank you for sharing!
Spex84 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Fun execution of a very cool concept! Everything fits together so nicely... Do you ever build cars that haven't been stretched? Build a shorty, I dare ya!!
Koellefornia Kid Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Very sharp looking rod and very well executed! Really like it!

Thanks Brian! Over the years, I've developped a few variations on this type of reverse-opening hood hinges. It allows to show the engine bay completely, without having to lay the hood along the car. More credible, IMHO. I try to make them in such a way that upon final assembly, minimal work is required to mount the hood. CT
