Been getting warmer by the day here. Monday was 49, yesterday 64 and today is 66. It did rain some last night.

Humid! Up to 96%... yesterday was a sticky 80 by 2 pm.

Rain coming tonight, so I have to re-tarp some of my roof.

What used to be a piece of cake 10 years back is now kinda scary, much as I hate to admit it, and my excessive caution is really dragging the job out.

Ach well. Somebody's got to do it.   

EDIT: And now it's raining, when the forecast said zero chance of rain until 2AM tomorrow.

The rain that wasn't supposed to be here until early tomorrow stopped for a while while I went to get more tarps for the roof, but no sooner was I back up there, it started again.

S'okay though, 'cause the battery in the screwgun went dead just as I got the corners staked on the last one, so while it was charging I cleaned the gutter in the imaginary rain.

Soooooo...I'm pretty well soaked with liquid sunshine, fixin' to get back up there in a few as soon as the current downpour eases up and the battery is charged.

Gots to nail down the edges of the tarps before the wall of rain that's coming on radar but wasn't supposed to be here until tomorrow morning gets here.

Kinda miffed, 'cause everything up there was pretty dry, and I'd intended to do a very thorough job of tarping TODAY to get me through the winter.

No dice.

Well, looks like a weak cold front went through overnight, but we didn't get much rain...and just enough in the afternoon to play jello with my roof tarping project.

Today's forecast is 80% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, but looking at the NWS live radar and temps, it looks like another weak cold front will indeed be moving through (it's over Memphis right now) but precip where it is now is just light sprinklege.

So here's Bill's forecast: because I don't see a lot of potential for atmospheric heating this afternoon, I'm forecasting no thunderstorms, but maybe some localized light to moderate rain.

It's only 75F now here, and afternoon t-storms are usually the result of PM heat buildup plus high humidity, assuming they're not driven by a front moving through.

The humidity's there right now...90%...and there's a weak cold front on the way...so we'll just have to wait and see if I can get it as wrong as a bunch of computer models being interpreted by highly trained meteorologists did yesterday..

Yesterday was 70 when I got up, today 65 and cloudy. We got a little rain overnight. It feels less humid today.

There are 2 storm fronts that may be heading our way next week.

The mornings are cold in the low 40's then low 70's by late afternoon. Fall is here but I'm still wearing shorts. Gonna have to bring out the long pants soon.

61 and sunny. Yesterday topped off at 82, hard to believe that September is almost over. 

I'm watching some storms that are tracking north. I may have to batten things down next week.

Yesterday (Saturday) was an awesome weather watching day.   But not for Globe which is south of me, I saw flash bulbs going off from a distance, they got bad flash flooding.  The Snow Bowl ski area on the San Francisco Peaks has some snow.  I love driving in "bad weather" sometimes (miss skiing), gives a much different perspective than sitting in one place.  I was also somewhat aimless, the justification was gathering rocks for the yard.  So jump in and ride along....

First stop was the Bosa Donuts early cruise, the sun ray breaking the clouds...

Not many showed up.

Next stop Cars & Coffee.

Got bored with that, put on grubbies and started on a back road.  Looks like it's not raining to the right....

Not so fast, about 20 miles down the highway it was pouring.

First stop is down to the right, the crossing of the Agua Fria which showed signs of flooding, and got to see a mini flash flood.

Drove south to the old junction of Cordes, basically a junkyard.

This stretch of road was slickier than snail snot.

Stopped at the old bridge over the same river.  Sunset Point rest area is on the ridge.

The Bumble Bee exit was super dooper slicker..... sure was fun though.

I headed north on I-17, past Sunset Point and turned into the Agua Fria National Monument, every arroyo showed signs of good rain.

Some water to cross.

Returned to the Superslab, then turned onto Orme Road, a "shortcut" to another road.

That road was slick on some stretches too.  Looks like my alignment is way off.

Sure helped to have weight for traction, and the posi differential worked great.  I got about an inch of rain this weekend, slowly and not at once.  Washed about 200 pounds of mud off.

Tonight it's 55ºF, phone shows -18º below normal.  82% humidity.  Too muddy to do rockwork.

Seen several independent forecasts saying AZ is going to get the remnants of a hurricane by the weekend.  You can see the grass is green, delayed by a couple months the normal monsoon pattern.  Yesterday it was calm enough to launch rockets.... off to that thread. 😁

51 this morning, high will be 61. The past 2 weeks have been 75 to 80 late in the day.

Last night was the 1st I have had all the windows closed in months. Inside temp was 66, the heat kicks on at 61.

Sunday and Monday we set records for daytime highs of 86 average is 63. woke up this morning to 35  forecasted hi is 54

Shaping up to be really nice fall weather for the long weekend and into next week, lows in the 50s, highs in the upper 70s, and clear, low humiddidditty.

It's sunny and quiet here in the Boston area now but a Nor'easter is heading this way with heavy rains and gutsy winds for Sunday and into parts of Monday. I was going to drive a lady friend to New Hampshire tomorrow for some outdoor flea marketing in NH but that's out of the question.

So much for our half dozen weeks of nice warm weather... beautiful sunny morning and 65 until about two, then the cool stuff moved in

 

and it's adios to the warmth for a while. Kind of a strange pattern but it's that time of year when anything can happen and we're used to the 'wait five minutes, it'll change'.

Yesterday I measured two storms, 0.4" each time, then before dusk another 0.1"+- (0.9"), then last night it rained 1.5"! 😳  No thunder, just a nice rain.

The Saturday morning cruise was dead, just the Task Force Chevy was there.  Some low fog in the valley.

It's very green now, much like when I travelled through Montana and Wyoming.

Took a backroad in the afternoon.  No rain at all today (after I got on the road this morning), but everywhere got some last night.  Hard to tell, Flagstaff is under the storm cloud.

Too nice to sit around. 😁

Southern Arizona has been getting hammered with flash floods, and record amounts.  Been seeing highways that are being undercut, having to be closed.  But up here it's been gentle long rains, got 1.5" overnight and didn't notice (no thunder).  Today I wanted to see Fall color in Williams and/or Flagstaff.  This pond is the headwaters of the Verde River, it's usually completely dry.  We have some catching up, the soil has soaked up runoff, not topped out.  No rain during the day, the rumble strips on the highway had water. 

I was on 89 going north to Ash Fork, but when I saw semis parked on I-40, and some parked at the interchange, plus a huge increase in traffic going south, knew it was closed.  Turned around, took a side trip to get away from the slow train.  This is an old alignment that is still being used.  This is my Fall color picture.

I found a cool rock.  The dirt road was wet but not muddy, great for traction. 😏  This is a cinder pit for when the new highway was built, last century.
