Sonorandog Posted April 3 Posted April 3 This was a super fun quick simple build. This is a great kit! Simple enough to be quick and easy but just enough details to be fun. There were a few minor fit issues but overall a fun little kit. I just finished two quick builds they both started as a color selection and then found the kits that best fit the color. I wanted a shades of beige build. I envisioned a 70's economy car. This 70's Subaru in the stash fit perfectly. I built it with the rear seats bolted in, therefore it was classified as a car(70's import tariff avoidance trick). The exterior is a light tan and the interior is a slightly darker shade. The exterior was gloss coated and the bed area was not, which gave it a yet another shade of beige different than the exterior even though they are the same color. 17
happy grumpy Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Great looking Subaru. First time I see one built. Good choice of color.
VanGoGo Posted April 4 Posted April 4 looks good...those were alot of fun back in the good old days ~
ea0863 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 NIce build on such a fun little vehicle. It put a smile on my face just looking at the pics. Thanks for sharing
ncbuckeye67 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Nicely done! I was really excited to see this kit on the store shelf. I always thought they were pretty cool.
Sonorandog Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 Thanks everyone for the kind words. I can't say enough what a fun little kit this. I would encourage anybody to pick one up. In my research on these I was surprised to learn that the Brat was sold in the US all the way through 87. I had no idea they stuck around that long.
Spottedlaurel Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Nice one! 9 hours ago, Sonorandog said: Thanks everyone for the kind words. I can't say enough what a fun little kit this. I have one in the stash, look forward to building it someday. We got the truck version of the updated model with sloping front end well into the 1990s, they were popular with farmers and often seen fitted with a GRP or aluminium top to the bed.
espo Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Great looking paint finish and body trim. All of these that I recall from that time period seemed to all be painted this exact shade of beige as well as this trim. Cleanly detailed engine.
WillyBilly Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Great build. I did the same thing based on a car my neighbor had when I was a kid. His wife had a matching wagon.
pulln4dejr Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Very cool unique build! My buddy had one back in the day… great memories!
Mark C. Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Great build! I have been getting into some of the Japanese cars that I remember from the 1970s lately, even though I never paid much attention to them back in the day. In retrospect they are looking kinda cool these days. I can recall seeing these kits on the shelf many times but can’t remember when it was last issued. Any ideas anybody?
XYHARRY Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Very tidy build there Steve, and your Camaro looks nice too. Well done on both.
Sonorandog Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Thanks for the support. I too have a new found interest in the "average cars" from the 70's and 80's. I don't know when this came out but I have had it in my stash for probably four or five years.
