James2 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 The most annoying thing in this hobby is the inability for some people to keep their opinions to themselves. Unsolicited input on a public venue is one of the worst. Me personally, I find the amount of rudeness by fellow builders is astonishing. All of the small nuisances that come from kit manufacture can be overcome, but the unkindness of people may cause some to depart the hobby. IMO 4 1

Ace-Garageguy Posted April 16 Posted April 16 (edited) Nothing about the hobby itself "pisses me off". Really. I got past the point of getting mad at inanimate objects some time back. Challenges during building are part of the process, and if you make ANYTHING, there are going to be mistakes and setbacks and unexpected problems to solve. Deal with it. I'm occasionally disappointed that my lack of sufficient development of a particular skill interferes with my ability to achieve my vision, but I've been encountering that sort of thing my entire life, professionally as well, and all it signals is that it's time to put in a little more effort or learn something new. There's nothing anyone could say, no comment or remark, that would in any way negatively impact my enjoyment of this hobby or any other, but I do get tired of know-nothing internet experts endlessly offering their useless opinions and often just-flat-wrong advice about every topic under the sun. Again, there's nothing anyone could say, no comment or remark, that would negatively impact my enjoyment of this hobby or any other...but there are comments that completely turn me off of specific individuals, and make me wonder sometimes why I bother with social media at all, here or anywhere else. IMO I find by far the majority of members here are helpful, supportive and courteous. There are a few who like to argue over paint and glue etc. but I haven’t seen anyone get rude or abusive about someone’s build. Personally, I mention on all my build threads that comments, good or bad are welcome. If a member does not ask for all comments, I will only PM constructive criticism to them if I feel like they could benefit from it. Edit: In this age of social media you need a bit of a thick skin. The main thing is to build what you want, how you want and have fun doing it. It is only a hobby after all. Edited April 16 by NOBLNG 6
johnyrotten Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Funny how, as I was typing, a post came up about the exact thought. I've had a very talented member here pm me about a build, very positively. As a "middle of the road " builder I'm very appreciative of that. 1

NOBLNG Posted April 16 Posted April 16 What I find most annoying is conspicuous sprue attachment points on chrome parts. Second would be extremely vague or non existent mounting points for parts. Third is tiny parts being launched across the room by my vindictive tweezers. 6

Pretty sure the original parking lights from my '56 Del Ray are in the basement vaccuum. But that was 4 years ago. LOL but I did make new ones from clear nubs. 3
NOBLNG Posted April 16 Posted April 16 And another thing…anytime I drop a part it can’t land on the floor between my feet. Noooo!..it has to bounce under the desk so I have to get out of my chair onto my hands and knees. Then I I gotta get back up to get the flashlight and change my glasses.🤯 5 2

Falcon Ranchero Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Yeah these two above statements I've seen and done; the crawling under the table witha flash light to get a tail light or something, and then yes, having to touch up with silver after shaving off the burr on top of the bumper. I mean I don't get all pissed off about it; it's more like an "aww man, geez" type deal, not like I start cursing till kingdom come. 3

Crawling on the floor is an inevitable situation in modeling, its written into the universe. 3 4
stitchdup Posted April 16 Posted April 16 revells stupid idea of putting the brake disc in between the 2 wheel halves. gravity affecting different dropped parts in different ways such as dropping a wheel and it eventually gets found by the curiosity rover or a bit of pe that appears in the washing machine. duplicolour deciding to "fix" what works so now their uk paints are a watery poorly pressurised joke, though the newer colours look great. nobody makes a plastic kit of the hartmann cadillac. 1/25 isn't 1/24. 1/24 isn't 1/25. that guys better than me so i'm going to complain instead of practising posts. 1

Especially when I saw a flash of the part flying off in some direction and I look all over the place, clearing stuff out of the way, using my flashlight and/or my magnifier lamp and I just can't find the part (although sometimes I do). But for the times I couldn't find the part it suddenly shows up a week later off in some other direction from where I saw it fly off. 2
1972coronet Posted April 16 Posted April 16 (edited) [ deleted per the request of the administrators ] - Pesky, inferior decals ( too thick ; too glossy ; prone to tearing and/or folding ) - Items that are a P.I.T.A. to correct via my lack of proper tools - My hit-and-miss skills, esp. after 50 years of practising . Now, if you'll excuse me, that silver Testors paint I applied back in 1986 is finally cured. Edited April 16 by 1972coronet 1 2
peteski Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Nothing pisses me off. It's a hobby I chose to participate in and enjoy. If it was pissin' me off, I would just quit. Period! It's just a hobby guys! 3 1

It seems like FB is full of some bad groups and even show venders can be a bit grumpy. I certainly have reduced my circle of friends over the years. As far as skin goes, mine has become like shoe leather. I suppose it’s all part of the experience! 1

peteski Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Who needs all the drama. I'm also not on any social media except for some old-school forums (like this one). I guess there is something that bugs me: more and more manufacturers only sell on FB - no websites. But that's a general irk as it doesn't just apply to hobby stuff. 3

Probably cheaper to sell on FB and a much bigger audience...
