Brudda Posted June 30 Posted June 30 A 1/24 monogram GTO. 1985 kit. Modified the suspension for the tires and wheels. Prepped the body and primed it. It’s an old kit but overall it’s not bad. Using some parts from the foose impala kit. Door handles and windshield wipers so far. I have a model car garage photo etch set I’m going to use. Also going to use revell chrome paint for the bumpers. It’s an old kit but seems to cleanup nice . There are things that are old like the exhaust is molded in the rearend. The door panels are not separate, stuff like that. Well here goes. This is going to be a slow , fun build. 12
johnyrotten Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) Looking good, it's not a bad kit at all. I built one last year. Check the rear bumper, driver's side under the tailights. Mine had a dip in it, and I've seen others with the same. Edited June 30 by johnyrotten 1
meechum68 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I had that kit as a kid, I enjoyed it then, and can't wait to see the finish on this, will follow as you build! 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted June 30 Posted June 30 That was a good kit to build back then. This is my favorite year Goat. 1

WOW it’s a very big wave in the bumper. Mine has a small wave in the center as well. Thanks again. 1

I caught mine after I stripped and re-chromed it. Rookie mistake. Your gto is looking killer, I figured I had better pass that along. That kit can be made a coupe as well. 1
NOBLNG Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) Stance is looking good Bruce.👍 I started this kit back in 2019, set it aside for 5 years, and just finished it this year. A couple of things to watch out for: The bumpers don’t have decent mounting points. I shortened the steering column because I thought it was way too far from the dash. Check the fit of the hood…I had to shim mine up so it would sit flush. Then either the radiator or the nose piece wouldn’t let it close completely. Edited June 30 by NOBLNG 1 1
Brudda Posted July 8 Author Posted July 8 Well the tread of the tires are wrong. I’m going to have the tread going the wrong direction. On one side. The tires are off. The inside of the tire is very different than the raised letter side. So I cannot switch them around. Bummer. Oh well another imperfect model.

I’ve got a couple of sets of these in my stash and after checking, mine are the same. Never thought to look before. When l use mine I think I’ll have to sand off the raised letters and try and reconfigure them so the tread is right. 2
espo Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Maybe remove the lettering from the tire so they match. You could get some decal tire name lettering if that's the look you're wanting.
Brudda Posted Sunday at 04:07 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:07 PM Painted her. Need to color sand and polish. Just painted. Used chrome revell paint for the bumpers. Not a bad product. Keep you updated on that. 5
Brudda Posted Sunday at 04:12 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:12 PM Also fixed the warped rear bumper. Did not put the line back in. Actually I was lazy but it looks cleaner. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted Sunday at 04:14 PM Posted Sunday at 04:14 PM Yup, liking everything about this one. Color, paintwork, wheels, rake...spot on. 1

Brudda Posted Sunday at 05:04 PM Author Posted Sunday at 05:04 PM I’m going to show you in one picture the stages of finish. First I sand the flat spots with 2000 grit . You can see the orange peel. I sand the orange peel to flat. You have to stay away from the edges and be very careful not to sand thur the clearcoat. I use a meguires product called water spot removal for my first rub. It’s very abrasive so extreme caution is nessary not to rub thru the clearcoat. I use a product called base coat cleaner for my final rub . It’s from auto magic. Then I will polish with a automagic product. After that I use a strawberry wax from auto magic. This is how I get a very smooth finish. Not many people go through all this fuss, but I love a great finish and will go to the extra work for the smooth results. The roof of the GTO is in stages. The first 4, the polish and wax is next. As you can see the paint looked good but can be improved. Do not use these products on model paint! These steps are for automotive urethane finishes only. 2
espo Posted Sunday at 05:57 PM Posted Sunday at 05:57 PM Love the color, what is it and from whom? Like the wheels and low-profile tires. 1

Brudda Posted Monday at 02:52 AM Author Posted Monday at 02:52 AM Rubbed her out. Not going to wax her until I foil the body. She is shiny. 2
