Matt87 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I tried this and it seems it does not have as good of adhesive backing as the chrome does. Maybe i got a bad sheet? Has anyone else noticed that?
Beans Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I've got a sheet of chrome that I can't get to stick for anything. I think there was a bad run for a while.
peteski Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) While I love the original chrome BEM, I wouldn't recommend the black version. Not sure about the adhesive (there was a bad batch of all BMFs made during the COVID pandemic - yours might be from that period), but if its application is to depict rubber window gaskets, it is way too shiny for that, and the black coating could rub off during burnishing. StevenGuthmiller Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I bought one sheet of the black chrome WAY back when I first started using BMF, and never had much luck with adhesion. I stopped buying the colored foils many years ago because they’re all just regular foil with a colored coating which will rub off relatively easily. Steve
oldcarfan Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I need to get a new sheet of the black BMF, I know it has limitations, but I don't know of any better options.
Deathgoblin Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Same, the color just rubs off when you burnish it down. Also feels a lot stiffer than the other, so it's harder to work down.

How about mask and paint using satin black paint. If ordering, your best bet for a fresh sheet (black likely doesn't sell well in hobby stores) is to order it directly from BMF.

I do masking and painting in some cases, but I still like the look of BMF for some things. 1
Radretireddad Posted July 3 Posted July 3 (edited) I bought a sheet recently and found it to be absolutely useless. I wish I could get my $8.00 back. I use only the chrome and it can be painted with acrylics before applying. I’ve sprayed and brushed sections of a chrome sheet with both semi gloss black and rubber black. Works great. carrucha Posted Wednesday at 04:40 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:40 AM I bought a sheet years ago. It was lousy so I used it as masking material.
