Mike C Posted July 24 Posted July 24 How about this one with a bird. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/seagull-smashes-cockpit-fighter-jet-200111554.html?fr=yhssrp_catchall
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 24 Posted July 24 (edited) ^^^ I see the "journalist" refers to "aircrafts". C'mon, people. The plural of aircraft is aircraft...NO "S". This is becoming pretty common, and sounds idiotic to anyone who actually knows anything about planes. It's like calling a herd of sheep "sheeps". Edited July 24 by Ace-Garageguy 2 2
Old Buckaroo Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Certain people in Seattle are running a close tie with "Florida man". 1

Bill, It's probably no worse then people saying "casted" as the past tense of cast. Don't know about your neck of the woods but the past tense of cast has always been "cast" up here.🙄 2

There's a lot of this kind of stuff these days, it's fairly recent, is indicative of changes in the "education" system, and it makes my skin crawl. I'm a big fan of parts runners in kits referred to as "spruce" too. 1 4

I suspect that his one is a result of auto-correct many people have enabled on their smart and not-so-smart devices. Still, that doesn't make it right. I do roll my eyes whenever I see "spruce" used for describing a parts tree. Actually I believe that the sprue is not the parts tree "frame" but the small plastic tabs connecting the part to the parts tree. 1

The "sprue" is technically the first mold cavity that molten plastic is injected into, with the "runners" being the correct term for what we often call "sprues" or "trees". I'm guilty of occasionally using "sprue" for "runner", but at least it's not a species of evergreen. 1

Dragline Posted July 25 Posted July 25 With my degree in English I will say the Internet is a cringe fest when it comes to either spelling, pluralization or there, their, they're. But the one that really burns me is Heighth. There is no H at the end of Height. I don't know where this came from, but it makes me nuts. There, I said it. 3 1 1

I've had cats that totally freaked out whenever the neighborhood pyros started letting off firecrackers. Somehow it never occurred to me to sue anybody. I've also had cats that didn't twitch a whisker, looked around, had some chow, and went back to sleep. Definitely my preferred kind of feline personalities. 4

How about the name Hugh spelled "Huge" and vice-versa? Huge Hugh don't come 'round here no more. 3

Ace-Garageguy Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Maybe it's time to change the thread title from "Blue Angels Killed a Cat" to "Grammar Pedants Beat a Dead Horse". 2 5
