Gramps46 Posted Wednesday at 06:05 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:05 PM Ford GT40 Spyder GT111 - The strange tale. In 1965 GT111 was an F.A.V entry in the Targa Florio in Scilly. The drivers were Bob Bondurant and Sir John Whitmore. The competition was mostly from Ferrari for the overall win. During the race a wheel knock off nut came off. Fortunately, a spectator was gracious enough to find it and give it back. But then GT111 hit a road marker and damaged the car beyond repair and had to retire. The car was returned to F.A.V . and stripped of useable parts and left to rust outdoors. Finally, a decision was made to cut the chassis in half and ship it off to the scrap dealer. Mysteriously, the two halves of the chassis never made it to the scrap pile and was hidden in storage for decades. Eventually the remains were found and verified by Ronnie Spain and sent to Gelscoe for restoration plus the construction of a clone. The kit for this model is a 1/24 scale Mini Exotics resin body and a Tamiya//Revell GT40 chassis and interior. The paint is Tamiya TS60 Pearl Green. Life got in the way and it took several years to finish the build. What is next? The Evolution of the Ford GT 40 in Scale. 5
Rich Chernosky Posted Wednesday at 06:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:24 PM Got er over the finish line. Great job Gary. That's a mighty impressive collection of Fords you got there. Thanks for posting.
1959scudetto Posted Wednesday at 10:04 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:04 PM Well done, Gary - this would surely fill a gap in my collection. Your GT40 group is very impressive to look at, Gary - I can see lots of great racers (and very rare models) here!
Dave B Posted yesterday at 12:06 AM Posted yesterday at 12:06 AM That's a great collection of GT40's Gary and a nice build of 111. Thanks for posting. Dave B PS do you have the Can-Am version of 110?

ea0863 Posted yesterday at 02:59 PM Posted yesterday at 02:59 PM A beautiful car, and a fantastic collection!
vamach1 Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I have been fortunate to see Gary’s collection (this is the tip of the iceberg) and as a Ford fan he has quite a variety of predominately race cars and the kits would make any hobby shop jealous. If I recall the X-1 was a slot car conversion cast by Mini Exotics. Glad to see you got this one finished on the lesser know GT40s and it reminds me I have a lot of Fujumi kits of MKI and MKII and some resin MKI and MKIV kits that deserve to be built. Very nice build and I remember seeing the complete 1966 Lemans MKII entries are the NNL east show many years ago. Not sure back then if all the decal variations were available but these the availability of decals is amazing. 1
