I also have one of these in my home office that I picked up from Amazon back in 2020 (photo from Amazon):

Display Case Cabinet Wall Rack for 1:24 Scale Diecast Toy Cars Wheels Model Car O Scale, HO Scale Train, or Hess Trucks Hot-HW14

I can get five 1/24 cars on each shelf, so it'll hold about 20 cars.  I say "about" because obviously if your cars are smaller (like the Revell 1930 Ford Roadster, for instance), you'll get more per shelf. Here's the link: Display Case

How much were these when they were available? Does it have a plexiglass hinged door on it?

It was $140, and it does have a hinged plexiglass door on it.

Think I have found what I need. 174cm high, 78.5cm wide, 32 cm deep has plexiglass hinged doors, 4 shelves pretty reasonable at AU$189. Good width and shelf depth should hold quite a few models. Now just have to find that credit card. :)Etienne5TierDisplayCabinet.jpg.17902a0d13213ea8a16f867350eeebd1.jpg

I have used in my first cabin, IKEA Billy Bookcases and a glass door front, plus plexiglass home cut shelving, as the IKEA units only come with three glass shelves. The sides of the cabinets are already drilled to take more shelves and I use short cut lengths of sprue as pins for the shelves. As we have moved house 'downsizing' as they say, another cabin is already ordered to fit a part of the small garden we now have.

I have a couple older commercial (department store) display cases. They typically cost $100 or less. I add LED light strips as they can get dark when you load then with models.

The pic is a case I have been using to display 50's - early 70's original survivor builds.

I went hunting on Craigslist for a glass china cabinet. I found this one for $90. It has glass doors and side panels. I added 4 more glass shelves for $53. It holds all these cars and 4 semi trucks (2 car haulers and 2 flatbeds). I built my diorama to barely fit on one of the shelves. I still have space for more models. I bought some clear rectangular trays and use them as risers. Years ago, the single model display boxes were on sale for $4 each. I bought 10 as that was all I could afford at the time.

30 plus years ago I lucked into an old, blonde wood, glass topped jewelry store display case, about 5-1/2 feet long, with mirrored sliding doors to access the display area and storage underneath, for $50.  Adjustable glass shelves inside, haven't filled it yet!  Need to get building more.  I'll take some pics when i get it cleared off, that flat top is just too tempting a surface!

Also started a photo diorama garage using 3 Fujimi garage kits, a long term WIP.
