Simo5555 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Hi! Time for another new build. Had a nostalgic flashback from early 2000s when the computer game named Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed was released. I was just a kid back then - spent numerous hours behind my grandma's PC driving around Cote d'azur with my (digital) gray Porsche 911. Ah, the times were good. So seeing this kit up for sale, i just knew - i had to build one for me. So this is it - my version of the legendary 911. Kit itself is from Revell - seems like its a nice interesting kit. Lets see how this one turns out 9
Mattilacken Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Sweet! I have also been countless hours infront of that game! I had a logitech steeringwheel with a printed Porsche logo on! Must have been one of the best NFS games, not that unrealistic. Only downside was that Cars could not be modifyed as i recall. But great game! Will be following your build, built something similar from the fujimi curbside kit last year. There are some pics floating around if interested. 1

Will try to find some pictures of your build. It really was an awesome game! It had a basic customization options - you could swap some performance parts, wheels and changed the color of your cars. But, lets kick this build off 😁 I usually start my builds with the interior or with the engine, but this time - the body looked so cool so i had to start with it. At first glance it seems like a really nice and solid kit. Not your average Monogram or old tool Revell's. Sadly, i don't have any experience with Tamiya models so can't really compare with those. But I really like the details of this one. So the kit gives you two options for the front bumber. I'm going with the front bumber that has the front splitter/spoiler thing (the other option is without it). It kindof bugged my that the front spoiler is molded with the bumber. Theres no clear line separating those two. So i already see the annoyance trying to mask those later. So decided to scribe my own line Im my opinion, it makes the front end look a bit cleaner Its the same with the rear bumber - no clear line between black plastic and the bumper So scribbed my own lines (i hate scribbing, btw ) Also scribbed the bodylines too A little mishap with the sunroof too But no biggie - will fix it later with some putty Testfitted the rear hood (spoiler: it didnt sit right). Somehow the hinges kept the hood under tension causing it to pop open After some gentle bending and sanding, i got it too sit pretty good Theres also two options for the headlights - i'm guessing its the US and EU versions. I'm going with the EU version. So heres where its at - the front bumper is glued on along with the headlights Rear bumper too: And the body is ready for its first wetsanding session: Oh, also started some work with the engine. But this is a story for another update later down the line: 7
Mattilacken Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Looks like you are off to a great start! I was looking at this kit back then but already had the other one so I went with it. here is the finished thread. 1

Ooh, that looks so cool I really shouldn't watch pictures like these - i've been contemplating about buying myself a resin 3d printer for a long time now.
SpikeSchumacher Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Nice work so far, Simo! I will be following as I have this one in the stash as well. 😉 1
Simo5555 Posted August 26 Author Posted August 26 So, painted the underside and the engine block I like to paint the undersides black on my models. I know some of you guys like to do them in fancy oversprays and in body colors I like the look of satin black. Was actually thinking of doing the engine bay in body color, but decided to go with the black instead. Idk, it somehow looks cooler - i like it alot Then painted the exhaust in titanium gold following some light coats of transparent brown. Thinking back, i should've used some transparent orange too to give it a more of a heatstained look So will probably tinker at it a bit more. Then it was time for the interior Wanted it to look like an old leather shoe. So mixed something together - i call this one "The grandpa's old shoe" 😁 Actually looks pretty cool - i really like it. 7
SpikeSchumacher Posted August 26 Posted August 26 As it has been said before, "build your model the way YOU like it, if others don't like it, that's okay. Let THEM do it their way." (Or something to that effect... 😉) 2
beeRS Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Great start on this. Is this a new(ish) tooled kit from Revell? I think it was definitely wise to scribe those lines in the body before painting. Can I ask, what scribing tool are you using there? I have Tamiya one, but the replacement tungsten bits are very expensive. 1

Works great but eats blades, but they are cheap from international sources. Great progress there! 1 1

As for the scribing, i mostly use the scriber from Dspiae along with the 0,2mm hook type tip. Works well enough for me. Wasn't too expensive too - the set was around 30 USD total. 1
Simo5555 Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Did a bit of masking Wasn't as easy as it looks Then did some painting Then i noticed the underside of the gauges should be black. So grabbed a brush and did some more painting Also painted the rear axle ,,,,,, then did a bit of thinking - should i add some details to the engine or not? The engine bay is pretty small and crowded already, but hey, a nice challenge should be good So decided, i'm going to add some spartplug wires (i'll probably regret it later ) So, stripped the paint - wanted it to look a bit more flat. Then used my trusty old ruler to mark the centerline of the valve covers. After that, drilled some holes *also did a bit of cleaning The dusty lamp and dirty table looked pretty horrible already. Took all my models out from the display cabinet - here they are My two years of work (Beetle bug is missing - it sits proudly in my livingroom): (I definitely need a bigger display cabinet) 6
meechum68 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Looks great! I like the tips on scribing to help the body "pop" 1
NOBLNG Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Nice start on this one Simo. I really like the look of the 911s.😎 2
Simo5555 Posted Sunday at 11:01 AM Author Posted Sunday at 11:01 AM Time for some bodywork First, some sanding with the good ol' 600grit sponge (Note to self: NEVER put your hot coffee next to a bowl of sponge water. You WILL burn your fingers!) Then the first coat of filler primer I usually like to do my priming right after the sanding - this way you can see all the scratches and dents showing up Makes it really easy to do some putty work After that, some more sanding.....and more priming. And some more sanding (If you don't hate sanding now, you will hate it later). And then, it was time to paint And this is how it came out 3
Simo5555 Posted Sunday at 06:15 PM Author Posted Sunday at 06:15 PM I really like the chrome rings around the speedo on some Singer models. So wanted to do chrome rings on this one too So, grabbed a tiny brush and some silver paint After that, painted the center console Then taped up the rear seats Brushed the glue on And did some flocking 3
Donny Posted Sunday at 11:02 PM Posted Sunday at 11:02 PM Looking good mate. Really like that flocking, adds nice realism. Don 1
Simo5555 Posted Monday at 05:18 PM Author Posted Monday at 05:18 PM Did some decal work Got the speedo done! To be honest, the decals are pretty awful in this kit. Felt like old monogram decals - they're thick and needs quite a bit of soaking. Also, there's this really large transparent edge on almost every decal. Next time i'm smarter and will probably try to trim them down before soaking them. But, with a bit of help from microset and microsol solutions, i got them to look pretty okayish: After that, i added a bit of crystal glass to the gauges. Actually looks pretty nice - i really like it Also did the sidepanel decals too. Will probably do a some flat clearing and flocking too 2

If I can get mine to look like that, I'll be happy Don 1
Simo5555 Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM Did some more flocking Doorpanels are pretty much done. Also did some interior testfitting Actually looks pretty cozy Also started working on the engine 2
Simo5555 Posted 14 hours ago Author Posted 14 hours ago I was tinkering on the engine a bit First, painted the idle control valve (i think its what its called) Then it was time for the main engine block. Did some painting (a bit sloppy, i know. It will be hidden so wasnt really trying to make it look good ) Then glued it together Wanted to add the plug wires. Found a piece of random red wire. Heated up the insulation and pulled out the copper fibers so only the insulating tube was left. Sadly it was in red. So added a coat of black paint Then cut them to lenght and glued them into the engine block. Wanted to make them look like the coil end of the plug wires. Came out looking pretty neat I really like it. 3
peteski Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago So, this is a newly tooled kit? Nice! I thought it was a reboxing of the Fujimi Porsche, like Revell did some years ago. 1

They have their flaws, but they're really good. Available in coupe, targa, and cabriolet variants. 2

Still has some mould defects, but nothing major.
