Phildaupho Posted Wednesday at 03:26 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:26 PM Back when the Revell Reynard Champ Car kits were first released at the turn of the century local modellers built a grid of models representing most of the liveries that were currently racing. All of these models were brought together for a display at a Vancouver Motorsports Show. My contribution was a model of Paul Tracy’s Kool sponsored Reynard. One of the other modellers built a fabulous replica of Greg Moore’s Player’s sponsored race car. Even though I was big fan of Greg I did not have the imitative to build my own model of his race car until I was recently asked to put together a display of models representing Greater Vancouver Motorsports Pioneers. Greg Moore was an incredible racing talent who was tragically killed in an accident at the California Speedway in 1999. He was contracted to move to the dominate Penske team in 2020 where he may have eventually won the Indy 500 and Champ Car Championship. I believe he was so good he could have eventually gone to F-1 and with the right team could have become a World Champion. I built this model pretty much box stock. I first sprayed the aft section of the body and the front wing Tamiya Pure White. I am not very satisfied with the results of my decision to mask the white painted areas with Bare-Metal-Foil in part because my before spraying with Tamiya Light Blue which is very close to the Player’s Blue. After some touch up, I proceeded to apply the decals. I figured I would be in good shape having both the kit decals and the Ricambi Player’s livery decals both being printed in Italy which is renowned as the source for high quality decals. Something I did not factor into the equation is that both sets of decals were a quarter of a century old. Neither set of decals reacted favourably to any of my multiple decal solutions so the results leave something to be desired. Be that as it may I am very pleased to finally have this model in my collection. 6
Rich Chernosky Posted Wednesday at 07:42 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:42 PM Phil.....that is a real sharp looking build and a great tribute. I was at an Indy race in Nazareth Penna and had pit passes. It really poured and we ducked under the tailgate of one of the race teams. In the small group was Gregg and we got to talk to him. He was still in his driving suit and wanted to race but the rain was so heavy you could barely see your hands in front of your face. Didn't have to talk to him too long to realize he was the real deal. What a cool guy. Sadly in a few months he was gone.
TonyK Posted Wednesday at 08:06 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:06 PM Great looking model. Thanks for telling us what paint you used as I have a couple of these I want to build and those colors look perfect.

Living in Vancouver I was able to witness his entire career. He was very well liked by his fellow drivers.

Thanks Bruce - I would like to get one of those Salvino JR kits of the current Indycars but not sure what livery I would want to use. I would likely have to get after market decals as none of the one available from Salvino JR really grab me.
m3fan Posted Thursday at 11:49 PM Posted Thursday at 11:49 PM Really well done Phil! I too have that and many other CART champ cars to do. They really are a fun kit to build. You've made me worry about my decals now😂 Look forward to seeing it at next meeting. Russ

Russ Thanks Russ - I have the Dan Gurney Team Eagle version which I would really like to build someday and it has a very complex set of decals with no back up. I have not researched options for old decals but hopefully someone has figured out a solution.

It is never going to happen but the one off Grateful Dead livery on Rosenqvist's Dallara was sure cool. Metallica is next.
