With the reported release of the “New” Jo-Han AMX kit a few weeks ago, this might be timely . . .

A couple years back, someone posted in this forum calling for pictures of our Jo-Han models.  Since I had this AMX squirreled away in storage, I got it out to photograph but clumsily dropped it.  Nothing too bad — only losing a wheel.  And, after 45 or so years of being boxed up, I was really pleased to discover the Testor’s Chrome Silver bottle paint I used for the trim was nearly dry. LOL

Anyway, I probably should have just reattached the wheel and returned it to storage . . . But that just isn’t me, so . . . once I had it on the workbench, I decided a little modernization might be in order. . . but only just a little.  I left the running gear alone, spruced up the exterior with new paint and sought to finally revitalize the interior from a horrific tube-glue and corduroy fabric upholstery job (which was still a thing when I originally built the AMX).

After stripping the original paint, the body was sprayed with Tamiya Metallic Orange (TS-92), including the bumpers. That was followed by a couple coats of Tamiya Clear Orange (TS-73) to intensify the tone and then topped off with Duplicolor clear before a light Novus polishing.  The side-stripe graphics are homemade ink-jet decals (loosely inspired by a Chip Foose “Overhaulin’” build) and for the trim, I went with BMF (and a few touches of Molotow) this time around.  The BBS mesh wheels & low-profile rubber are from Aoshima and, as a final touch, I added some aluminum exhaust tips and . . . presto change-o:  Instant resto-mod . . . circa 2012 maybe?

Anyhow, this began as a quick little re-builder project.  It ended up being slightly more than that, but no matter — I appreciate y’all looking — (the photos are kinda stinky) thank you!  And as always, comments and questions are welcome.

I definitely like both versions of this car, but have to admit that the orange color particularly appeals to me. It reminds me a lot of the AMX III paintwork. Well done!

Looks great! I have one of these in my restoration pile, too! It's still in really good shape, so taking it apart, stripping paint, and rebuilding it is all that is needed.

Beautiful paint color and finish. The body side stripes look good and makes the body look longer. The wheels are the biggest visual improvement giving this a more modern look than the previous wheels.
