NYLIBUD Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I got slammed by a UPS truck.🫣It was a great car.2009 Crown Vic,police interceptor .😱Totaled total. Nooooo!!!!!.There goes my insurance. 6
meechum68 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Oh man that sucks so bad I would get it back to yank the drive line from engine to rear end. And it looks like that driver side wheel lived. I hate seeing that.Â
sfhess Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) if you were, as you say, "slammed by a UPS truck", and you are not at fault, your insurance had better not go up. Edited October 7 by sfhess 2 1
The Junkman Posted October 7 Posted October 7 For all the front end damage, the cabin stayed remarkably intact and undamaged. It did its job. I'll bet you were sore in a few places afterwards but given the alternative outcome.... Steve (a driver of a remarkably large number of Crown Vics-for business purposes that is.) 1

Unfortunately, that's not how it works. Even if UPS' insurance company covers replacement cost on the Crown Vic, Ron now has an accident on his record. So although his insurance company may not have to pay anything for the accident, his rates will undoubtedly rise because of this.  Is the frame toast? Most insurance write offs can offer a "keep it" option, where you get to keep the vehicle, you get paid less than replacement cost, and the vehicle now has a salvage title on it. Many years ago, I had a VW Passat that I spent a lot of time and effort on. It was written off in a hailstorm. Insurance gave me the option of $4500, and the car goes away, or I get $3000 and keep the car, albeit with a salvage record. Mechanically, it was perfect, interior was perfect. I knew I couldn't replace the car for $4500, so I kept the car and used the $3k to repair the body. The cool part was that they never added a salvage record to the VIN. As far as any searches were concerned, the car was never damaged or written off.  Anyway, if given the option, would keeping the car and repairing the front end be an option?Â
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 'T'were me, I'd buy the salvage from the insurance company if that's an option where you are. It is where I am, and I've saved several "economic totals" that were excellent mechanically, and either brought them back, or swapped the guts into straight shells. Far as fixing that one goes, I don't know many shops that are competent to do that car right (WE are), but I've seen so much structural buggery that was "just repaired"...well, I wouldn't want it, period...unless you know a shop that has a reputation for doing heavy hits absolutely correctly. There aren't many out there. 1 1
NYLIBUD Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 (edited) Thanks for all the advice guys.No I got a nice payout from Nationwide. And the car is a complete wreck.I’ll just get another one.I have a couple of other cars ,so that’s positive. But this was a good car.Its gone.🫣Hit a @&%#?UPS truck.oh heaven's to Betsy!?Sorry who do we s that h as open too,big square brown truck,😖 Edited Sunday at 10:27 PM by NYLIBUD 2
johnyrotten Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Looking at the damage, I wouldn't be surprised to see damage on the engine and transmission,as far as broken mounting bosses for accessories and engine mounts. It's a shame too, those are great, cool cars. 1

Here in Pa, your rates will not go up due to a non fault accident.Â
Brutalform Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Sorry to learn of your loss, Ron. Glad you weren’t injured. 1
bobss396 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 My stepmother wadded up a similar Mercury around 2009. That was more across the front, even the dash was pushed back.

Firstly, I'm glad that you're okay physically. Too bad that you couldn't part it out - lots of CVPI-only equipment on those ( Certified Calibration speedometer ; dash trim where the centre trunk-release button is ; driver-side door panel... just to name a couple ). Heck, I'd buy the Lighting Control Module from you ! The one in my '04 has a bad relay - rebuilt ones are $300 my cost.Â

There was no "accident" (crash) on my record and no increase in my premium. The key words are "at fault". If an insurance company raises you rates for a not-at-fault crash, it's time to find another insurance company Edited October 9 by sfhess
webestang Posted Thursday at 06:33 PM Posted Thursday at 06:33 PM What a bummer. Seems you are OK and that is a great relief. Such a sweet Vic. I myself had to sell my 96 Vic due to so many electrical problems. Would love to have another but they are getting very scarce here in St. Lou.Â

The Junkman Posted Friday at 02:22 AM Posted Friday at 02:22 AM (edited) Part of my extensive experience with Crown Vics, I periodically had to investigate collisions involving UPS trucks. It always seemed amusing that when a tow truck was called for their trucks, the tow truck contract mandated that the UPS logos be covered by duct tape or some such when "on the hook". Like no one would notice this massive brown brick-shaped vehicle and not know exactly who owned it? bobss396 Posted Friday at 12:01 PM Posted Friday at 12:01 PM A friend of mine used to live off Imperial Way. I know the exact location. You'll find another car soon I hope. 1
