The 1967-69 Barracuda kits (1967 AMT branded, 197/68-69 MPC branded) were formed from updated tooling of the original AMT 1965-67 tooling...the history of all this was covered in the next to most recent issue of Model Cars Mag (issue #225)...the one with the 1969 Rallye Green fastback on the upper RH corner of the cover....TB

Speaking of the '66 Barracuda funny car kits, was looking at the Hemi Hustler kit, and on the side of the box says it has a 426 Fully Blown engine...as opposed to 'partially blown'?   ;)

I've got 2 of those Fireball 500 Kits, sitting in the stash.

I wonder how hard it will be to do just an engine swap?

Is the Stock 273 V-8 in the Lindberg Li'l Red Wagon a viable swap choice for a regular, V-8 Barracuda?

I've got one of those too.

The More I see of this little kit, the more I like it.

I have a 273 from a Little Red Wagon kit just for a 65 Barracuda project.

Mods, Can we just combine the threads on these new kits?

What existing topic would you combine this with that only talks about this new 65 kit? All the other threads where this new kit is discussed is combined with other kits. If there is a stand alone topic on this kit already i apologize, but I did search before i started it.

I was thinking could combine this with the body from HUG kit to do a '66, but the HUG kit has the rear wheel wells opened up larger.

Bet you could have some fun with it.

Hogging out the rear WWs was a common '60s trick and when matches with the right wheel tire combo, will always flutter my heart.

IIRC, the Alexander Brothers did it to a Barracuda show car (pix, somewhere, God knows) that was the color Sven is using for his build now.

Man, dig those front suspension lowers, the rear suspension, and the exhaust!

Seems you could throw in a Lindberg slant six from one of the more all-inclusive recent AMT 330/Belvedere reboxings and be 90% of the way to a full-detail model without cheating the donor kit of its V8...

Yeah, that's got a bunch of discussions around the unrelated 60 Nomad all lumped together. Each deserve their own thread for the sake of clarity.

I started this topic and my goal was just to talk about the improved chassis detail over previous Craftsman clone kits. Didn't know how soon the 65 Barracuda would be publicly shown in detail.

I don't have any issue with the thread you created about the 2 new Craftsman kits Craig. Someone has a problem that i created a stand alone one dedicated to the new 65 Cuda where no others existed before 🤷‍♂️

There's times when a standalone thread is worthwhile, like this one. A lot of good info is spread too thin with the 2'n'1 discussions. Another one that should have been separated was the Mach Won/ Charger thread muddle.

The '66 wheel openings could be reworked back to stock using the '65 as a template.  Sheet plastic, epoxy putty, and a little two-part glazing putty.20240914_124404.jpg.65d957e5e9c3e9887e5aff4a482f5bdd.jpgThe Dodge body is a Polar Lights piece.  After piecing in a strip of plastic to build up the height of the body below the beltline, the wheel openings were reduced in size using an annual kit body as a template for the rears (and as a starting point for the fronts).  All that is just sheet and strip styrene, and two-part glazing putty.  This was done long before the Moebius kit came out.  My educated guesses on the wheel openings were pretty good.

The Olds is a Modified Stocker body; again the wheel openings were restored to stock using an annual kit as a template, with sheet plastic and two-part putty.  If you have done custom work on a model car body, you can do this.20200926_074321.jpg.69ece4c049413ab83ef4509e5e822f4c.jpg

We need to see more of your work!!! Love this. Tom Mooty might be able to run some decals for you to do the Baker car.
