NYLIBUD Posted Sunday at 06:56 PM Posted Sunday at 06:56 PM Sorry,I wasn’t exactly sure where to post this, but Scale Auto Contest Cars issue was out on the stands at Barnes,& Noble. 1 1
NYLIBUD Posted Monday at 06:57 AM Author Posted Monday at 06:57 AM No problem.I think it’s great how SAE has just enough,I guess in their budget,to put out this issue every few months,or more common, one issue per year. But idk,did SAE go under,?I have not seen it at the book store in a long time. They got rid of a lot of great magazines. There are some nice models in this issue…Pick up a copy.
bobss396 Posted Monday at 12:05 PM Posted Monday at 12:05 PM Thanks. I will check the book store by the Gardiner Mall on Sunrise by me. It was a great magazine, I have been in them between 1999 and maybe 2012. Their forum was decent at the time. Some big time modelers took part in the discussions.

Yea it was a great rag.Like I said,at least they put out their Contest issue still..I had one models of mine, make it into the magazine. Its from 96,a blue Lindberg unmarked police CV car.It was from the show that was held at the Raddison(spelling)?,or the Hilton,I can’t remember which,on the North side of the LIE.Which is the casino/ hotel Jake’s 58.I too have boxes filled with copies of SAE, and other model car magazines..🙄Gotta get rid of some. 1
Dave Ambrose Posted Monday at 06:09 PM Posted Monday at 06:09 PM Kalmbach folded SAE into Finescale Modeler. There was a lot of consternation about that, and their model car coverage has been much reduced since then. 1

My 1st ever show was there in 1998 and my '65 Ford stock car made the annual that year. I don't think it was the Jake's place. It was on Motor Parkway. We used to do the show with the Suffolk Scale Modelers club, which has folded. It was a great venue, it even had a bar 🍸. I won best of show at the 1999 contest with a '58 Chevy custom. They had to find me, in the bar.. I thought they were pulling my leg.

I recall that it was close to the highway. Jake's is set back more. That venue was pretty expensive at the time too, even with sharing costs.
peteski Posted yesterday at 05:51 AM Posted yesterday at 05:51 AM (edited) Funny that they (Firehouse, Firestorm or whatever Media) still calls it "Scale Auto's" since that magazine was killed several years ago. But at least they still publish photos from my club's annual contest. Edited yesterday at 05:51 AM by peteski

peter31a Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago A nitpick about contest coverage. I hate it when a car is shown on the cover or on the index page and there is nothing about it in the issue itself. The latest issue of Model Cars has a 48 Woody wagon on the cover and a VW Bug on the index page with no mention of them elsewhere in the magazine (that I can see). This is a disservice to the builders and the readers. To be fair this doesn't just apply to Model Cars Mag. I've seen it happen with Scale Auto and Fine Scale as well.

Yea they do that.Thats why you sort of have to thumb through it,to see if the coverage is there.Or the index.
Bugatti Fan Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I find it a bit crass when a publisher axes a magazine then uses its title years on to produce a 'special'. It was inevitable that when SA was 'absorbed' into FSM the SA content would dwindle. Seen this so many times over the years when one magazine title gets amalgamated into another leading to its demise and eventually gets forgotten.

Ok I know in the world we live in,everything is on line:I stated this in a post a few years ago..It annoys me that a lot how so many great magazines were pulled off the shelves over past few years ,ones that I have been reading for years.Hot Rod is now Bi-Monthly,I think.Magazines like JP All Jeeps,Fourwheeler,4Wheel and Off Road,Popular Hot Rodding,Muscle car review, numerous Motorcycle magazines,Cycle World,Motorcyclist.I mean to name a few.But at least Dirt bike is still in production along with Motorcross Action.Several tattoo magazines as well, all .Model Railroader that the above with. And I believe it’s called Modele railroad Crafts man is still going.Idk,just sucks.
