AMT 1949 Ford Business Coupe

Another effort to bring an old tool AMT kit up to 21st century standards. I first built this kit in the early 60's, then again in the 80's, then I rebuilt the 80's version around 2010. So this kit is near and dear to my heart. But in this build I incorporated features that I apply to most of my builds these days : opened panels, detailed suspension, engine, clutch and shift linkage, brake lines and e-brake details, trunk spare, separate wipers, and dash gauges and controls. This particular car is a 'business coupe', the rear seat has been removed and replaced with a shelf. These cars served traveling salesmen and provided a carry all area. Business coupes generally were the cheapest model devoid of most amenities. The seat backs are hinged and a strap on turn signal gizmo added. The kit parking and brake lights now have clear/red lenses, and fog lights were added.The paint is good old Tamiya Gloss black rattle can, buffed and ceramic coated. The tires and wheels are from the klt. The crappy kit chrome was stripped and painted with Rustoleum Chrome, I'm too cheap to buy the Revell chrome paint !

My old man had one just like it for a company car (minus the blue-dots) when I was a kid.

I loved that thing. Every time I small a decent survivor interior it really takes me back...

Amazing attention to detail everywhere you look. The interior patterns and fabric colors look perfect as does the trunk interior. The engine and chassis detailing looks very realistic. As a very young child I went with my father to pick up the families new '49 Ford 4-door Custom in black with an interior that looks just like your model. When old enough I had a few different '51 Fords and they were great cars.
