[Scale-Master]

Always wanted to build one of these since I was kid. Finally picked one up in the vendor room at the last GSL. Just going out-of-the-box and using good 'ole Testors paint for much of it, at least what will be seen when it's done (the Tiki Hut is a different story...).

The interior was treated to some Scale-Master decal gauges and I couldn't resist taking some artistic license with the VHT Purple paint on the header.

This thing was a blast to paint, not much in the way of assembly, but a great way to burn a few hours each evening for about a week. I sprayed tan on the sides, brown on the roof. Then it was just brush painting the details and using washes.

It;s so easy to sell these "novelty" kits short. The chassis is really a marvel with that nicely detailed BMC "A" series engine and Mini front end. You've really done a nice jpb of picking out all the yummy eye candy. Looking forward to more...

I love that chassis too.. could sure drape some neat chunks of sheet metal over that.

I love the novelty kits and have several, and have built a few.

Such a great change of pace.

There is so much humor and creativity in these type of kits, hard not to laugh all the way through the build.

That chassis is about the coolest thing I've ever seen! I never took this kit seriously before now but I'm wondering what other cool things could be done with one. Great work!!

I really like the dry brush on the hut. I am still trying to find the hidden 7 in there. I'll go back and count the fan blades.

The Surfite is coming together; the chassis and interior are done. The body is almost done, just detail and trim work for the exterior. In the mean time here is what is done…

On a side note, this is probably one of the more underestimated kits as far as detail and fit. For as old as it is, and as tiny as it is, the fit is very good. The real car is not really all that “detailed†or busy, so some of the perceived simplicity of the model is really a reflection of accuracy.

Ah, Scale-Master decals. What's the name of the guy who makes those...?

On a serious note, though, I do have to say the chassis/drivetrain detail is pretty impressive for such an oddball kit, and the detailing you did really makes it jump. Never really thought much of this kit, but I might just have to pick one up now.
