jjsipes Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Here is a another build I just started late last week. It is a resin 1970 El Camino from Jimmy Flintstone. Will be built using the AMT 1970 Chevelle kit. I have cleaned the body of flash, fitted the AMT 1970 Chevelle grille and bumper (fits better than the resin pieces, I know the turn signals are different from Chevelle to El Camino). Have Chevelle windshield fitted as well. Will make rear window. Mocked up wheels and tires, needs to set just a little higher for my taste. Wheels are from Monogram 78 or 79 Camaro. I am thinking Testors Lacquer Fathom Green with white hood stripes. Interior color? Been thinking Parchment but may go black.
gseeds Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 been wondering about this resin for a while, good or not, yours looks very good so far,im glad your posting this, been wanting to build one myself, ill be watching yours, thanks.
Crazy Ed Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I've wondered what you do for the interior for that kit. I'm guessing you chop up the Chevelle's. Ed
jjsipes Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 I've wondered what you do for the interior for that kit. I'm guessing you chop up the Chevelle's. Ed It actually comes with a resin interior tub but a little rough so I will be modifing the Chevelle tub to fit. You will need to use the seats and dsah from the Chevelle. The resin also comes with it own chassis. I reality you really only use the hood, dash, seat, engine, suspension, windshield, wheels and tires from the Chevelle. Here is a picture of what you get with the resin kit.
george 53 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I just picked up a 72 Elky from Jimmy in April , at our MCCC toy show for 10 bucks. It's JUST the body though, an NOT a complete kit like yours. So far it's been just a simple conversion to the plastic kit parts. His stuff is pretty easy to work with, there IS some clean up required, as with most of his stuff, but they ARE NICE accurate castings. If I'da seen your body, I'da bought it to, caz I LIKE elkys!!! She's lookin good so far, it'll be nice to see when it's done!
Eshaver Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 For once , somebody did it right and included a Chassis ! I'm so sick and tired of hacking up kits just to get a resin body to work on annother kit , whew !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver

Given all the parts that just might make it onto my gotta get list! Thanks Ed
Snake45 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Have Chevelle windshield fitted as well. Will make rear window. I'm impressed. I have a JF '72 Elky body. Every time I get in the mood to build it, I get it out and imagine what a PITA it will be to clean the thing up so that the windshield can actually go in it, and then the mood passes and it goes back in the box. Any tips, tricks, or pointers on that?
James2 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) I like what your doing here. How is the body? I find JF kind of a Cr@p shoot, you never know what kind of quality you'll get. Edited December 2, 2016 by James2

Since this started in 2009 is this already built ? If not the build would be interesting to follow.
jjsipes Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 No it's not built yet. Too many irons in the fire. It has nothing to do with the quality though.
DumpyDan Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Looks good as a 70's, not much difference from a 68 except the front end
MeatMan Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Hey Jason, nice work on the body. I think the newer JF bodies might be better than the older ones, and the interior and chassis are great additions!May I ask what steps you took to get the body smoothed? What grit did you start with? Thanks.
Mr mopar Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Would this body be right to back date to a 1969 ? change the front sheet metal form Revell new '69 Chevelle ?
