Here's a small update. Been working ALOT so I haven't had much time at the bench but I did get these done

First, I was on a search for a Lasalle transmission and was told that there was one in the miss deal stud kit. Got it out and broke out the resin casting goodies and whipped one up

I added some nut and bolt detail (which isn't showing up to well in the pics).

then I started on the body first scratch built body ever. Not too bad but I can see I need to trim the bottom of the body some as the doors appear too tall.... as always comments are welcome..

That is looking good Shane,I must admit that until I saw your WIP I didn't know about this car..I like the chassis and the body is coming along nicely,I will be following this along.I love playing with sheet styrene-I think of it as a flat pack of ideas.LOL

OK, the body is about ready for primer. I have added the drip rail around the roof and some side molding.

on to the suspension next go around. let me know what you think good bad or just plain junk....

At first glance (and if one hadn't seen your work before) you could be accused of crude and haphazard fabrication of the body. But in fact examination of the 1:1 pics will reveal that this is in fact a carefully considered, skilled and meticulously faithful rendition of the original!:D:D:lol:

Thanks, I think :)

There's still some work to do around the window openings to make them more 3 dimensional. The roof opening definitely needs some tuning as well...I'm sure more will be revealed once the first coat of primer goes on as well...

Because I have seen your work before it was definitely meant as a complement! But the original is very funky - which is part of its charm. So using your skills to capture that funk will also capture the charm. I'm really enjoying this build and will keep watching for more.

HAHA gotcha.

Thanks, I have never done this type of scratch building before so Im sure there are some areas where I could improve.

Thanks for the comments..

Started on the motor and blower set up.

The original car had a handmade blower manifold welded up from 12 pieces. mines a modified one from a Stone Woods and Cook kit

The two hole injector is made from aluminum and plastic and will have alum bolts around the edge..

Here's the induction unit mocked up

Pretty boring stuff really.

I still need to figure out the chain drive ;)

Thanks for looking...

I have to admit to being a real junky when it comes to fabrication, I guess that's why I like drag cars so much. They lend themselves to scratch building especially well. That front suspension is great. (I also like the support on the back of the roll cage - nice touch.) Like Dave, can't wait to see the spindles...<_<

Wow Thanks guys for all the interest.

Here's what I got done today. In a previous life My father and I used to build race car chassis so I was able to put some of those skills to work today..

All Scratch built Chassis Research TE 440 Chassis.

I know it's a bit off the subject, but I know where one of these chassis is, hanging in a garage, has never been used, it was purchased as a high school project, & never got any further.

I think a piece of 1/2 round strip between the two pieces of strip on the doors would help.

This thing is really starting to tighten up Shane.

I've been watching buddy.

Cannot wait to see some paint on it. Are you going for the distress/weathring and all? Please say YES!

I keep jumping back to the 1 1/2 pictures posted at the beginning of this thread to appreciate what an amazing job your doing at building a replica of this car. As was already said, it's not easy to model a rough and ready subject like this successfully. And so far you've got it covered, big time!:lol: Are those M.A.S. wire wheels at the front? They're almost too pretty for this build (but actually spot on when you look at the picture of the 1:1).

OK , well after discussing the progress with the owner of the Hollish car it was determined that the chassis was a bit too long. So I cut about 1/2" out of the chassis forward of the cockpit. I've also scratchbuilt a fuel pump and a mag.

Ive also added some height to the roof as More I looked at it I figured it was too "flat and wide" I hope this modification make this car more accurate to the original.

Thanks for looking...

I have been emailing a talking on the phone with the guy who is doing my decals. We agreed on the artwork and they being printed shortly. He wishes to stay anonymous and I don't blame him as he truly is doing this for the love of the hobby and does not wish for it to become a business. With out him this project would not have been able to be done.

I saw Miscalculation in Hot Rod, and I thought it would make a killer model. Looks like I'm right so far... even if I'm not the one building it! (Of course, that can be a blessing... )!
