roadhawg Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Well, guys, here she is! I know, I know...it's about time I actually finish something! Lol. Ever since my dad came home in this car when I was a kid, I've wanted to build a model of it. Since he passed away earlier this year, this is somewhat of a tribute to him. I'm reasonably happy with the way it turned out, although I sorta wish I had went ahead and opened the doors. Oh, well....maybe next time! Thanks for looking!

george 53 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Tooommmmyyyyy, Now THAT'S a COOOOL 68 GTX!!!!! Beautiful Job! Great color combo! Looks like it rolled out the dealers showroom!!! I remember seein them when they was BRAND NEW, They looked JUST like that!!!!GREAT BUILD!!! Edited November 12, 2009 by george 53
MrObsessive Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Now that's a nice GTX!! I too remember when these were new, although as a little kid I didn't know quite what they were------but I certainly heard them! Quarter window detail is slick too as Mopar had a thing about putting the weatherstripping on the front glass, as opposed to the quarter windows like everyone else did. Your Dad would certainly be proud! Are those Keith Marks decals Tommy? Those look very nice and solid!
roadhawg Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Thanks so much, guys! Bill, yes, those are Keith Marks decals. I got distracted while I was posting this and forgot to mention it. I also forgot to mention all the advice I got from Fury3....without his expertise, I could have never gotten the details right! I think the next time the phone rings while I'm posting something, whoever is calling will just have to leave a message!
Oldboychas Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Beautiful build.......A great tribute to your dad !! Charlie Bower
kyledr330 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Outstanding build! Love the color and the whole thing! Sorry about your father, great tribute. By the way who made that kit? and do you have another one? Edited November 12, 2009 by kyledr330
Fisher61 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Great looking GTX! Very, very clean and well thought out!
roadhawg Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Again, thanks, Y'all! ...Do you have any pix with the hood closed? No, I used the AMT kit hinges and glued them to the hood, since this is the way I'll be displying it. This makes the hood unable to close, but I made it so it CAN be removed. I've thought about painting a second hood to use just for that. By the way who made that kit? and do you have another one? It's built from the AMT '68 Road Runner kit. I added the body mouldings and made the grille from a '66 Chevelle photoetch piece. The taillight panel is a Keith Marks decal. It's hard to believe, but a '68 GTX has never been kitted. I'm sure it would be a big seller! Edited November 12, 2009 by roadhawg
Harold Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Holy cow. I just spent the last two minutes trying to pick my jaw up from the floor. Absolutely in&^#$@*&credible.

roadhawg Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Thanks again, Y'all.... How are Keith's decals to work with? Are they thin like AMT decals? Yes, they are quite thin, so take your time and be careful. Also, the whole sheet is clearcoated, so you'll have to cut each decal out as close to the ink as possible. They snuggle down quite nice with solvaset. I've used several of his sets, and I've never had a problem with them.
Janne Herajärvi Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Very very nice! Great details in engine! Me likes
Foxer Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 That's a beautiful build ... clean and great detailing!
Greg Cullinan Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 She's crisp baby. The motor looks excellent, not to mention the paint, color combo, stance and wheels.
camaroman Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Hey Tommy are going to bring this to Atlanta? Would love to see her up close!
Guest Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Tommy, you are one of the best. Your name should be up there with Gustavson, Covert and others. Your work is top notch! That build is nothing short of incredible.
David G. Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 A beautiful build and a wonderful tribute to your father. May I ask who made the kit and do you know if it's still available? I haven't built a muscle car in years and this one looks like something I'd like to work on.
voljeepx Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Great work! Your models are a true inspiration to us builders who hope to reach your status! Paint is beautiful and the detailing is awesome!
roadhawg Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 You guys are waaaay too kind, but I do appreciate it! May I ask who made the kit and do you know if it's still available? I haven't built a muscle car in years and this one looks like something I'd like to work on. I find it hard to believe that a '68 GTX has never been kitted. We had a '67, and a '69, and we had a '68 Road Runner, which this is converted from, but never a '68 GTX. I think the '68 looks better that the '69, but thats just me. You can build one of these by modifying the RR kit and using the Keith Marks decal set.

I've always loved the Dodge/Chrysler products from the late '60s and early '70s. They looked great and were faster than most comparable Ford and GM cars. My mom had a gold '68 Coronet 440 sedan that she scared the tar out of her. It had the 383ci Police Interceptor. I've always wanted to build one.
Ron Hamilton Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 You did an absolute, wonderful job. I love it!
Daniel Lynch Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Very nice built! Rarely seen an 68 GTX, no kit, no resin conversion, you say then you use the MCG 66 Chevelle photoetched grill to made your GTX grill, i like to see, if is possible, an close look of your griil, me too i have an 68 GTX project and the grill built stopping me! Bravo for your awsome built, thanks in advance, Daniel
