disabled modeler Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Hey Ryan! thats going to be one sweet truck! really cool!
crispy Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Hey Ryan, I'm a little late to your party. All I can say is WOW. You make it look easy. In fact you make it look like anyone could do this. What a cool concept and great tutorial. I really look forward to seeing this. Chris
Chuck Most Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I'm going to have to pick up a few more C-cab kits now... I've been poking around on your Fotki page, and I've gotten all kinds of ideas!
RyanSilva Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 LOL it's a disease Chuck! I'm back on this thing.. And Today I started the bed. Uses Don Mills diamond plate plastic, this stuff is awesome! Still some filling and sanding needed, along with some under structure and lights to add, before I pull a mold off it
falcongeorge Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 The weathering on those wheels is amazing.
rustybill1960 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 AWESOME BUILD MAN !!!!!!! Love your detailing really great looking stuff! Thank You for sharing! Later Russ
RyanSilva Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks guys I'm almost done with the bed..just a few spots to putty, some tail lights to add and some bottom reinforcements under the diamond plate. It scales out to be a 8 feet wide by 10 feet long. Perfect for a short wheelbase crane truck if you use one of those italeri cranes.
Speedster Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Great project. I will enjoy following along.
Kostas Parchas Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 RyanSilva, you have done very nice work on the bed! Kostas.
RyanSilva Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) Been a while since I touched this Ive been playing around with a better front axle. At the time I used what I had... But now I have the trumpeter ALF kit to part out! (wheels suspension and tires) the 4 wheel drive axle for the front, Its part trumpeter ALF suspension, and part louisville front suspension. Its nearly a direct fit for the Ford louisville chassis's from AMT. (dump, tractor and box truck) The diff is nice and slim so it should clear most engine oil pans. It isnt replicating anything exactly, just a basic medium duty front axle (6,000-10,000lb). Its kind of a rarity in the resin world..aside from the KFS unit for doing a heavy truck. I still got to build a transfer case and the axles and knuckles/spindles. Once those are done, I'll start pulling a mold off it. Anyone know of a kit to serve a good base for a decent size transfer case? Edited May 25, 2010 by RyanSilva
Paul B Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Nice use of parts Ryan. Good looking tires and wheels. There are some resin transfer cases out there. Or you can modify the pump transmision from the AMT ALF kit.
RyanSilva Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 Thanks Paul! That is a great idea, I got one around here somewhere I'll look into it!
cam Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 plaskit sells a transfer case, it is a aux trans from the amt kenworth. And AITM has a transfer case for $3.00. It looks like it could be Mack
falcongeorge Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I am following this one with a LOT of interest. Very cool build.
coopdad Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Ditto, watching with great interest. Have always loved your weathering. Can't wait to see more. John
RyanSilva Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 John how is big Oly coming along? Did the wheels end up working for you? And thank you! Its been a while since I painted anything, I gotta pickup the brush and sponges again sometime soon! hehe.
coopdad Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Oly is going slowly but wheels worked out great! I will post an update soon. Don't steal your thunder with such a great project. John
impcon Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 That little truck is going to be an AWESOME one of a kind build!!! I love those old Ford cab overs - the local packing house had a fleet of them when I moved here to this area and they were only driven in the summer! Talk about rust free!!! I admire your craftsmanship and determination - and creativity.. this will be one sweet build! Hang in there - don't lose focus and please keep postingthose pictures for the rest of us who do not share your talent or abilities. Guys like you inspire and challenge the rest of us! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experttise.
RyanSilva Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Hi Justin, I'll be back on it when it starts snowing up here in the northeast. Happens every year..it really gets me pumped up hehe! I got a few changes to make to it, mainly with the suspension and chassis. Should work out well when I update. Hay Ryan thats one very cool ford!!! looking forward to the finished truck Q where did you get the bud wheels and tires(with the new tread pattern)??? I would not mind getting a few sets for my upcoming projects. Thanks later PaulT
RyanSilva Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 Thanks! The bud wheels and tires are my own resin castings, I only have the rears wheels available right now. The fronts are being reworked, as are the tires.
Danno Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Nice! I don't know how I managed to miss this thread previously, but glad I found it now. Good stuff so far; looking forward to more! PS: Glad you're not waiting for it to snow here in Phoenix, we'd never see the end of this build!
mistermodel Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 What about a monster truck transfer case?
RyanSilva Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 I have the transfer case sorted out actually! I'll do a update soon as I gather up my parts to take pics of.
