MADmodelDOCTOR Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 As a longtime smoker, I would say don't use tobacco at all, if you haven't started. I would strongly urge you not to smoke. later,Kenny
Corvette.Jeff Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Dont worry guys, im not picking up smoking, i find smoking nasty, my moms smoked since she was 16(shes over thirty now, i try to get her to quit every day) almost all my family smokes. I was just wanting to try it just to try it, its like all teenage boys do, we try things, dont ya'll rememmber being a teen saying, i wonder what beer tastes like? lol its like that, except i dont like beer. I didnt catch my post soon enough before harry closed it to reply, iv'e tryed cigarrets before and didnt like them then threw them away, it was a cheap pack of camels. What got me started on this is me and a couple of friends were talking about "those old guys" that smoke those big cigars, then we started talking about getting one to try. just some juvenaille delinquacy(spelling?) edit: i couldnt start smoking anyways, 1. my mom would kill me. 2. i skate, bmx, ride ten miles a day, and play drums in a band, i need good clean lungs Edited November 24, 2009 by ThatOneEmoKid
Harry P. Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 i skate, bmx, ride ten miles a day, and play drums in a band, i need good clean lungs That's right! I know that a lot pf people smoke... but I'll bet that most of them wish they didn't. It's a nasty, expensive, and maybe even a deadly habit, and once you get started, it's very hard to stop. Do yourself a big favor and stay away from it. There's absolutely nothing to be gained from it, and potentially everything to lose. I locked your previous thread because it was off topic... but I'm going to leave this open, because you've shown some good common sense... and maybe some other members will read this and realize the harm they can do to themselves if they smoke (or start to smoke).
Corvette.Jeff Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Harry,i dont plan to start smoking ever! I know its a bad habbit, and its deadly, and it costs alot.
Nick F40 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 what if you don't inhale and just enjoy the taste and smell B)
george 53 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Nick that's like Bill Clinton sayin he didn't INHALE when he tried smokin pot. Yeah, RIIIIGHT! Then why even TRY it???
James Flowers Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Do not drink alcohol . Do not eat fast food. Do not eat meat. Do not eat fried foods. Just do only what you are told to do. Eat only foods that are approved for good health. Follow all guide lines for healthy living. That way you can live long and prosper. Our government needs you to be healthy. They need you tax dollars. Because you will be lucky if you have any health insurance when you get sick.
Scott H. Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Nick that's like Bill Clinton sayin he didn't INHALE when he tried smokin pot. Yeah, RIIIIGHT! Then why even TRY it??? Nahhh... He didn't inhale, but I'm not saying nothin about him funnelin the bong water! Do not drink alcohol . I'll agree with you about the HIGH cost of health insurance, but as for the rest I'm going to refer to the joke below... I recently picked a new primary care doctor . After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?' He asked 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?' 'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!' Then he asked 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?' I said 'No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' 'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't.' I said. He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?' 'No' I said He looked at me and said,.... 'Then, why do you even give a ######??' -Scott H.
Ryan Quantz Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 What's wrong with eating meat....? You know... My mother is an R.N. She's been in hospitals, ERs, Rehab. Hospitals for over 30 years. She's seen smokers live to be 100 and health-nuts drop dead from heart attacks at 36. All the healthy diets, exercise and healthy living in the world doesn't guarantee you anything. With that said, quitting smoking is tough. I'm there right now.... I'm young, so when I quit I'll have a lot of life to enjoy... Smoke-free! But, it will be a COLD day [you know where] when they take my Whiskey from me.
Zoom Zoom Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 what if you don't inhale and just enjoy the taste and smell As an ex-smoker, all I can say is "YUCK". Tobacco is nasty stuff, aside from the addictive properties which are epic. People who smoke cigars smell like they've been munching on skunks. I have no idea how they ever procreate.
Terror Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Thanks for your concern, but I want to die sick.Just doesn't sit rite with me to die healthy.I had a friend that never smoked and he's been in the ground for 6yrs. now.Being born causes death, pick your poison.I think Mustanglover1951 hit the nail on the head.Thats the beauty of living in a free(for now) country.Oh,don't live to close to any factories either.Oh,and please don't talk on the cell phone when your driving.Oh,and could we all just pick one religion. 58 Impala Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 At age 14 I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer. Then at 16 (because of peer pressure) I started smoking (really smart), I smoked for 15 yrs. I quit cold turkey 21 years ago, best thing I could have done. To all the young modelers out there, if you haven't started-don't. If you do smoke-quit, you'll be glad you did.
Eshaver Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Hey Emo , as a recovering Alcoholic , drug user and smoker , it aint worth the hassles man .......... I spent my time in the local jails in my youth , never did any serious time till I moved to Los Angles where I was told either go to A A and dry out or have a felony . I went as directed by the court and dried out Cold Turkey . I still smoked and that in itself led to the health issues I suffer from today . E- mail me direct at my Yahoo , i'll give you the details of the Texas Penal System ! edshaver@ymail . com Ed Shaver
modeltrucker Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 THE only way to safely smoke is take your car to the drag strip and smoke the tires off. james litteral
Rider Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 THE only way to safely smoke is take your car to the drag strip and smoke the tires off. james litteral Now that's some great "tasting" smoke. Probablly still not as bad for you as a cig.
BigGary Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Now that's some great "tasting" smoke. Probablly still not as bad for you as a cig. While its true that some smokers die at advanced age, and some "health nuts" die at a young age, perhaps its really about quality of life and cognitive (brain) function. Who wants to be old while suffering from emphysema, arthritis, COPD, Alzheimer's, Glacouma, overweight, and diabetes? All of these can be prevented or minimized by a healthy life stlye that includes not smoking, eating a healthy diet, exercise, and avoiding alcohol. Besides, at the price of cigarettes, that's about one kit a week. I take no prescription meds at age 60. My twin brother takes 3 prescription meds, has emphysema, hasn't held a job in years, and struggles to buy his beer. He had to give up smoking when he got emphysema. Gary
JamesW Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I smoke, and have for almost 10 years. HOWEVER, because of HEALTH, price and the sake of my children my wife and I are going cold turkey as of the New Year. I personally can go without if need be (I pretty much only smoke if I'm stressed or EXTREMELY bored). We have decided to finally quit all together. It's a NASTY habit I wish I had never picked up.
MrObsessive Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Interesting thread about smoking. I remember in the early '70's when I was in Junior High School, I thought I would be a cool kid and take up smoking. My Dad always smoked, so I figured he's in good shape so it shouldn't hurt me any. I was around 12 years old at the time. A kid in class sneaked me a couple cigarettes, and I went home and tried the first one before my Dad would come home from work. Needless to say, I coughed so HARD that I literally could see stars before my eyes! That cured me from ever touching another cigarette again! BTW, my Dad a few years ago, had part of his lung removed.......more than likely due to smoking. It wasn't cancer, just dead cells. He's almost 77 years old now and can't walk a few yards without being out of breath. So it's just as well I NEVER picked up that habit looking back! Edited November 24, 2009 by MrObsessive
cnaind Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Those of us who are certifed old farts probably remember hearing at some time that cigarettes were bad, but cigars were OK. This was probably due to all the old timers out there who always seemed to be puffing on a cigar; ie the George Burns crowd. My grandfather was part of that group & he also lived to a ripe old age. I enjoy a good cigar a couple times a year with no ill effects. Like anything else, it requires some self control. What brand would I recommend? Either Onyx, La Aurora or if you can find them Fidalgo Negro. So pour yourself some 30 year single malt & kick back.
RJWood Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Hey Emo, Did you ever see that episode of "Seinfeld' were Kramer starts a smokers lounge in his apartment? after a couple of days his face was ashy gray his teeth are yellow and he is Hideous looking. That is were smoking will take you. Besides, all the HOTTIES like guys that don't smoke, that should be all the motavation you need to never start. I told my Son if I ever catch him smoking I would break his arms. He never has. Don't make me come over there and straighten you out. Please bro. just forget about it. Ron
jeffb Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 well, im not one to climb up on a soapbox..however, as im now dealing with my moms failing heatlh, i feel the need.. she started smoking around 10. she smoked up till she had a major stroke about 2 yrs ago. she was 68 at that time and the docs tied the stroke to her smoking. but for the last 15 yrs she suffered from all the problems assciociated with smoking, including a fun little disease called renards syndrome which causes your finger and toe nails to rot and fall off. and as an aside, i have asthma and am elergic to cigerette smoke which made it fun growin up in a house filled with a blue haze...
MikeMc Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Enough of all the soapboxers... If Emo wants to he will...if he doesn't he won't. I quit smoking cause a pack went up to 50 cents..... yep it is bad, stinky and all of the other facts quoted above BUT REMEMBER THIS IS THE USA....AND WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SMOKE AND DIE!!! Then again when we look at whats in our water.....smoking might be the lower risk!!! one last word....Cohiba http://www.thompsoncigar.com/product/CIGAR...344/pc/8335.uts
Joe Handley Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I've been smart, only thing I've ever smoked are 1:1 car tires and RC Car electronics (Some of you that went to I-Hobby may have seen me do that on my Comp Rig )
Nick Winter Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 one thing no one mentioned is that it'll mess with your models, turns chrome yellow so I've heard.
scummy Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 G,day , here in australia smokes cost up to $20.00 a pack , so it's a choice of smokes or models ? For me ? the addiction to the smell of fresh plastic wins ! HA HA HA ,cheer's.
