tuffone20 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) I'm building a AMT '69 Galaxie and I've painted it Testors One Coat lacquer Root Beer and I'm kind of stuck on what color to paint the interior? I also used the optional hood scoop and am thinking about painting just the scoop matte black? Here's some pics of it and give me your thoughts please. Thanks, Marty Edited November 15, 2010 by tuffone20
kustoms Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 It really all depends on what style you build Are going close too stock or high tech Foose style ? ethier way Tan is defanatly the way too go for the interior Black is too dark and hides the details on such a small model car You could even two tone the interior with the tan and body color if you'd like The rootbeer color would haft too have some flat on top of it too cut the gloss Hope this helps? Its your model do it any way you like Its gonna be very nice what ever you choose keep up the great work! Bud Ellis Kustoms
Eric Stone Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I'd say tan, tan & white, tan & root beer, light gray & white, or maybe black if you use different finishes (flat, semi-gloss) in different areas to bring out the details. I think the hood scoop looks ok as-is, but flat black might look ok too...
John Truby Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 First, I love the color you have chosen to paint it. Second, if it were my build, I would choose Light Ivory with a semi-gloss clear over it. Tan, semi-gloss white are good choices too. Look foward to seeing it completed. John
randx0 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I vote for a red interior!also I think the scoop is to big to be painted black maybe some sort stripe combo or a large stripe that goes a couple of scale inches onto the hood .looks good so far !
seeker589 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 A white interior would be very bright and make the model stand out on the show table. But will it stand out for the right reason? I would vote for an off-white or very light tan interior with some darker brown or dirty-peachy two tone. It all depends what look you are after. If you are going for the 70s look - I'd do the white. If you want a more updated look - I'd swap the seats out for something a bit more modern out of a Mustang, perhaps. Good Luck - Hope I planted a seed of thought!
george 53 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) A desert tan, or light beige would REALLY set that interior off, with a dark shade for the Dash carpet an rear window tray I REALLY like that Root Beer, haven't seen it around yet! Edited December 11, 2009 by george 53
voljeepx Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Ivory white would look really good with the root beer color. Gonna be sweet however you do it!
David G. Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I put my vote in for a white and/or off-white interior. For the scoop maybe some "428" or Cobra Jet" decals on the sides to set it off, and/or a chrome strip or paint stripe edging the opening. You've picked a cool color for the body, I can't wait to see how the whole thing comes out.
disabled modeler Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 nice paint job! the color choice really fits the body style well, as for the interior color if it were mine id go with a white or tan or even black like the real ones were........the choice is yours....mark
Harold Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I'd have to say tan with brown carpeting and dash pad. Also, ditch the kit engine and swap in the 429 from the Revell '70 Torino.
tuffone20 Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 WOW!!! You guys are awesome!! You all gave me a lot to work with and and thanks for the kind words about the paint job!! It was one of those last min things where I was looking at the paint I had on hand and thought the Root Beer might look pretty good on it and I'm happy with the way it came out, but for some reason I just couldn't think of a good color for the interior. I'm trying to go for that mid to late '70's look and I found some Cragar's in the parts box to put on it. I wish I had another "428" and the Cobra Jet decals for it, but I don't so I'm using the kit motor and am using the air cleaner from the '34 Ford pickup. I wish I had more time to work on this one, but I'm trying to get it done for tomorrow nights club meeting!! I had most everything else done on it and am hoping I can spend the rest of the day working on it and finishing it on time. Again guys thank for all the great info. Marty
bigphoto Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Although too late, here is my .02 cents. I like the idea of Testors Light Ivory flattened out a little with a chocolate colored piping
charlie8575 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I'd have to say tan with brown carpeting and dash pad. Also, ditch the kit engine and swap in the 429 from the Revell '70 Torino. This is actually pretty close to the factory scheme. I saw a nice '69 at a show a few years ago and took some pictures. The seats and vinyl parts of the door-panels are a medium tan, and the dash, carpeted part of the door panel, carpet and (I would presume the console-the car I saw was a bench-seat,) were a medium golden-brown color. A color like rust with a few drops of yellow or white might come pretty close for the trim. Model Master interior tan, with a drop or two of white, will probably do the rest of the interior nicely. Brian Fishburn Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) Prolly too late, but the idea of painting almost the entire hood flat black popped into my head. Leave a band of the root beer color all the way down the sides and front edge- say about .150" Carry the pattern over to the cowl, too. Reading through the ideas that others have posted, I'd say there aren't any bad ones, though. Edited December 12, 2009 by Brian Fishburn
tuffone20 Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 well guys I didn't get my Galaxie done in time for the meeting as I just ran out of time, but this is what I ended up doing with the interior. Let me know what you all think of it.
James Flowers Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 That interior looks great with outside color.
seeker589 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I really like the interior colors - they complement the body color very well.
Railfreak78 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Hey Marty! I was gonna say an off creme color for the interior 'till I saw you did it already anyway it looks great so far. The hood idea in my mind would depend on your rims. Go stock then maybe the black or keep it the color you have. Do custom wheels and add a color match stripe around the custom hood to match inside?? maybe some other key areas? Just a thought
David G. Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Good choice, those colors work well together.
george 53 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 WoW Marty, that interior came out GREAT!!! Looks REAL classy! Since you missed your deadline, you can finish at your leasure. Did ya ever think about the 429 Elimenator decals that come in the 69 Cougar Elimenator, to go on the hood? Just a thought.
MyBradKeselowski Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I like the color combo, wheels Are those wheels from the kit?
Harold Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 well guys I didn't get my Galaxie done in time for the meeting as I just ran out of time, but this is what I ended up doing with the interior. Let me know what you all think of it. Lookin' good .
Chuck Most Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Interior color? I'd be kind of torn between tan, red, or a dark burgundy- I think any three of those would go well with the color you've painted. (Which I love, by the way!) I'd have probably gone with a Cobra Jet-style scoop instead of the kit scoop, but you did a better job integrating the kit-supplied scoop into the hood than most builders I've seen!
