Phildaupho Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Is the forthcoming Revell '57 Chev Bel Air two-door post sedan based on the Black Widow or a previous issue '57 Chev?
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Anybody have this kit yet? The owner of my LHS told me that it comes with 20" chrome reverse wheels and baby moons!
horsepower Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Actually, it comes with both, & the stock full wheel covers, & they also fixed the molding around the rear window on this body, it shows real definition. But since this is a Bell-Air, & not a 210 I think that the chrome trim around the side windows is incorrect on the box, shouldn't there be a stainless trim at the top, & bottom of the side windows from front to rear?
RTK434 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 anyone have some pics of the new body and parts they could share? i know for the most part that the majority of this kit is the same pieces from the Black Widow and California Wheels '56 kits but i would like to see the new body and whatever "new" parts they have done for this. Dave I'm going to be picking one up later today. I'll try to post pics this evening if no one else does first.

ChrisPflug Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Both of those pics seem to be 210's........... Bel Air should have wide bright trim along the top and rear of the side windows Edited January 30, 2010 by ChrisPflug
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 this body and trim style means i can finally, after over 20 years of wanting to do so, build a model of Popular Hot Rodding magazines "Project X" it looks like i'm going to have to sand away the Bel Air insert but other wise i'll finally have a nice kit to work with. now where to find a scale B&M Megablower? Dave Project X!? Why, God, Why!?
2002p51 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Both of those pics seem to be 210's........... They are. I was in the middle of my first cup of coffee in the morning when I posted those. I thought he was asking about 210s. But they still serve to show the difference.
horsepower Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 So it come with the 20" chrome reverse w/baby moons and wheels in the pic? I guess the chrome strip at the top for the Bel Air could be faked with some BMF. Now I wish I hadn't bought the 150!! You don't have to fake it, the kit is a Bel-Air, just a sedan, not a hardtop.
Rob Hall Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I got my first one last week at the LHS, ordered another one yesterday along w/ another 150 from my usual online kit vendor. Here's some inspiration for a street machine build--on Autoblog today. 57 Sleeper
Exotics_Builder Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Yes it is a Bel Air. And there is all the trim for the Bel Air and 3 wheel styles and you can build stock or California Wheels version. There is separate chrome trim for the rear fin detail:
RodneyBad Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 are the side panels engraved ? Yes they are. Just got one today and WOW!! How'd they get all the cool stuff in one box?? Once ya take it out, it aint gonna be easy to put it all back in. Might as well build it.. Later
Exotics_Builder Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 are the side panels engraved ? You mean the body side panels? Yes. I'll take a close up photo later this morning after a conference call I need to be on
Exotics_Builder Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 You mean the body side panels? Yes. I'll take a close up photo later this morning after a conference call I need to be on Here's a closeup pic: I have yet to check the Model Car Garage 57 Chevy PE set to see how the side etch matches to this. I'l likely do that this evening
Exotics_Builder Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Thanx for the pix Gerry! Does this kit come with a lowered suspension or does it come with stock only? I wish Revell would have put the Hopster wheels from the '67 Chevelle in this kit instead of the lame wheels from the '56. I do like those baby moon wheels though. They look better in your pix than they do on the box. There is the California wheel and stock suspensions in the box. Check the pics in the initial post to see if that answers the question. Otherwise, I can do more detail later.
bigphoto Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Project X just got easier now I can do it as it appeared in Hollywood Knights Oh Yeah!!!! However I now have a Black Widow kit up for trade
Casey Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 It's a shame Revell created some nice looking, but way-too-narrow custom wheels and pairing them with these way-too-narrow tires. Who puts 19"x5" and 20"x5" wheels on their 1:1 ride? I am a bit bummed to see the Bel Air trim detail molded into the body, too, but this kit should be a consistent good seller for many years and a staple in the Revell lineup.
59 Impala Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I've been waiting for this kit to come out for many many years and when it finally comes out I'm very dissapointed. First, it has the belair trim molded on so if you want a 210 you have to file, sand or whatever to get the trim off. Next, they put in an automatic tranny instead of a stick. If anything, there should have been both trannys so if ya wanted to you could make it either way. Other than that, I like the kit. It's just that I have to find a three or four speed tranny to use in it. At the same time, this was made from the 150 Black widow I think. Well, that kit has the automatic tranny in it also. A real bummer. I was going to use the tranny from this kit for the 210, but no, it's an automatic. You can't even make a correct Black widow out of it. Well, that's my rant and I'm over it now. I'm just real dissapointed in Revell since they seem to be trying to make better kits fer us to build. I guess that I'll go build something now. Dan
Fisher61 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 The Revell Black Widow kit has two sets of engine halves, one with the Powerglide and one with the three speed manual. It should work in the Belair.

DUH, I'll have to check that out. I sure hope so cause I want the stick trany. Thanks fer the info. Dan
Lyle Willits Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I'm confused. You're disappointed in a '57 Bel Air kit because it has Bel Air trim molded to it? You can't buy a kit of a particular car and just wish that something else is in the box. If you want a 210, you can cut out the trim and replace it with plain sheet plastic, then redo the entire interior.
george 53 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Duhhh ISN'T the new Bel Aire kit popped off the B/W 210 mold? If ya want a 210 why not just but the Black Widow? I doesn't have the Bel Aire trim to begin with.
