Foxer Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) heheh you guys are cruel! I would never own a Prius because suspension is everything to me, but I predict we're going to see many unique, one off builds from this plain canvas. And a hemi in one of these would probably cause more shaking in Junkman's Hemi than the double pumper! Edited April 5, 2010 by Foxer
bad0210 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 a hemi? hope the gas pedal and brake problem gets fixed.
charlie8575 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Get out your water based paints, pour yourself some red wine into the beaker you made at the last find-yourself-through-pottery workshop, Gee, Christian, on this side of the Atlantic, most yuppie scum drink white wine. It, however, must be made from local, organically-grown grapes and aged in flasks made of sustainably-harvested timber (one practice I don't have a problem with at all, I happen to like trees, both in the forest and for projects, and would like to ensure a supply.) I do agree, though, that most of the whole green movement, in addition to just becoming another sales tool and a way to get us to pay more, has gone bonkers. Just look at many of its leading proponents. I'm very tempted to build a model of the truck from Duel and see if I can make a figurine of Dennis Weaver driving a Prius instead of a Valiant. Considering the late Mr. Weaver's leanings, it does seem rather fitting... Charlie Larkin
kingiguana Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 A Prius model? Once You open it,and start building it, it keeps building itsself, and then runs off the end of Your bench ! And it even comes with its own recall notice ! You then have to return it to the hobby shop,...................if You can catch it !
Eshaver Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 The word Prius to me brings on the worrds Pompus and Pious......... everyone I have ever met that buys one of these cars is always espousing Big Brutha Government and social Justice reform . That alone scares the bejeebers out of a Libertarian like myself . Ed Shaver
Tumbler75 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) Prius?? *(shouts to the other end of the house "HONEY QUICK GET A SHOT GUN AND A REBEL FLAG I'm GOIN' HUNTIN'!!!!" ) Should have done something like a Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio OR even a FORD ASPIRE if you wanted to insult us Model Car builders!! Roadkill2525 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 How to get the engine, driveline and suspension from this... into this.
Tumbler75 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 How to get the engine, driveline and suspension from this... into this. With a Mighty Big Hammer and Shoehorn! Along with probally several circus clowns, elephants and show girls with big headdresses.

But you never know they could have better quality then the real ones,What a waste,What is Toyota trying to make up there loses by licensing Model Manufacture's to make models Of the junk? Who in the h e double hockey sticks would waste the money on a Prius Model? What a JOKE!
Zoom Zoom Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Wow. I'm wondering if I should be posting anything I build here anymore, or if I should go someplace where my Japanese Kits would be more 'accepted'. Some of you have made it crystal clear that you'd rather not have ANYTHING new & settle for the same old offerings of the same old kits from the same old manufacturers. Great way to think outside the box. Some of the comments in this topic (among some other topics I've seen) have led me to believe that there is quite a bit of animosity toward "them Foreign Jobs". Personally, it's put me off from posting much of anything, as I guess that those comments aren't exactly "warm & friendly". Just my 1/2 cent, as I shouldn't have to feel like I am paying for leaving a comment... Yeah, I know how you feel. Some people run their mouths so much they think they're having their own private conversations while basically running people off with their own extremist and political views...and some of them should know better about including anything political...but they just cannot help it
charlie8575 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 This cartoon here was rather amusing. Last row, second from right. My link Wheelman: I don't think it's that a lot of people here like or dislike Japanese cars. I happen not to, but with Toyota's recent problems and the type of aura that the Prius tends to exude, as well as the vast bulk of people that seem to buy them (at least around here and perhaps other places,) it's a natural for ribbing and a bit of humor. I think you're being far too sensitive. Your builds are as welcome here as anyone's. Charlie Larkin
Foxer Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) I think the above comments have made me WANT to build one .. the potential is endless! I don't expect much detail of the running gear judging by other Japanese kits, which is too bad. Edited April 6, 2010 by Foxer
PatRedmond Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Me too. I think the above comments have made me WANT to build one .. the potential is endless! I don't expect much detail of the running gear judging by other Japanese kits, which is too bad.
Casey Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 This kit will be a huge seller IMO. Prius owners are very loyal, and Fujimi would be wise to market the kit in a 100% post-consumer recycled paper box, and since styrene is recyclable (at least at the molding location), I guess one could claim the kit itself is made from recycled plastic, too.

Tumbler75 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I wouldn't bash Japanese products because it would make me hypocrite. I worked for Honda of Marysville, OH, and I'm a very loyal Honda follower (favorites bein' the Accords, CR-X's and CR-V's). I've owned Hondas, Toyotas, Geo/Suzuki (Metro and Tracker), Geo/Isuzu (Storm), Geo/Toyota (Prism), Subarus, and various other li'l cars as I've not lived in the US all my life. Some here yes are getting a li'l "raw," to say, about the topic. I jus' recently did my part in recycling as I bought an old 1977 Chevy C10 Heavy Half Truck. LoL Granted it doesn't get 67mpg (at best I get 18mph highway) but at least it's not ending up in a salvage yard rusting and waiting to be turned into, possibly a Toyota, Honda, or Buick for that matter. I've sat here and laughed till I fell out of my office chair. Thanx guys! But I know for a fact I wouldn't be buying a Prius kit as there are many Mopars, GM, and even Foreign Subjects out there I want first and far worse.
Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I apologize Andy, I understand. I agree for the most part with the show car tooling. Even as a kid, I didnt build them, I built subjects that were real. I still think the Prius is a waste. I'd like to see a new tool AMX, or Barracuda or some classic that hasent ever been done. We're cool buddy.
Jordan White Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 You know, it is Fujimi so I don't mind that they are building a Prius. Now if it were say Revell or AMT, then I could see the facepalmage.
Zoom Zoom Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 You know, it is Fujimi so I don't mind that they are building a Prius. Now if it were say Revell or AMT, then I could see the facepalmage. Glad so see someone else who "gets it" Fujimi won't "waste tooling" on an AMX, Barracuda, or vintage American iron...it's not what they do. There is nothing wasted if something they make sells in their home market (the US buys barely a trickle of their production), that's all that matters. Forget the politically-charged bluster that trickles down to mocking people who like or buy something like a Prius to blaming a company for all the ills of the industry because they chose to do a subject that is popular in their home country (and also a top-seller in the US). We build model cars, so there's an inherent component of insanity in all of us, but sometimes it gets to levels that creates facepalmage on forums I should be crying that Fujimi is wasting tooling on a Prius when they (or Tamiya or Revell AG) should be doing the Ferrari 599XX or the 599 GTO that was unveiled today, subject matter that they do have history and track record for producing previous modern Ferraris. Thankfully I'm not stressing over that their absence...even though I'd drop everything to buy/build those in a heartbeat, something I would not do for a Prius kit. I don't need to fall asleep at my bench while the model flies off the edge to oblivion, though it might entertain the cat I look at the bright side; if Fujimi is making the effort to tool a boring car like the Prius, the hobby & the market can't be all that bad. Considering that this year folks who like modern cars are getting models of the Mercedes AMG SL63, Aston Martin DBS, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mercedes SLS, Corvette ZR1 Viper ACR, International Lonestar, life is pretty good Add to that historic subjects like the Academy Shelby Daytona Coupe, Revell '62 & '66 Impala HT's, the TV Batmobile, the Hudson Hornet and Chrysler 300...no complaints here, I can't keep up with them all.
Chuck Most Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) Some of the comments in this topic (among some other topics I've seen) have led me to believe that there is quite a bit of animosity toward "them Foreign Jobs". Even though 90% of the model kits you can buy nowadays are 'Foreign Jobs'. When was the last time you bought a kit with 'Made in the USA' printed on it? Funny, they'll complain about a Japanese kit by a Japanese manufacturer in Japan but not about an American kit by an American company that's produced in China! (And no, my intent is not to turn this into some 'Buy American' rant- I just wanted to get THAT aspect out of the way first thing! ) I doubt I'll buy the Prius kit, but here's the thing- I'm still glad to see it. I know there is demand for it, and those people will buy it, and that'll make money for the kit manufacturer, and maybe they'll use that money to tool up a kit that others who don't like the Prius will buy. (Like a '57 Chevy 210, or something. ) I'm getting bored with most of the 'old standbys' in the hobby- to me, ANY new subject is a welcomed subject in kit form. I don't care if it's a Toyota, a Ford, or a Trabant... If I think the subject is cool, I'll buy it, regardless of it's country of origin. That goes for the 1:1 subject as well as the kit manufacturer. Oh, by the way- you guys know the Statue of Liberty? Yeah- that enduring symbol of American freedom? It's a 'foreign job', remember? It was produced in another country (France) and just ASSEMBLED here. Kind of like our models, now that I think of it! Edited April 8, 2010 by Chuck Most
Billy Kingsley Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Who wants to place bets on weather or not somebody does a smashed into a wall runaway diorama? Me, I'm conflicted. I want nothing to do with a Prius, yet I also have a strong desire to do something insane with it, like put it on a monster truck chassis, or shove in the largest real engine I can find. (Real being gas or diesel) I probably will not do that due to funds or lack thereof, as it would require multiple kits...but the desire may outweigh the costs!

Eshaver Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Andy , don't give Billy ideas , he's liable to do one !!!!!! Ed Shaver
