Fuel Coupe Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Heres the start to one of my all time favorite cult classic movie cars of all time. I used the body from the AMT 55 chevy and the chassis from the Revell 56 nomad. I scratch built everything forward of the firewall. the front axle is soldered brass.the rear springs and perches are scratch built the rims are from Ed Fluck.. Comments are always welcome..
59-Desoto Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Yaaaaa now your talk en , old school hot rod from one of my favorite movies also. I'll be watching for more on this one for sure.
Scalper Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I love that movie. love that car. going to keep my eye on this one.
crazyjim Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Looking good, Shane. Appears you ran a bead of Evergreen around the rear wheel wels after you radiused them? Nice touch. Front frame looks nicely done too.
Fuel Coupe Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 (edited) Thanks guys, Yes Jim the 1:1's rear wheelwells had a lip. I will go in later and work the lip into the 1/4 round I glued in... Edited June 11, 2010 by TxRat
sjordan2 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Looks like this could become the best build ever of this one.
Bernard Kron Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Also one of my all-time faves. You are the one to do this justice, of that I'm certain! And so far things look great. I have plans to do something like this later this year so I'll be following this one along with everyone else.
dwc43 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Nice. Off to a good start so far. Are you going to leave the leaf springs in place or put in the ladder bar coil over disc brake rear like the movie car had? You can see it in the clip near the beginning where they change the slicks at the road side park after the opening race and cop chase. I started one of these some time ago and boxed it for now after cutting up 3 bodies. All I could find was the Revell street burner to use for mine. I don't think it will ever look as good as yours. IT's just not a good model to start this build with.
Wayne Buck Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 That is awesome!! My old tech school buddy and I used to watch that movie A LOT at night after school 10 years ago. Man, time flies. We always used to reenact the part when they were at the gas station talking to the kid... "396?" "454" "What kind of trans?" "4 speed" I used to love the in-car shots where you could hear the whine from the m22. KILLER job so far. I'll be watching this one for sure!
my name is nobody Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I loved this '55 Chevy in both movies it was in. Two Lane Blacktop & American Graffiti. Nice build up.
Matt LeBlanc Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Looks good so far. He'll do it right or i'll kick his you know what!!!!!
rustybill1960 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I like what your doing Man!!! Thank You for sharing! Later Russ
W-409 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I like this car very much. And of course in both movies (American Graffiti and Two Lane Blacktop.) How you are going to build that scoop? Is there any resin parts or are you going to build it from scratch? Very interesting project, so I'll be watching this one!

I'll do my best to get it right. Matt's a little guy but his like a spider monkey, wirey and quick
kylexgore Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 nice work so far shane. awesome car. heres a memory trip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZez1NS7Ptk&feature=related

Doing some work on it and putting it away to work on something else. Any website for the wheels, what tires are You using on the rear.
7000in5th Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Great movie, great car, great build. Just don't spend too much time on a tight, well aligned hood fit.....
Fuel Coupe Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Heres the next installment on the 55. I scrathbuilt the headers, built a crossmember for the ladderbars started building the interior panels and opened up the grill. heres a few pics...
Bernard Kron Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I ... opened up the grill. ... Yikes!! That must have take a very small, very sharp point, and plenty of patience. Beautiful work throughout, as always. I especially like the tubular crossmember you made. Very pretty... Can't wait for more, more, more...
ARTEMIS1759 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Heres the next installment on the 55. I scrathbuilt the headers, built a crossmember for the ladderbars started building the interior panels and opened up the grill. heres a few pics... Easy interior huh? Sheetmetal must be easy to replicate. Have never done it.
John Goschke Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Wow! Stunning workmanship... love the scale fidelity of the suspension work, particularly that front axle.
bigmikevee Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Wow, lookin' good, that is gonna be one nice Chevy, man, thinking about that movie sure brings back memories, probably one of the best car movies of all time, one thing I really remember is the sounds of the engine were right...for a movie. Enjoying watching the build, know it is gonna be killer when done!! Mike
ARTEMIS1759 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 The scoop should be an easy fab for the fact that there are no rounded corners. Will it have the sliding door windows too?
Nick W. Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I think someone should build that goat next! Would make a great combo.
