mrmike Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 WOW!!! This guy is talented! Fabulous car control! Thanks Tim!
Jordan White Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 He's a great driver. Him and Pastrana have attended the Lake Superior Performance Rally here in Houghton for the past several years. Was able to snag a pic with him last year!
Brett Barrow Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Nothing quite like the sound of a pegged rev-limiter!!!! The scary part is that Rob Dyrdek now has to do all that on a shifter kart, a la
mountaindewd Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Schnikeys!! If I ever wanted a f...fro..fo...fffor....f, one of those, it's now! I gotta go have a cigarette after that.
Modelmartin Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 That was thoroughly enjoyable! Thanks, Tim.
935k3 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Another fine example that proves WRC and rally drivers are the best drivers in the world!(Sorry NASCAR fans, not even close)
Ben Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I don't know dad??? I was just driving along, obeying the speed limit and the tires just popped!
mountaindewd Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Another fine example that proves WRC and rally drivers are the best drivers in the world!(Sorry NASCAR fans, not even close) I am a Nascar fan, but, will absolutely agree with that!!
Brett Barrow Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Another fine example that proves WRC and rally drivers are the best drivers in the world!(Sorry NASCAR fans, not even close) I'll be so glad when NASCAR finally dies its slow death and we get some WRC back on the Speed Channel!!!!
Zoom Zoom Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I'll be so glad when NASCAR finally dies its slow death and we get some WRC back on the Speed Channel!!!! You and me both. And it doesn't even have to be the Speed Channel...I blame them for the rapid demise of WRC (apparently it's not nearly as good as it was previously when we did get coverage...many manufacturers have fled the series). I will say I was more impressed and in awe of Ken Block's first big video when he was still driving a Subaru and was in/out of that hangar. That was truly mindblowing...the new video is cool, but the stunts seemed better before...maybe because it was so new/different?

That was truly mindblowing...the new video is cool, but the stunts seemed better before...maybe because it was so new/different? I was born and raised in Martinsville, VA. I must have spent 1000 hours at Martinsville Speedway watching teams practicing and going to qualifying back when it was free. My dad worked in the industrial park right up the highway from the track and would come get me anytime there was action going on we could get into for free. I even paid to get into a couple races in my time. Richard Petty was my childhood hero. Having said all that... I DON'T GET OVAL TRACK RACING!!!!! I don't get it, I just don't get it! I would sit still and watch exactly 4 NASCAR races start-to-finish a year - the 2 Martinsville races, mainly just in the hope I'd see our house from the blimp, and Riverside/Sonoma and Watkins Glen! Sorry for the threadjack - Gymkhana is awesome!
Junkman Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Ken Block's 2010 WRC results: Rally Mexico: 18th - Winner: S. Loeb Rally Turkey: 24th - Winner: S. Loeb Rally Portugal: DNF - Winner: S. Ogier Rally Germany: DNF - Winner: S. Loeb It takes more than putting on a show for MTV to be fast.
David G. Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 That man is an artist, like a dancer or concert violinist. As for the sound of the car, it reminds me of a chainsaw. I grew up "tuning" V-8s and, to me, those little engines will probably never sound like power. Still, very impressive driving.

David G. Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 a Cobra has nothing on the abilities of that rally car. Dave Still, given my choice between a Cobra and a rally car, I'd take the Cobra. Anybody with enough money could buy or build a rally car, but there are only so many Cobras left to have.
58 Impala Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I watch WRC and am impressed with all the drivers in that series. You have to have some large ones to drive on some of the courses they race on. I grew up on muscle cars and big American V8's, but I don't care what some of you guys think - those rally cars are pretty darn awesome. Driving a 600hp,awd Ford Focus would be a blast and probably scary as hell.

Pastrana is worse. But they are rich and have plenty of time/money on their hands to promote the sport(or something like it) over here(no one else is) so I say great and keep it up!!!
slant6 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I dont know how many gamers are on here, but, some of the racing in the not yet released Dirt 3 game is inspired by Ken Block. If Im not mistaken he also made the longest rally car jump.

slant6 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Actually the longest jump was Travis Pastrana. Yup, your right. Guess I was mistaken. Not the first time.
Brett Barrow Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Yup, your right. Guess I was mistaken. Not the first time. I think Block held the record for a brief time. Pastrana's jump shattered the previous record by almost 100 feet - ~260ft vs ~170ft. I think Block's record jump was ~140ft.
Dragline Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 The best use of.. A: 660hp B: All wheel drive C: A Ford Festiva D: Racing Fuel E: That banked track. Stunning driving in every repsect. When he went into that little walled off area and drove it in circles my jaw was on my lap. NICE E brake handle to. Easy to reach. Bob

If Im not mistaken he also made the longest rally car jump. I'm also a gamer, and there is also an online racing game that is in BETA testing right now that I'm involved in called "Heat Online". It was also released as "Project Torque", which went offline in late July, "Heat" has a few new features "Torque" did not, but has some race tracks that are similar to WRC racing and also has drift racing. I just wish I could drift as good as the video!!! Either way, regardless of my drifting skills, or lack of them, "Torque" was and "Heat" is a great fun game. Here's a couple pics off my bad boy drifter 1989 Mazda RX-7 from "Torque". By the way, if any other gamers here would like to check out "Heat Online", go to http://www.heat-online.net/ and download it. It's free to download and free to play, and you can still join in the BETA testing or it will be going live near the end of September.
Jim Gibbons Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Very cool...I used to do SCCA Solo2 autocrossing in VWs for fun, and would never be even 1/100 as good as this, but it did teach car control, and this is the extreme version. It's too easy to get a driver's license in this country. It seems to be more important to be able to parallel park and know road signs than understand the physics of driving. That's not to say that kids should learn all the things in the video, but knowing the basics of complete control would help make the highways safer.
