Terry Sumner Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 He killed himself in his failed Ford dealership in California. What a shame... http://jalopnik.com/5646242/former-drag-racer-commits-suicide-in-his-failed-car-dealership
Fuel Coupe Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 heard about this the other day. What a Shame..
camaroman Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks for posting Terry, I hate to hear when some thinks that life is to overwhelming to live. May Lenny Rest In Peace and his family be comforted!
Modelmartin Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 That is very sad. Like so many, I loved all of the Stone, Woods, & Cook cars and all of their permutations.
The Modeling Hermit Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 It's a shame that somebody that was as important as he was, to go out this way. Long live his memory.
Guest Johnny Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) Suicide is an act of cowardice. You cannot use a blanket statement like that to cover all.situations. Selfish act, definitely. Mostly born out of weakness of spirit! Now the person who commits a heinous act and then takes their own life to avoid facing the consequences is a coward! But then I would just as well see them do it and save the taxpayer the cost of the trial and warehousing their worthless buttfor the rest of their miserable life! Lenny Woods will have to face his maker and explain his wasting of God's precious gift one day. Godspeed Mr Woods Edited October 7, 2010 by Johnny
David G. Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Suicide is an act of cowardice. Suicide is frequently the result of a mental illness, usually depression- an emotional cancer that if left untreated is sometimes fatal.
crazyjim Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I once had a close friend who was wounded in Vietnam. He was actually wounded several times because the VC were using him as target practice to try and lure others out to help him. Amongst other wounds, Jerry suffered severe nerve damage to his left arm leavving it painfull and about useless. For years he wantedd to get the arm removed to aleve the pain. We were able to arrange the removal - and then he started complaining about something else. Jerry took a great many pain pills that killed him, despite the professsional counseling and friends trying to help. In his note, Jerry said he couldn't go on any longer. Jerry checked out but left his wife and 2 children. Jerry was a friend and a hero, but left in a coward's death. I believe the 9/11 people who jumped were trying to save their lives by getting out of the flames/heat/gases. No, I don't know Leonard Woods personally. If I had, I would have certainly tried to talk him out of ending his own life.
sjordan2 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) It's hard to know what goes on in a person's mind when you've been at the top of the world and things go to pot in this tough economy. This past summer, a local Pontiac/GMC dealer whose dealership was one of hundreds removed by GM also committed suicide in his dealership. Does this have anything to do with business? That's probably hard to determine, but here's an interesting article from about a year ago, commenting on the recent suicide of another Ford dealer: For car dealers, it's been a rough 18 months. Last year, Duke Gold of Speedway Volkswagen also killed himself. In fact, nearly a dozen dealers nationwide have taken their own lives, according to auto industry expert Nancy Phillips. Phillips deals with troubled dealerships and writes an online column. She calls it a tragic response to a desperate situation. "[Dealerships are] such a closed business, a family business. It's not a corporation with a multitude of people that are getting the same amount of pressure. It's very individual, it's your entire life," Phillips said. "It's totally horrifying." Harry P. Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I just "love" judgmental, self righteous people! Everyone is judgemental and self-righteous to some extent. It's human nature. If we weren't judgemental, we would have no opinion on anything.. and there isn't a person alive with no opinion on anything. That being said, sometimes it's best to keep our opinions to ourselves unless asked.
Guest Johnny Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I don't know if I'm still on your list, but aren't you being judgemental when yo put people on your ignore list because you dissagree with their opinion?

You have no idea the effects on a person of long term chronic pain or untreatable fantom pain until you have been there yourself. Even witnessing it will not give you a clue to what the person goes through day after day, year after year. There is little that councellors and even support of friends or family can do. I will actually drive a soul insane or near enough to it! No, your friend did not leave in a cowards death and you as his friend, if he truly were your friend should feel ashamed for thinking it. I think it is time for me to leave this one alone.
Zoom Zoom Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 You may now return to your regularly scheduled bleating ... Shall we invite "Captain Lipton" from the other board to join us here, since he lives to stir it up at every chance possible?
Terry Sumner Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Actually I have learned that Lenny Woods was actually the son of the Woods that was part of the tri-partnership of Stone Woods & Cook. And yes they were the first bi-racial drag racing team in the world!
Junkman Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Jim and Christian did either of you guys know Leonard Woods personally to make those judgments? do you think the people who lept to thier deaths on 9/11 were cowards and sinners? i don't know Mr. Woods either but i read enough about the situation leading up to him making that choice for himself to at least understand maybe why he thought there was no other option. do you really think too that he will rest in peace with the burden on his shoulders he was carrying while he was alive? Dave It says so in the Bible. Who am I to judge?
ChrisPflug Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 you said it, and you did it you judged Mr.Woods as a sinner and i'm guessing since you are such a devoted follower of the bible and God that that gives you the right? what's that song? onward Christian soldiers, marching on to war? so the killing of another(non-Christian)is not a sin, but committing suicide or taking YOUR own life is? that makes complete sense. Dave Hmmm- from the reply you're obviously clueless about theology and really don't seem interested in learning more about what you see as an opposing point of view it would seem like a good time to just drop it as nothing good is going to follow
