martinfan5 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Yay Me !! my lonestar kit arrived today, so now I can get started on the second half of my build
plasticbutcher Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Just checking in, every one's builds are looking great and I haven't gotten lost just need to get some "new eyes" gettin old Bites
martinfan5 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Getting some work done on the lonestar, the frame is almost done, the interior is done, just need to add a few decals. I have also made progress on the trailer, have got a lot done, havent take any pics yet
martinfan5 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 (edited) here are some pics on what I have got done, some of the pics of the trailer things are still in mocked up status for the pics Here is the observation deck Edited September 10, 2011 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 This is the generator compartment with the motosat dish, I am thinking about redoing the chrome finish on it, right now I used tin foil, but I think I might try some chrome spray paint and see if that would look better This is the lift gate with the holes drilled out for the taillights , but as you can see I did not do a very good job , I am debating on if I want to start over with the lift gate because I am not sure if I can fix it to make it look better
scale trucker Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 now that is lookin good martinfan5 have you pic a color??
martinfan5 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 For right now its either going to plain white or black, I would do it in Mark Martins team colors but he isnt going to be driving the same car next year. So I am going to finish it to where I can go back and paint in team colors.
martinfan5 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Well had a slight set back with trailer and the truck, went to paint and well all I can say is at least I can strip the paint on the lonestar cab.
martinfan5 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Well the trailer is re sided, I did a new lift gate as well, still have a ways to go with this one, its been painted white. And the lonestar is done, theres a couple of little things I need to still, the cab is not glued to the chassis yet, having the fit issues.
scale trucker Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 just need decals..otherwise this baby is done...
martinfan5 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Scale trucker- nice lonestar build there, what did you do to get the fit of the cab and hood
scale trucker Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 shave the points off the front cab mount,,and file the hood mount cross member..so the hood sets back more..
martinfan5 Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I did shave the front cab mounts off, maybe I will try and pull hood hinge off and try it, thanks
scale trucker Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 it is still not perfect but it is close enough that you cant tell that fit is wrong..
Danno Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Wow, Gordon, that green really makes the Lonestar pop! Looks great!
Danno Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Jonathan, Your Lonestar looks good, too! Try the shaving fix on the hood and it should snuggle in just fine. Looking forward to seeing it all decal-ed up!
highway Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Yes, great jobs on the Lonestars so far guys. I hope to FINALLY get me a couple at the Pittsburgh show tomorrow. I was also hoping to finish the Ford, but between 12 hr shifts 5 days a week at my new job and just not getting off my lazy butt yesterday and today on days I requested off just to finish the truck and not going back to the bench, it will have to wait. There was just too much to finish and scratchbuild and not enough time.
martinfan5 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) I went ahead and pulled the hood mount cross member off, and moved it forward, but its still not sitting right on the right side, but it looks better though overall Edited September 19, 2011 by martinfan5

martinfan5 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 That really looks good, and is really making me want to get another lonestar kit, I already have an idea for the color I want to do it in.
martinfan5 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 (edited) Havent got much done on the trailer, I added the reflective striping to it, got lights in the lift gate done, built the steps and a tire rack, for some reason this model trailer comes with a tire rack. I still need add the photo etched door handles , just dont have the right type of glue at the moment, and I have learned that model glue does not work well. Edited October 7, 2011 by martinfan5
W-409 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) I hope next update after this is going to be from chassis or engine... Anyway today I cleared the body, I'm pretty happy about the end result. I'm going to wax it next and then it will look better, hopefully. I almost failed the paintjob with this one, after clearing these parts I came away from the garage and wind turned it upside down. Luckily clear wasn't so yet that paintjob is now good yet.
