A friend was telling me that Revell and a TV show called Gears (?) were planning a televised national model car contest for next May. Has anyone heard about this or know where I can find out any info? I looked on Revell.com but didn't find anything. Anyone got a clue?

I have heard about this too. But I heard it was going to be during the fall. Seems like there is so little info and many industry people claim to know nothing. The hobby shop I used to work at contacted Revell and they played dumb. In fact the only place I have seen the announcement was on another model forum which was sent a press release from a promotional company. You would think something so big would be announced everywhere but there is nothing on Revells website or the Gearz website or on Speed or anywhere else for that matter. It just seems so strange that this promoter would pick that one model forum and no others and hasn't announced anywhere else no magazines not on the show during season 4 or anywhere. It sounds really cool but seems really fishy to me.

1st National Model Car Championships

Stacey is teaming up with model car maker, Revell, to hold the inaugural Revell/GearZ National Model Car Championships. With the help of some 2,000 hobby shops and retailers, participants will be able to enter online or go to their local hobby shop to pick up an entry form and mail in photos of their models.

Both Revell and GearZ are working hard to get the details finished on the National Model Car Championships. We wanted to give you a heads up so you would have enough time to make sure you have an eligible entry for the contest. The Hot Rod theme coincides with many of the vehicles built on GearZ, and with a number of new Revell releases.

Complete rules are available at hobby specialists nationwide and online at www.staceydavid.com. This promotion, a skill contest and not a sweepstakes, requires the purchase of one Revell or Monogram kit from a range of kits in order to qualify. Click here for a list of eligible models. We will keep you posted once the contest opens as to how and where to enter your car for competition.

This topic came up right after the iHobby show where the announcement was first made.........check back a page or 2.

There is nothing on stacydavid.com or revells website. I do agree that it has been publicly mentioned but it seems strange that nowhere has any information about it besides the guy who is doing the promotion for it. The hobby shop I used to work at doesn't have any information about it other than they heard about it at the ihobby show and neither do any of the other hobby shops in the St. Louis area I have contacted. When I contacted Revell about several weeks ago they told me they didn't have any information about it and I needed to contact my local shop because some information has already been sent out. But so far NO ONE I have contacted has any of this so called info. I have even contacted out of the area hobby shops and they don't have any info either.

Wow, I missed it when I looked for it earlier. Your right it's right on the front page. They must have updated it in the last week or so because the contest link and c-mas link were not up when I on the site over Thanksgiving weekend. But the contest is listed now.

All we need now are hobby shops that actually have the info for the contest.

The hobby shops will probably have the info after the 1st of the year if this contest kicks off on the 15th. From the info it says you can enter online so you don't really need it. What bothers me is that it's only for Revell's 30's 40's and 50's cars...........no Mopars. I started kicking around ideas after the iHobby show and was thinking about doing a 67 Charger but that's out.

I wonder if the next season of Gearz is going to be more hot rod oriented. Stacy does more trucks than anything else and only two of the 11 builds on the show have been hot rods. He has said on his show several times it's fun to build something not many others are and show wise he tries to stay way from doing more common things. It's funny that his contest would be for one of the most common classifications of show cars. Hot rods are popular build ups though so I can see why that is what has been picked.

Thanks for the help guys. Now I know what he was talking about. Too bad that it is only one entry per. Maybe that way I can get it done. LOL.

I think the list of judges makes this real!!!

THE JUDGES: David Carl Peters, automotive artist and acclaimed model car builder who produced exacting replicas of real drag racing cars for their owners and drivers; Roy Sorenson, publisher/editor of Model Car Builder magazine; Dr. Marc Weller, M.D., longtime contributor to Scale Auto magazine & an avid hot rodder; Drew Hiewarter, Scale Auto columnist & model making authority; Jason R. Sakurai, a longtime modeler & former editor of Scale Modeler magazine; and Stacey David, host/executive producer of Stacey David’s GearZ on Speed Channel, and a builder of hot rods and model cars (“Panelâ€). ;)

I really kinda irks me that we have to buy a new kit to enter. I have about six of those on the list. I mean if we sent pics of the unstarted Revell kit along with our completed entry it would validate that we started from bare styrene right? Seems a little greedy to me. And with a 40+ kit stash, it's hard for me tell the wife I need another for another online contest. Especially with money so tight right now. Maybe next year.

I can't believe it is being limited to the USA, or, more to the point, I can't believe they are excluded our Canadian neighbors and friends. ;)

I'm thinking you guys and guyettes buy a lot of plastic "up there" and it seems foolish. Wish I could change it. :P

But, they didn't ask my opinion. :)

("They" never do.)
