Guest Markus355 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Particulars are: Ross Gibson "Rat Trap" hilborn injected BBC. Was my first time using a RG motor, or Resin at all for that matter. Went together well enough i suppose. I Radiused the rear quarters for clearance, and used the straight axle and ladder bar set up from the stone woods cook willys. Scratch built headers from solder. added fuel lines and plug wires (parts by parks) Rear wheels and tires are also from the willys and the fronts are from the reisued AMT dbl dragster kit. Paint is Testors one coat lacquer "firey orange" decanted and shot with an airbrush. Has 2 coats tamiya pearl clear, and several more coats testors wet look clear, also shot with an airbrush. then polished with Micro mesh polishing system and Buffed out with my secret sauce pics! and for kicks heres my fresh polish of another recent build,
W-409 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) That's very good looking so far! I'm going to get my Gibson Rat Trap engine soon... That motor looks very great on it and paintjob is very very good. Color is just perfect. Engine detailing looks very nice to me. Like that interior too. Can't wait to see more. And one thing: That front tire is a bit too back. I mean that it needs to go just a bit forward. Edited December 22, 2010 by W-409
Guest Markus355 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 thanks for the kind words guys! Im very pleased with how the paint turned out as well. as for the wheels miko, when figuring out the position for them i centered them with the spring pockets in the frame, so they are believe it or not in the same spot as the stockers would have been.
CaptainAhab Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Now that's cool. The paint is fantastic. Wish I could get mine to shine like that...
Guest Markus355 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Minor update, i have since finished the wax job on the paint and have everything else squared away except for 2 things, Where how, and even if, to mount the radiator, since it is a purpose built drag car im toying with the idea of just making a water tank and using it since the big block takes up so much real estate. and im waiting on some bare metal foil to do the trim, then it will be done. in the mean time ive been working on my titan 90 and intl. transtar 4300 kits. have the gold base on the titan and the transtar is getting wetsanded today.
LAone Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 great looking nomad. im loving everthing about it. one question: on the headers, is that suppose to be header wrap and the ends? if so, what do you use to replicate it? thanks
Guest Markus355 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 the header wrap is just medical tape, you know the kind used for taping up ankles or wrists on athletes? tensor makes it.
Smart-Resins Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I am really digging this! Only down fall is the uneven injector stacks. Otherwise, looking very terrific! Great job so far!
Tedly Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Crower injections used uneven tubes on big blocks. Not sure about Hilborns, I think they may have been even. Either way looks cool to me!
Krazy Rick Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I'll be watching this one !! - Great look going here
W-409 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Now those front tires are better. I like the look now. Just got that same engine to my hands, now I just need one more '60 Impala, it will be gasser too. Your one looks very good, can't wait to see it finished. Did you have spark plug wires and some other wires with that engine.? I haven't but I'm not sure that maybe there comes no wires in the box. And other question- where are those MidWest Autoparts decals from, I have been trying to hunt them. Edited January 10, 2011 by W-409
Modlbldr Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Niko- The decals are in the 68 Firebird 400 kit. he Nomad is looking great. I like everything about it. Is the paint on that other body Rootbeer? I used that on my 68 Firebird. That Testors lacquer sure lays down nice and shiny. I sprayed mine right over the bare plastic. Later-
Guest Markus355 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 yeah its rootbeer. really? ive had no luck painting bare plastic with it. and i find from the can anyways it goes on way way too heavy, both those bodies were painted with paint decanted and airbrushed.
