The Modeling Hermit Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I could go for a 68 Impala version of AMT's 67 Impala. Bel Air/Biscayne version of AMT or Revell 58 Chevy stock 73=77 Chevelle from the old NASCAR Laguna kit Longbed and stepside versions of AMT' 60 Chevy pickup 75=78 Ford LTD Landau from 70 Galaxie 59 Plymouth from 58 58 Desoto fro 58 Chrysler 55 Ford from 56 Ford 55/56 Ford convertible from 56 Ford 55/56 Mercury from 56 Ford 54 Ford from 53 Ford 49/50 Lincoln from 49 Mercury
slantasaurus Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Only one comes to mind at this time: 1964 JoHan Plymouth Fury convertible/hardtop......Repop as a Fury(not sport Fury) separated interior pieces with separate underhood tin. Use the same body with excellent engraving it has. Steel wheels and same engine only without the holes for the axles. You could also maybe make a 65 Satellite out of the tooling too. Sure would be nice. JoHan ??? Seriously, they haven't cut any tooling in over 30 years........don't hold your breath. It would be nice to see a 65 Satelite from the Polar Lights 65 Coronet though.
CAL Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 JoHan ??? Seriously, they haven't cut any tooling in over 30 years........don't hold your breath. It would be nice to see a 65 Satelite from the Polar Lights 65 Coronet though. And the tooling that does exsists is in bad shape. Okey Spaulding, who purchased what was left after Seville Enterprises won their law suit in 2000, has had the money to refurb any tools after 10 years. What I have been told there isn't anything left to refurbish. It would take 100s of thousands of dollars to fix the tooling that is both damaged and missing parts. Then, the second part of the bigger problem all Johan tools were build and designed for a unique injection molding machine which doesn't exsist either. Okay there is some reminates of tooling left, but even if you could bring the tooling back to working order there isn't a machine to injection mold any kits from.

Maybe a '64 Fury and '65 Satellite from the Lindberg '64 Belvedere is more likely..but still unlikely given Lindberg's situation. I wouldn't expect new anything from Johan. Other than a few reproduction parts and the Rambler wagon, nothing has emerged from the 'new' Johan.
Rob Hall Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) I love these threads. While everyone wishes that Revell or AMT would do all these modified reissues, I just sit here and smile. Because these lists look a lot like my collection of kits, builts and resins. 1967 GTO, 1968-69 Coronet, 1970 Charger, 1970 Cyclone, 1970 Trans Am...got 'em. 1966 Skylark, 1971 Demon, 1972 Dodge Charger, 1968 Chevelle...got them too. 1968 GTO, AMT Matador X, 1970 442 HT, 1974 Trans Am, 1972 Ventura...check. While every one wishes and hopes, I can build these whenever the mood strikes. If I want more details I'll bash them with newer kits but most likely I'll build them all in their full metal axle glory. Most of these are builders, some are mint kits and a few are resin. While you guys sit and wait and ponder the what ifs, I'll be building mine. Now, now Marc..no bragging. I have all of those in my stash as well, mint kits, rebuildables, and resin. The idea of these lists is not what was, but what could be..I limited my list to variations of the recent (last 25 years) tooling from Revell..40+ yr old tooling is one thing, but some subjects (like the '65 GTO) would be certainly nice to see done w/ modern tooling... LDO Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 A new body for the Big Deuce. It could be a Tudor Sedan, pickup, '29 Roadster or Tudor, etc...
The Modeling Hermit Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I've noticed that station wagon variations, except for some Nomads are missing from the list. So I'll toss some in. From Revell's 53 Chevy sedan delivery, a 4 door wagon From AMT's 51 Chevy, the same thing. From AMT's 56 Ford, a Parklane wagon A Del Rio from AMT's 57 Ford If Galaxie Limited wanted to get on the ball again, they could give us a woody from the 48 Chevy sedan delivery. I could sure go for a woody from the 49 Mercury kit (Revell or AMT). AMT, how about a wagon variation of that 76 Caprice? One could go through all of the model kits and add a wagon to them, but I think that the best chance would come from Revell in the tri5 Chevy line. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 2 door 57 Chevy Handyman appear in the near future.

I forgot to mention wagons in my list... definitely been a popular subject of resin casters in recent years. I'd love to see a wagon from the Revell '62 Impala or a '55-57.
Casey Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 I think we were pretty lucky to get the '66 Chevelle wagon a few years ago from Revell, and we're getting the '65 Chevelle from Round2 again this year, but I think four-door wagons are a tough sell in general. Yes, they've become quite popular with the 1:1 crowd in the last decade, and that certainly helps, but I think new '55 and '57 Nomads are realistic expections in kit form.
Guest Markus355 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 someone - anyone to make a 39 Zephyr kit.
Danno Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Everybody get ready for a collective groan. I'd like to see Revell update the 2001 Impala to a 2008-2009 Impala. There. I've said it. Of course, I'd also like to see the 1999 Silverado updated to a current Silverado; the 1996 Tahoe updated to a curent Tahoe; and the Escalade kit revised to a current Suburban. Now those aren't so bad, are they?
The Modeling Hermit Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Danno There's not a thing wrong with your ideas. I'd like to see more modern "family transportation" cars done also.
ra7c7er Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I would like to see more modern stuff be it modified reissues or new kits in general.

All of those would have to be completly new tools, as very little, if anything, carryed over on them when they changed the bodies, especially in the case of the Tahoe.
slantasaurus Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Thought of another easy one, Revell 69 Charger Daytona to 69 Charger 500. All they would have to do is a grille and bumper.
Joe Handley Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Thought of another easy one, Revell 69 Charger Daytona to 69 Charger 500. All they would have to do is a grille and bumper. IIRC they'd have to change the front fenders and maybe hood too, I think the Daytona's used early production '70 Charger fenders.
brett Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I'ld quite like a 73/74 cuda should be do able from the 70 or 71 tooling, and yes I have the AMT promo style snap kit, at least it rhymes with snap or a 50 chevy business coupe from the 51 tooling
slantasaurus Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 IIRC they'd have to change the front fenders and maybe hood too, I think the Daytona's used early production '70 Charger fenders. I'd have to double check but I think the Daytona kit uses the regular 69 Charger kit hood, if nothing else they have the standard 69 body that would just need the backlight and trunk lid changes. Minimal changes for a new variation.
Olskoolrodder Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Among many others,I'd like to see AMT redo their 2nd generation Chevy S10 (and Blazer) kits as '98-03 models, and with extended cabs. Maybe see Revell update it's great late Mustang kits as a new 5.0L powered GT. If I sat and thought,I could come up with a couple-a-several dozens, hahaha!
Greg Myers Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Here's my three cents worth: 1) AMT '41 Woody to a coupe 2) Revell '48 Convertible to a coupe 3) Revell/Monogram '65-'66 Mustang to a coupe Edited February 3, 2011 by Greg Myers
aarondupont Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 How about AMT 61 Ranchero into a Falcon station wagon or 2dr sedan. Also AMT 64 Comet 2dr to a station wagon.
bigphoto Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've always been a Trans Am fan, but many of the earlier models have only been issued by MPC/AMT, and those are junk in my personal opinion. I'd like to see Revell modify the 1968 Firebird into the 69 Trans Am, the 1970 1/2 T/A into a 74 to 76 model, and also the 78 into a 79 to 81 version. I know that most all these years were offered by MPC, but like I said, those are junk in my opinion compared to the Revell offerings. If I remember, Monogram made a 79, but was a custom, I want a bone stock version and not based off a snap kit either. EDIT:Oh, and a new Type K Sportwagon would be nice, too! The bad thing about doing the 74-76 would be the rear window as that was the first year of the wrap around rear window.

Problem is, those would be basically all new kits...pretty much nothing in common between a '99 Silverado and a current one, same w/ the SUVs. On the Impala, only the chassis and roof would be common between those years.
Longbox55 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 IIRC they'd have to change the front fenders and maybe hood too, I think the Daytona's used early production '70 Charger fenders. You're thinking of the Superbird, which used '69 Charger front fenders. They did that so they could use the same nose cone without having to make it fit the '70 Road Runner fenders.

Or '70 Charger front fenders..definitely not regular '69 Charger fenders (no bumper notch). Edited February 3, 2011 by Rob Hall
