I've always wanted this kit & was lucky enough to be in a position to swap something for it.Built box stock with the exception of the stripes & roundels (painted) and using VRM decals.

I (we) need details !! How was it to build? I finally bought one and went over the kit parts and decided not to build it until I get a proper work space. I'd like to try replacing some of the tubing and soldering it. That's an exceptional build!! :(:angry:

NICE! I hope the kit we are supposedly going to get by Academy is that nice!

One of my favorite '60's road racers done up right! That shade of blue is especially striking!

I've got Harold Bradford's (HRM) resin kit of this car, but I've been too chicken to tackle it. Harold does such an excellent job casting and packaging it, it's almost like molesting a fine work of art! ;)

Jon, do you or anyone else know when this kit's supposed to be released? I've seen it mentioned, but have not seen any test shots or heard anything about it in a while.

Awesome job on an interesting kit!

I, too, have this one waiting for a spot on the bench, currently occupied by a Grand Sport (rivalry, even now and in scale). Though, I plan on using the FIA motor and detail parts from HRM. Did you have any issues with the vinyl parts?

Way to go! I just hope mine comes out as good as this!

I was looking on the website for the information for the Acadamy one but now it's not even on their site. I am beginning to wonder...

Tks guys, I'll try & answer the questions.

Erik, no not a high tech kit & I was too chicken to try & open it up for engine detail;

Mike, it was beautiful to build, went together easily (and I'm not a white metal fan, which is what the chassis & suspension is);

Len, stripes (and circles) are sprayed white, not decals; and last but not least

Andrew, vinyl parts were good, easy to fit & look good.

The stock decals are not very good & need to be replaced. Buy both VRM Daytona coupe sets, they are fantastic.

Hardest part of the build was the wind deflectors beside the windcreen, they were buggers to get right.

By the way Andrew, I have built Jim Hall's Grand Sport using HRM detail parts, modified the body and pan-caked the bonnet hump to more acurately reflect the 67 car. It's not perfect but it's a good representation of it. Also used VRM decals (I sound like an advert for them!!!). Might post it next week, trying to limit it to 1 post a week

Tks again guys

Excellent job! I've got the unopened box in storage for about 1 1/2 DECADES now-gotta open it and put it on the bench after seeing yours. Beautiful.

Very nice build Dave!!! Like a few here, I have one of these somewhere. I do believe it was a "High Tech" kit with the multi media parts.

I pulled my Daytona kit outlast night. Someday I plan to build mine as the Dan Gurney/Bob Bondurant 1964 Le Mans light blue version that finished first in GT and fourth over-all. I will certainly be needing some of those VRM decals.

I heard that there were some wheelbase issues with the white-metal chassis. Can anyone comment on this?

Sorry guys, senior moment, of course it is 'High Tech', just no engine detail like the 250 GTO a mate has offered me.

Phil, as for the wheel base issue you jogged my memory. I did have a problem, I think it was interpretation of the instructions. I was lucky I was able get it apart. By memory it was the rear suspension that caused the problem. If you trial fit it you should be right.

Build them guys, it's a beautiful kit. I just wish Accurate Miniatures had proceeded with their 289 FIA roadster.

Super job on the Gunze kit. I am one of those hoping that Academy do manage to release it again, never did manage to get my hands on a Gunze kit and they sell for a lot on ebay (too much!)

I got the Academy Ferrari 250 California kit recently, boxed as a European classic sans Ferrari decals, an interesting way of getting round licensing. I doubt it would stand up too well to the property law in court, if Ferrari wanted to go down that route!

Regards,

Steve.
