Mooneyzs Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Ok now to show you the progress I made on the air dams. I started sanding the filler piece that I added on the sides. Tomorrow after I get home from work i will add some bondo to them and shape them some more. Then I worked on cutting out the vents on the front. At the moment I am not 100% happy with them but I may have to remove the center piece on both and add some other strip plastic. I had a few issues when I was cutting them out since they were thin pieces. Here are the pics, although they didn't turn out that great so I apologize for them not being the best pics Over all view of the front with the vents cut out on the air dams: Here is the right side, Now I didn't finish filing down the center piece as to why you see the middle looks funny . the process used to cut these slots was to drill the ends out with my pin vice and I chose to cut the center out by using some sprue cutters and well when I cut the last piece of it out the force of it cracked the center rib and i had to glue it back in place, so I am waiting for it to dry before I can file it down: Here is the other side. I think I just need to do some more work to them before I am happy with them. I am hoping to maybe get a coat of primer on them tomorrow or saturday:
Davewilly Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Love the new wheels! and the dam's look great Chris...I think once in primer they will be what you are looking for!
Mooneyzs Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Dave..thanks buddy i appreciate the kind words and vote of confidence On the air dams. I think I am getting burnt out ion them at the moment...lol
futurattraction Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Your new wheels look really sharp and definitely match the 1:1s much more closely. I totally understand the getting burned out on body mods. I can't get over the hump with my stock body Fairmont and it's all due to finishing the rear wheel well openings to my satisfaction. Grrrrr
John Teresi Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Chris…….What`s really going on here?……..this build is "Rock`n"………I knight you as "Sir" Chris …….the "RockStar"…….we need to talk soon……..Big Brother,John
majel Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Chris your dedication to this build is just amazing, it is a phenomenal model of a beautiful car. I think "the Snake" would be truly impressed!!
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Scott... Thank you my Friend. I am so stoked about these new rims I got from Jim, it looks so much better now. I know how you feel with your Fairmount but I did make some progress last night that has gotten me over the hump a little with these air dams and i can start seeing the end result with them. Can't wait to finish them up today. John... Thanks buddy!! I don't think I am the "RockStar" I am trying to follow in your footsteps.....You know a little brother always wants to be like his big brother Jim... Thanks you so much for the kind words. Its been a long journey on this build so far but it has been fun. I have tried contacting Snake Racing in the past for some info on the car and if they could of gotten me some specific pictures of the car on their Facebook page and they never got back to me. but since then I know that Mr. Hendricks of Hendricks Motorsports purchased the Army Vega Funny Car from Mr.Prudhomme. My plan is to email the Hendricks Motorsports Museum and see if they can maybe get me some pictures and also send them the link to this build. It would be cool if they could pass the email to Mr. Hendricks so he could see it. I have always thought it would be cool once the car was done to be able to sit the model on the injector hat of the real car and get a pic of it and even set it on the ground next to it...lol
majel Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 That would be amazing and well deserved Chris!! Hopefully Mr.Hendricks or Hendricks motor sports would be receptive to that.
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Well Guys... I got more progress on it the air dams last night. I am pretty sure you all are probably tired of just seeing me post pics of the progress on them as I am getting burnt out on them but I feel I had a break thru last night with what I got done. It has given me that little extra steam to get them done today. I guess with getting some bondo on them I can see them starting to look more like the 1:1's. I have a little more work on them but I will get getting a quick coat of primer on them once I finish up a few small details. here are the pics... Here is the air dam front vents after i drilled the slots out. I wasn't 100% happy with the look of them and you know me. I have to fix it...lol: So I started by cutting the center out of the slots: Here is after i added a new piece in. sorry this picture is pretty crappy. but in person it looks better than when I originally drilled the slots out. May not look it here: On this Air BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH I also had to add a sliver of plastic to the front vent because the opening was just a tad too big so I sliced a small piece of plastic and glued it in place: Here is the back vent that was opened up:
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Here is the front vents on the right side of the body: The rear vent: I have added Bondo and they are ready to take shape: Here it is after sanding the first one into shape: and the other side, I need to sand the other one this morning and get some primer on. and will show some more pics in a little bit:
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Looking good. Keep up the good work. bobthehobbyguy

gasser59 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Sublime. That's it. I'm all out of adjectives that haven't been used already regarding this build. Looks perfect.
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Bob... thank you so much. John... Thanks Brother. Danno... Thank you Sir. Brad... thank you. I am sure there are a few more words...haha
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Well I got a couple of coats of primer put on the Air Dams. Happy to have some paint on them. I still need to go back and do a little more body work to them but they look pretty good for the first go around. Little Bondo.... Little more primer and they will be good to go. Here are a couple of pics:
gasser59 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Oh so right. PM sent. Edited March 1, 2014 by gasser59
MicroNitro Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Man you are patient, The tire hump/air extractors look fantastic. It is cool seeing some of my older wheels.
Mooneyzs Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Brad.... thank you John... thanks brother. Dave... thank you so much my friend. It feels great to be over this little milestone with these air dams. They were starting to burn me out...lol Jim... thank you sir. I would have to say that the air dams have tested my patients at times...lol I am really stoked about these new rims i got. It added a whole new depth to the build since they are the right rims and look just like the 1:1. I know of a few other builds where I could use these cragers on lol Sflam... thank you
Mister Twister Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Chris I went through the pages and looked at all the work you've done lately and its truly inspiring to see what you have put into this build.....GREAT STUFF!!
Mooneyzs Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Darryl... Thank you, this build is coming along little by little and was hoping it would be going a little faster than it has been but so far i am happy with how its turning out. I am making myself stay true that i wasn't going to rush anything because of what I had envisioned for this build and taking detailing to a level I have never done before. I appreciate you taking the time to go thru all of the old post, I know there are a bunch of pages on this build and takes some time to go thru them...lol
Mooneyzs Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Well Fellas... I really didn't get much done today on the build but I was able to scuff the body with scotch-brite and started to tinker with the body tin work that I need to fix as well as making some changes to the mid plate that the tin work sits on when the body is closed. But I have also started to think of something else to work since I need a change of pace on this build, it will be made from all of this brass shown below... What will it be.... Stay tined and hope to have it done in a day or two
