baddgass Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Lots of great work since the last time i visit your site. NICE BROTHER!!!!!!
Mooneyzs Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 (edited) Derrick... Thanks man!! Well I haven't even touched this build like I was wanting this week. Since I have been back from my trip I have been sick and fighting a stupid cold and just sleeping and resting when I haven't been at work. Anyway not much new other than I did receive my Mark Johnson 426 "Elephant" Hemi in the mail today. This is a very nice resin kit and I am very impressed with it. Can't wait to start working on it. I have been itching so bad to work on this, Hopefully I will this weekend. Anyway wanted to show the engine.... Mark Johnson's 426 "Elephant" Hemi resin engine: Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Fuel Coupe Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 thats a really nice engine. Does he offer a 392 engine in 1/16 to back date the f/e cars and bucks down racers?
Magic Photos Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Yes he does and they are great quality also. Even has a SOHC motor for you Ford guys I have 2 of them.
Dragracer Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Nice looking engine. Does the block come with the wire for the pulleys, or did you add them in?
gasser59 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 That is a nice looking engine. Thanks for posting 'cause now I want one.
my80malibu Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Hey Chris is there a web address for this Resin caster
Mooneyzs Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Shane... Yes he does and as Mike mentioned the quality is just great in these engines. Probably one of the best that I have seen. Mike... thanks for getting me hooked up with Mark. I am definitely going to buy a few other 1/16th scale engines from him. Richard... the wire came with the kit already in place. besided the wire for the pulley, there are wires in the block, 2 on each side to line up the heads on the block. The craftmanship is just gorgeous with this engine. Brad... You won't be disappointed at all if you decide to pick one of these up. Gabriel... Yep I can give you his email addy, its the way I got ahold of him. His email addy is: mjaafd1@msn.com and His name is Mark Johnson. Great guy to work with. I look forward to doing more business with him in the future.
Mooneyzs Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 (edited) Hello everyone! I was finally able to get back at this build today. Felt good to be back at the workbench and put some time into this build today. I pretty much focused on the headers all day. I can't tell you how many times I had to rebend tubing cause I kept having issues with it today. I am happy with what I got accomplished. I still need to build a jig to hold it when I solder it together. I also got flanges made which they aren't done yet, still going to cut it down to shape and drill holes in it for bold heads. All the tubes are bent and ready: Flanges started and still need to be finished, will cut it down to the shape I want as well as drilling holes for the bolts: Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Romell R Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Nice Job with those Header pipes Chris, as always you amaze us with your skillz
Mooneyzs Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 Thanks Rom!! Hopefully all goes well tomorrow and will have them Soldered up. It will feel like a big step done once I have them done and feels like I have been working on them for a while now...lol
Romell R Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I know how you feel Chris it was a big relief once I had mine done and soldered together too.
Dragracer Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 The headers & flanges are looking good Chris, keep it up!
Mooneyzs Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) Thanks Richard! Well I have been working more on this today while watching football and making good progress. I have got all of the fabrication on the raw pieces completed and now all I have to do is make my jig and solder it together. Feels good to have these headers just about completed, I odn't know if I want to know how many hours I have in these...lol Actually I do since I have been tracking my time on this build. Here are some more pics to show you..... Cutting my header flanges down to get them to the correct size and shape: Here is the flanges after they have been cut and sanded to shape: Drilling holes in the flanges for the bolt heads: All holes in the flanges have been drilled and time to transfer drill holes into the engines heads: Holes have been drilled into heads and bolts have been put into place to mock up: Alright, time for me to get back to the workbench and work on the jig and get these bad boys completed.... Stand By.... Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Dragracer Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 It as usual looks excellent Chris, "The Snake" would sure be proud of this build I would think!
John Teresi Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Chris......WOW!!!!.......your passion for modeling is really showing in this build.......VERY VERY nice!!!!!
Mooneyzs Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) John... Thanks for the compliments, especially coming from one of master builders on this message board, it means alot Well I was able to to get my jig build tonight. I used some Bass Wood and some Balsa Wood to make it and glued it with super glue. Not much more to say other than I worked on it pretty much all evening. I was able to get one of the headers soldered tonight and figured that I would finish the other one tomorrow since I need to get to bed and get some rest. anyway here are a few pics.... Thanks for looking I started out with figuring out where I wanted my pieces glued and cut my balsa pieces: Next, I glued my angle pieces to my base plate with super glue: After that I glued the long piece and the pieces that would hold the header flange in place: Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Mooneyzs Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) After I completed making my jig, I had to test it out and see how the tubing would lay in place: Here is a pic of the kit header next to the one I soldered (on top) and on the bottom I will be soldering that one tomorrow after work: Here is an up-close pic of the header. I am still in the process of cleaning the header up. I need to file and sand some of the solder around the flange and tube joints as well as cut the tubing flat to the back of the header flange and sand flat: I am feeling really happy with the results that I got from deciding to make these out of brass tubing. I think it is a big improvement from the kit headers. until tomorrow.... Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs

Charlie... thanks Bud, I am looking forward to finishing the other one tonight. Will feel like a milestone getting these done I have more hours in these than I expected I would. Now that I am home from work its time to do a couple things and then get back to the workbench and finish these bad boys up. See you in a bit Edited September 13, 2011 by Mooneyzs
Mooneyzs Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) Well I was able to finish the other header. Got it all Soldered up and they are almost done. All I have left to do is to shape the solder around the flanges and then they will be done. I am really happy with how they turned out. Just have to be a little more patient with some filing and sanding, then they will be ready for some primer. Thats all I was planning on doing tonight so only have one picture to share with everyone. The Headers completed after Soldering: Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
gasser59 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Chris ~ those metal headers are killer. With the way they turned out, I can see why it took you a couple of evenings just to get them aligned and soldered up. Keep up the fantastic work.
