Jantrix Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Okay, here's the scenario. There is a major sink mark or injection pin mark on a part. To address this particular flaw would require a great deal of work or perhaps finding/making a new one. The upside - the location of this flaw is in a spot not normally visible. A person would need to be a contortionist with opti-visors to see it, but it would be visible if a person was looking from every possible angle.. Now what do YOU do in this situation? Get busy with repairs/replacement or paint it and carry on? Just curious.
DRG Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 If it can not be seen under NORMAL viewing it isn't there.
vettecote Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 If there was a possibility of it being seen, yes I would fix it! Of course I would know it was there and it would bug me....Joe
Clay Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If it won't be seen I leave it alone. Mold lines I hardly do anything with. If they are really obvious I cut them down with an Xacto and maybe sand them down.
Mooneyzs Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Depending exactly where it was on the part/body. I would do the body work and fill with my evercoat 2 part body filler that I use.
highway Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm with the majority, if my VERY CRITICAL eye has to strain to see it, nobody elseis going to notice!
Erik Smith Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Perfect is the enemy of good enough. Sometimes you have to let things go to get something done. If you fret over too many things it can lead to burn out. I am guilty, though, of doing things on a model that will never be seen by anyone. I don't really know why. Some builds I fret over, some I don't.
Greg Pugh Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I agree. If it's something obvious, I'd have to deal with it. If it's that hard to see, paint it, stick it on there and move along!
Joe Handley Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 So long as it's in a non visible spot, I don't care if it's there when I finish the build.
Chuck Most Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If there was a possibility of it being seen, yes I would fix it! Of course I would know it was there and it would bug me....Joe Pretty much my sentiments exactly!
Iron Fist Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) I would fix it, not because it would bother me (if you can't see it then ignore it) but I would use it as an opportunity to refine my repair work. I voted 'paint and carry on" as thats how I feel about the defect described. Edited March 28, 2011 by Iron Fist
VW Dave Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I voted for 'paint and carry on,' because I'm finishing soo few models as of late...and something like that could stall a project with too little momentum. Right now I'm wrapping up a 'personal barn find' model, which was about 75% done but stalled and boxed up back in the 1990s due to a lack of wheel & tire choice.
walt francis Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If it's not a big red beacon "DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF"
sjordan2 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm missing something here...what's the part? Where does it go? Any pictures?
Harry P. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm missing something here...what's the part? Where does it go? Any pictures? No part. It was a theoretical question. (Or is that a rhetorical question?)
Harry P. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Again, I could care less...but you're talking contests so that goes in the whole super-anal realm... Aaaaaaaaarrggghhhhh!!!!!! One of my all-time pet peeves! If you could care less... then you must care to some extent. What you actually meant is you couldn't care less. Class dismissed.
Scale-Master Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Actually I have seen Mr. Taylor at model contests. In this case I think he really could care less...
oldscool Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Aaaaaaaaarrggghhhhh!!!!!! One of my all-time pet peeves! If you could care less... then you must care to some extent. What you actually meant is you couldn't care less. Class dismissed. This one has always bugged me too Harry. gus
oldscool Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If it can't be easily seen I don't worry about it. gus
sak Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 only you can make that choice. If it cannot be easily seen, I do not care. Like why bother to try to paint a carb a proper color or even paint it at all. Most time the aircleaner covers almost completely.
CAL Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Well, irregardless, it's all the same to me... what kind of nonesense is that?
