Very Nice looking Paintjob, even if it's still under construction. 261.gif I'm really enjoying the build, this is spectacular. Going to be real Masterpiece when Finished!

This thing is 'freakin' unbelievable ! Don't know how the hell you do it. Guys like you and John T. push others to do better even if we will never be in the same league. Sometimes I think some of you guys are from another planet. I have to go now because I have to throw all by model builds in the trash !

Thanks again fellas for your honest opinions I glad you all are enjoying the build.

I was able to do a little bit more to the body and add some of the shadowing to the front clip still have some touch ups to do so nothing is complete yet. anyways heres whet I have for today.....

I remembered seeing this concept on a computer image of a car and since the rear of my car was the same color I felt it would look good with the grapfic im about to lay down. So I started by drawing and cutting out my mask.... as you can see here I have mask and its negative (the hole in the tape) I'll be using the negative

paint031.jpg

Here the mask is placed on the body , once the body was completely masked I painted this area white then covered that with HOK Intercoat clear

paint032.jpg

Once the white was dry I cut out some strips of 3m tape and made this mask over the white then the whole thing was sprayed with Intercoat clear again. this is to keep paint from bleeding under the thin strips of tape.

paint033.jpg

I let the Intercoat clear flash for 15 mins then I painted the entire area Orian Blue

paint035.jpg

this is what it looks like once the tape is removed....Still need to add shadowing

paint038.jpg

Ok here it is with some of the detailing done , I still have some touch ups to do then its on to wet sanding and clear coat.

Cya on the next update I hope you enjoyed B)

Great Ideas! I need to open my mind and re-think painting concepts instead of using modified decals. Your build has me building a brass chassis. Now your painting has caused me to "invest" in an order this afternoon for HOK paints.

Rom... I am digging the new update and the graphics on the rear. It looks great and what an awesome job you are doing. You are making me think and get some ideas for my Pro Mod build for the future.

How long between the coats of sealer/clear do you wait before taping over the existing work? Do you think one could put a layer of decals down like carbon fiber and clear over them with some dry coats....before more following layers? Are the pre-mix HOK paints thin enough for spraying? Enquiring minds want to know..

Hey Jack... I spray a lot of the HOK and PPG base coats myself. Then they are cleared with urathane clear. When I spray the bases i typicall wait 10 to 15 mins in between coats. now you have to realize it all depends on the temperature you are spraying in and the reducer you are using. in hotter weather you will want to use a slower reducer and in colder weather you would want a faster reducer. reducers usually come in slow, medium and fast.

now back to the question of waiting to tape and spray the next color. after I get a good 2 to 4 coats of base I will then spray typicaly 2 coats on inner coat clear. inner coat clear is treated just like a base and i wait 10/15 mins for it to flash before.the next coat. I would wait probably about 25/30 mins for the inner coat to cure nice then i start taping out my graphics and repeating tje se steps until all colors are done. then after that i spray 3 to 4 coats of clear and then start color sanding it and polishing it a few days later. i usually wait 3 to 5 days.

I didnt mean to hijack Roms thread but thought I could give some insight on how I spray my paints. if you have other questions i will answer as best as i can.

Although chris gave you some good info I'll try to address a couple of the questions he missed. the carbon fiber issue is something I planned to use on this build, it can be done but it will depend on the type of clear you use, Im using Acrylic clear which will allow me to clear over my decals but even I had to make sure so I contacted my buddy Mark Jones and he confirmed that if you do clear over your decals you should apply a dry fine coat first then allow it a few hours curing time before adding anymore clear. so to answer your question: Yes you can do it. I just suggest you do a test run first.

It takes HOK 15mins to flash , if youre planning on taping on it I would give it time to cure not just flash which take between 2-3 hours.

And as for the pre-mixed HOK I wouldnt know because all I have ever used is the kind you have to mix.

Rom... I have shot PPG urathane clears over my decals with no problems at all. but I do as you said and I mist the first coat or two before laying any heavier coats. And with clears I usually allow 20/25 mins between coats when I spray. I have some of the same airbrush sized paints from HOK and I have reduced them every time I have shot it. 50% paint 50% reducer. I am sure you could probably spray them.

Hey thanks for the link Chris....

I got the shadowing and rivets painted and completed most of the touch ups I'll go back over all of it before i shoot the first coat of clear then I'll wet sand and apply some decals then its top coat and sand again.
