SuperStockAndy Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 How mad do you get when you build? Today I was TRYING to get the windows put in on my Dart but they kept felling out...I was REALLY close to breaking the windows and boxing it.... Feel free to share any experiences of you getting mad, and breaking anything...
ra7c7er Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I have continuously tried builds that are way way above my skill level and I often get mad enough to just junk the project. I don't though and just set it off to the side and work on something simple for a bit.
jeffb Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 just step out for a few..its not like the patients gonna die on the table....
Harry P. Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 If I get to a point where things are not working the way I want them to, I just stop and leave it alone for a while. It's a hobby... it's supposed to be fun, not a hassle. Remember?
LAone Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 honestly, i dont let myself get to that point. cause as harry said, its suppose to be a fun hobby. so if i feel im getting mad, i just put it down and do or build something else. that is why i like to keep 2 or 3 WIP's on my bench.
RancheroSteve Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Occasionally frustrated or discouraged, maybe, but I don't recall ever being angry. I strive to make my models as good as I can make them, but I build for the enjoyment of it. If it gets to be too much, I just get up and walk away - go do something else.
jas1957 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 As a couple others here have said, if a build is going that bad I just walk away. Sometimes for an hour, sometimes a week. I have found that works wonders, I am able to come back with a fresh prospective & attitude. If a simple out of the box build takes 6 months so what, I find in the long run the results are worth it.
george 53 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I'm the same way, Luis. I got at least 3 different things goin at once! Probably why I never finish anything!!! But yeah, If one is gettin to me, I'll just walk away or just turn to another kit. It IS supposed to be fun, NOT a chore! B)
Harry P. Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 If your hobby is causing you stress... you're obviously not doing it right!
SuperStockAndy Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 It doesn't stress me out or anything...I just have a VERY low temper. I try my hardest not to break things...
ewaskew Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I don't get mad about it either. As for installing glass try some masking tape that helps.
Rob McKee Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 For the most part I am calm and cool while building but I have to admit I have lost it when I have made a stupid mistake. Some kits remain in boxes and I doubt I'll return to them.
XJ6 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Get Angry !...well this is why i have Boxes of PARTS.. No not really..Replace the Anger for the Challenge...this is why i like to build...all for the challenge..sure it can be frustrating at times...but then again what's not...Ha..
Malard Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I get frustrated alot when doing a build and it dosent come out how I visioned it. But I just turn up the iTunes put in a pinch of grizzly green and go back at it!
seeker589 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 If your hobby is causing you stress... you're obviously not doing it right! LOLs! I all but destroyed a Corvette in junior high. I saved it and it got a honorable mention at a local contest - back in 1980 or so. Just walk away! Use every obstacle, trouble, set-back as a learning experience.
CAL Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) It is rare that I get mad at a model, and when I do I just walk away and do something else. According to my model bench I have gotten mad exactly 14 times. Edited July 12, 2011 by CAL
Jordan White Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 "Hulk can't glue on rear view mirror! Hulk smash model!"
disabled modeler Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I get challenged by builds at times too...the best thing I've found to do is take a little break and look over the problem for an idea or solution for it. In time it will come to you.
SuperStockAndy Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 "Hulk can't glue on rear view mirror! Hulk smash model!" Trust me, that's exactly what was on my mind earlier LOL
Darin Bastedo Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Angry at a model? Never. The model is an inanimate object. This is a fun hobby for me, but it remails fun because I do a lot of test fitting of every part. By the time I have everything prepped painted and I'm reaching for glue I must have test fit every part 50 times. I tend to know how well it will go together. the day I get angry at a model is the day I quit building them.
Joe Handley Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I've only had two I've nearly frustrated enough to send flying and that was a long time ago. Now if I'm working on somehting and drop a small part or an important screw or nut on the floor, then I say things that can't be posted here I have to agree that if something's going wrong, step away, especially if it's late at night just go to bed and start fresh the next day. WOrks well on styrene models and RC stuff
Jordan White Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 There was one time that I had the opposite happen: dropped my finished model on the floor and it broke, anger of course ensued (then of course a rebuild, luckily it was one of my simpler builds).
brett Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Not so much at the model (frustrated at times, usually glue sticking to me not the parts its supposed to be bonding), but angry for sure at the guy who sold me a :mint open but everything there" $ 50 early funnycar kit that's missing the windscreen and interior body supports not to mention the badly twisted body . I do have 2 more issues of the kit with aftermarket decals, so can copy and remake whats missing but thats not the point, he didnt know that.
