Modellpularn Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) I bought a "new" car about a month ago. Yes, another Volvo. The old 240 wagon was let go. It was time to finally update. Mom sold her house, and I got a big bonus, so I could buy a better car. It's a 2000 V70, GLT, 170 hp, mileage less than 9000 if I calculated it right. In km it's 142300, which isn't very much for a ten year old car. Camshaft belt was recently replaced, and a new throttle body, new brake rotors and pads, Had passed inspection in late October, and the road tax was payed for one year. Looks like this: A friend had some aluminum wheels that I got dirt cheap; about 60 bucks for all four! They look really nice, some small nicks, but I'll fix that, and repaint them. Then the winter tires - studded, will go om them. Edited January 27, 2010 by Modellpularn
Junkman Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 How much does a year's road tax cost in Sweden for a car like this?
Martsmodels Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 This old girl was the love of my life for 13 years and a daily driver - she is a 74 V8 genuine factory car, not a conversion. More or less 100 percent reliable, except for the odd hiccup, with more than 355,000 miles on the clock! She started to cost more and more to get through the annual test so had to go to let someone else pick up the bills and was replaced by this which is now my daily driver .....late 88 Lux. It took me a year to find one in this condition and I decided on the 8 valve option for reliability although there really isn't that much in it in terms of performance - it's the handling that IMO makes these cars so nice - like driving a big go-kart.......I love it!! Cheers - Martin
Modellpularn Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 How much does a year's road tax cost in Sweden for a car like this? About 320 bucks. 2280 in swedish currency.
Jared Roach Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 You think your interior is dirty. You should see mine. lol. Oh the color of the seats just hide the dog hair!!
JamesW Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Sorry fellas, but there IS an S10 Tahoe. Remember, it's a TRIM PACKAGE, not a MODEL DESIGNATION. The S10 Tahoe is in no way related to the Chevy Tahoe SUV, other than both being built by Chevrolet. I don't know if the Tahoe trim package was available on an S10 Blazer or not since I've never owned one, but I did own a 93 S10 Tahoe pickup for two years. It had a Tahoe badge on the dash, I think on the tailgate, and the package was mentioned on the original window sticker that was in the glove box. X2. I believe the Tahoe package was 4X4. A friend of mine had one for 6 years (5 of which it sat in his yard not running). He sold it to another friend of mine for $50, fixed it and it's been running strong since, he's been using it as a plow truck.
JamesW Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 That's a nice Volvo. I've heard they're good cars.
Eric Stone Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 X2. I believe the Tahoe package was 4X4. Mine was 2WD, but I'm sure it was available on a 4x4 as well.
Longbox55 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 The Tahoe package was available on both the S10 Pickup and the Blazer, 2 and 4 wheel drive. It was basically the same as the Silverado package on the full size Truck, Blazer, and Suburban. There as also a Durango package that equated to the Scottsdale on the full size. I'm very familiar with them, my family has owned this one since it was new. It does have the Tahoe package, as well as the Off Road package.
Nick Winter Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 No such thing as an S-10 Tahoe. Tahoes are full size. There is the S-10 pickup and the S-10 Blazer. Check the fender badge on Jason Vandergriff's blue S-10 convertible. Actually, there was. it was a interior trim level. this is the missing fender tag on my grandpa's truck, still has the interior tag on the glove box though, for now it wears these, the truck you have just seen will be mine soon as I turn 16, till then I'll continue to use my old junker '92 Cheyenne W/T
Junkman Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 OK, you can't really call it driving, but this is what we are tinkering with for the past three years or so:
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Well, I just had the first major repair done on the Monte today. I had the tranny pan gasket and filter changed. $100 in parts and labour. It was leaking tranny fluid.

It was leaking tranny fluid. yikes! that's a lot of money to hand out for a cardboard gasket and a filter. i'd suggest getting a shop manual and some tools. you can do it yourself for a significantly smaller amount of money. at least i'd think so.

charlie8575 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 9000 if I calculated it right. In km it's 142300, which isn't very much for a ten year old car. I think you missed a 0 in the mileage, that should be 90,000. As a quick rule of thumb: 1 kilometre= 5/8 (0.625) U.S. Mile; it's within a few feet of absolutely correct. I'm not sure what the Imperial mile ratio is. Any Brits or Canucks know? Nice Volvo. In New England, 850 wagons and V70s are a fairly popular car. The 240s used to be everywhere, and you still see one once in awhile. I've toyed with getting one off and on if I can find one equipped the way I like at a price I can justify. Charlie Larkin

Check the fender badge on Jason Vandergriff's blue S-10 convertible. The fenders on that truck came from a 87 4x4 s-10 blazer. Tahoe was an option package on 82-93 s- series trucks. It usually feature a nicer interior with the addition of bucket seats and center console. Some extra exterior accessories and better suspension. Tahoe included the zq8 sport package from the factory. Zq8 had lawered front and rear springs stiffer front sway bar and on 2nd gen s-series a hop shock on the rear axle. Ive researched these trucks tooth and nail over the years. Ill have to dig up some pics of an older truck i dont have anymore that had s-10 tahoe fender badges on the right side fender. 4wd models did not have the zq8 package. Jason Vandergriff Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 ok, sucks you had to sell the blue one, the vert will look good when you get it finished. You should make a removeable hard top for it. Hopefully things work out for you and you can get that thing lookin good. If it were me I would go with the coilovers and the rear leafs because I think it would look cool as a driver/racer kinda thing, but no matter what it will look sweet man! Actually it didnt bother me to sell it. I was cramped in the cab of it. It had bucket seats console and a sls trim package. It was a body swap to a frame i had under another body but got tired of all the wiring issues from previous owners cutting the harness. Took 2 days and had it running on day one but didnt get all the front sheet metal back on it before i ran out of energry. Drfove the truck like it sits in the picture for 50,000 mile that year as a delivery driver. It was a v8 also at $3+ a gallon gas. Id come out cheaper with the coilovers and leafs for sure unless I still do all tubular control arms. Its liable to be a year or so before I tackle it heavy, main goal this year is drive time.

Junkman Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) I got it! I just picked it up today! Edited February 8, 2010 by Junkman
Adam deCoste Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) Ken, nice project cars I always wanted one of the early Supra's. I love the Celica, I had a '75 Coupe and a '83 liftback, would love to find either one of them, although I'd really liked the '75. Jon Cole Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) I got it! I just picked it up today! Christian! That era Caprice are hard to find even over here! They were also widely used as police cars, that image always come to mind when I see one. Fix that rust blister & dent! It will be worth it. Enjoy your new ride! Edited November 4, 2010 by Jon Cole
Mudpit602 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Heres what I drive to work, to the mud, and out to the desert.
Chuck Most Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 This is my old warhorse... '94 F-250 XLT 2WD with the 351 and AOD. Then I've got my gas miser, the "T-Racer" '98 Mercury Tracer LS And my beater truck for this winter (probably)... '89 Ranger 2WD, 2.3 5-speed. And these are just the ones that run...
