Dr. Cranky Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 After all is said and done, I think I'm going to call this one "HORNY HORNET'S 'PIMP DADDY'". LOL! I think the colors came out too loud, but I promised myself I would build this one start to finish, no matter what. One thing I recommend doing if you are going to use the visor is to cut off the pins and then glue the thing down at the end . . .the pins are a bit fragile and will break off after a few tries at mocking it up . . . so save yourself the frustration . . . Here's a nice smooth shot . . . I still have to put a coat of dullcoat on the paint so that it's not so delicate . . . Here's the last shot with a wheel and the front bumper just to get an idea of what it's going to look like . . .
RTK434 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I'm digging the paint job. Look forward to seeing the next update.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Thanks, the funny thing is that suddenly I have this funky paint job straight out of the 70s. Huggy Bear and The Rooster (are you old enough to get the reference? LOL!) would be proud.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 It also reminds me of this one! And would you believe I really thought I was doing something different? Geez, it's sad when the memory goes!
Diesel Gypsy Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Huggy Bear and The Rooster (are you old enough to get the reference? LOL!) would be proud. Unfortunately I am Vergil But I don't know about the other fellas
Dr. Cranky Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 HA! Thanks, Dave. Well, I keep pushing it . . . since I wasn't crazy about the yellow and red . . . well, now I really like it and here's why! The rub-on decals come from the Pine Car section of my LHS. Lots of new choices these days, very cool. I think this one is finally headed in the right direction!
Dr. Cranky Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 Done for the night. Tomorrow work begins on the chassis, interior, and engine . . . stay tuned in!
Chuck Most Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Hoping to get a bit done later on in the evening/early tommorow in the AM. Trunklid is cut free, now comes the hinging and trunk floor work.
Chuck Most Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Preliminary trunk work earlier this afternoon-
Chuck Most Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 And from about an hour or so ago... And a glimpse of some of the other 'AMC and its heritage brands' on my workbench at the moment... (The interloper in this pic is a '50 Nash Ambassador, btw.)
Dr. Cranky Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 Wow, you are on a roll, Chuck. Love the open trunk. Keep it going . . . more, more, more, more, more, more . . . Well, you get the point! MORE!
Foxer Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I'm going to have to get going on mine or there will be nothing left to try! I'm liking the red paint more with the large decals to fill it in.
Jantrix Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Rob, I thought about that, but I don't want to just sit back and watch! I want to build too! I certainly wasn't suggesting that! just that this is going to turn into a CBP thread anyway so..................................
Dr. Cranky Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 Yes, that's true. I think if Harry is listening he will move it. Harry if you are listening? Thanks, Rob! And, of course, this means you are going to build one too, right?
Chuck Most Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Something I noticed- it's near impossible to find a Hudson side-profile picture with the side trim off, so I can see where the mounting holes go. Oh, sure, you can find a fender for a '53 Hornet with the trim off, but everything else is the wrong year or model. The one 'frame off' resto album I found had the fenders, doors AND ROCKERS cut off, big help there!
Jantrix Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) Thanks, Rob! And, of course, this means you are going to build one too, right? We have some 1:1 car issues that need to get resolved, and the Tampa SW Street Rod Nats model contest that will eat up a bulk of my spending cash. So I figure this time next month maybe I'll be okay to order this and the Revell 48. I wll endevour to come up with something between now and then. If not, I will learn and enjoy all the excellent eye-candy that we'll be seeing here. Edited October 3, 2011 by Jantrix
Tom Setzer Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) Virgil, that is going to be a wild and slightly weird Hudson! I'm looking forward to seeing it finished! CHEERS! Tom Edited October 3, 2011 by Tom Setzer
Chuck Most Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Made my side trim disappear today- Trouble is, I accidentally shaved my face with the same razor I used to shave the Hudson. Feelin' a little woozy, so I'm calling it a night!
Joe Handley Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Lol, that reminds me, I need to shave tomorrow! Looks good so far Chuck!
Dominik Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 oh man, such a coooool kit - i'm just waiting and waiting and waiting... for the ordered kit . I like the hudson since the "cars"-movie and it is a "must have" as it came out this year. go on, buddies! want to see more makes time for waiting of mine shorter.
Chuck Most Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Dominik- not sure what exactly you have in mind for the kit, but judging from the rest of your models, it'll be very cool. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Thanks, Tom. Chuck, when I remove mine, I'm getting rid of the little hornet tip too on that trim. LOL!BTW, it's looking good, keep it going.
Janne Herajärvi Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Looking good guys. cant wait gettin my own hudson on progress.
Tom Setzer Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I have Ordered one of the Hudsons and when It gets here and My Wife Asks What Do you need with another Model, I'm Going To Tell Her it's Virgil's Fault! CHEERS! Tom
