Alyn Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Here's the front clip, a little rough, a lucky find none the less. you can see here where I had to weld in the front half of the drivers side fender Front clip set on the frame (not bolted down). We've had to push it around the shop quite a bit, so I found a milk crate to sit on.
Greg Myers Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Just when you think every possible angle has been tried. This is too much.
Dominik Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Oh man...that is awesome! The complete front is a eyecatcher for his own. Cool. Really cool. What Scale is it?
Alyn Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 The enthusiastic comments are great, thanks. Mike, MIG welders are so easy to use, they can make anyone look good. Here's a better shot of the weld seam Dominik, this car is based on the Revell 57 Chevy 150 Black Widow kit. It's 1:25th scale.
Chuck Most Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 This is really making me itch to try out that 'stripped Hudson unibody' project I've been kicking around! You could easily use something like this as the centerpiece to a really cool diorama.
mannyclub Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 this is so cool Alyn! Love all the scratchbuilt stuff you have done and, the story along with the car is awesome! Also what a great diorama car this would be, if you were taking pictures in a body shop dio setting WOW would that look wild! Manny
Alyn Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Alyn, that's just over the top! (pun intended) From the king of one word (or smiley) responses, I feel like I just got six replies. Thanks Dan, and everyone for the nice comments.
Bernard Kron Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I can't recall if I said this elsewhere, but I think this model shows off all the best of what you do: originality of concept and clarity of vision, a tremendous sense of realism and what it takes to achieve it, and the skills to execute such detail. What a totally cool model!
Agent G Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) Alyn, that's just over the top! (pun intended) Insert face palm smiley here...................... Way cool build Alyn. G Edited October 19, 2011 by Agent G
Randy D Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hi Alyn, Looks terrific, very creative!!!! Randy
John Teresi Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Alyn.......WOW!!!!.......such a fantastic creation........very cool.
Mark Box (421sd) Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 That is one fine build. The best trophy out there is putting something on the table no one else brought. You nailed it bud!
MrObsessive Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Now that's some serious scratchbuilding! The top frame looks mighty nice-------if you were to lay cloth over that, the profile would be 'bout dead accurate. The inner structure for the doors and rear doglegs are dead on as well.
Alyn Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Once again, I can't leave well enough alone. I called this one done some time ago, but sometimes the little things just keep itching at you. When I built this car, I had intended on scratch building the hydraulic mechanism for the top, but got in a rush to get it done and let that detail slip away. The other day I was in between model projects and decided to follow up on the details. I started by adding some studs and nuts on the intake manifold for the missing carb. While on the engine I cleaned up a few weathering details. Here's the result another angle Here's the hydraulics; a scratch-built ram and pump and some mods to the top frame to attach the ram. Unfortunately, none of my pics show the pump. It's covered up by the hydraulic hoses. I also added the brace across the bottom of the tulip panel.
