george 53 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I thought Delorean had died? Somebody ELSE owns his company now?
Modelmartin Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Seriously? At first I thought it was April 1. How do people with so little sense get their hands on enough money to be able to do this? I guess that is a question for the ages. I will wait fo the Mr. Fusion powered car myself.
sjordan2 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The Texas company mentioned in the article has been remanufacturing DeLoreans for a while, using original factory stock parts and donor cars. While they maintain that the cars are "new," they use the base car's original VIN.
george 53 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So they're REBUILT Deloreans, and not BRAND NEW never titled cars? Does this company call itself Delorean Motor Cars, as like the originals? Just seems interesting that someone can just buy the name and use it.
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I just wonder if it will top 88 mph.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I think I heard somewhere that there were about 50,000 of these left after DeLorean died and so this company in Texas is starting to put them out . . . and it make sense that they'd be electric, although don't expect to go too fast like Chuck M. said above.
Skydime Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I like how the article mentions that it isn't using Mr Fusion...YET. Kind of relates to the 115 year old electric car thread.
Junkman Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 What the De Lorean really needs, and always needed, is a big bloody V8.
Terror Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) He needed a bloody V8, but got a bloody nose sometimes.Dr.Rockso an Delorean partied all the time baby Ca Ca Yeah! Edited October 18, 2011 by Terror
Maindrian Pace Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 A big bloody V8 hanging behind the rear axle would make for some truly exciting, and by that I mean terrifying, handling. -MJS
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) A V8 would have helped, or building the body out of something other than stainless steel! Then again, a Flux Capacitor always seemed to help the De Lorean in the horsepower department. Edited October 18, 2011 by Chuck Most
Lownslow Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 i would be happy with the Acura K20 to keep the car balanced a v8 would just turn a delorean into a death trap
Rick Schmidt Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So they're REBUILT Deloreans, and not BRAND NEW never titled cars? Can even get them with power upgrades and such
Joe Handley Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yea, from what I've heard, they restore existing Deloreans, build new cars from N.O.S. parts, and they build hot rodded ones too. If they set up that ev system to it's full potential, it will be QUICK and be able to walk all over over what could be very quick cars in their own right!
Ryan S. Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hmmmm...early 21st century...we are about due for hover conversions.
Junkman Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 A big bloody V8 hanging behind the rear axle would make for some truly exciting, and by that I mean terrifying, handling. -MJS Not if it is a Rover V8, which weighs nearly 20 kg less than that lazy PRV V6 they opted for in the first place.
moparmagiclives Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 What the De Lorean really needs, and always needed, is a big bloody V8. Why a V8 at all ??? Why not a small bore V10 or 12 ? 5.0 with a 12k redline. Make it sound like it looks.
Junkman Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Why a V8 at all ??? Why not a small bore V10 or 12 ? 5.0 with a 12k redline. Make it sound like it looks. Why a De Lorean at all? It says in the article "but cost is projected to be in the $90-100K range". Makes me think. If I had that kind of money to spend on a car, and they'd show me a De Lorean next to a - let's say - Z06, I'd for some strange reason opt for the latter. Edited October 18, 2011 by Junkman
Jantrix Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hmm.......as I recall, the Delorean was a darn heavy car for it's size due to the stainless steel. Seems to me that would be counter productive in an electric car which is already gonna have extra weight due to the battery cells.
thatz4u Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 A very limited number of Deloreans had Chevrolet V-8's from the factory, then GM cut off the supply. These cars are in high demand, and when found for sale bring huge prices. The Deloreans are made in Texas and Florida. Google Delorean motor cars..
Ben Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How is the owner going to come up with 1.1 Gigawatts???????????
Chuck Most Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 As a kid, I always wanted a Delorean. Then, when I got older, I found out they didn't REALLY leave flaming tire tracks....
Harry P. Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 A $90,000 electric car based on 30-year old engineering and design is the answer to a question that nobody asked...
Junkman Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 A $90,000 electric car based on 30-year old engineering and design is the answer to a question that nobody asked... Which means it'll be a runaway sales success because every keeper upper with the Joneseser will buy one.
